Dear Members,
The summer season is in full swing, and there's so much happening here at the club! We’ve made remarkable progress in enhancing our facilities. The Crow’s Nest Courtroom AC has been replaced, the Clubhouse windows and trim have been beautifully repaired and painted, and the Pavilion AC is finally back in action after several years The entrance to the Squash and Tennis building has received a new facelift, and new landscaping adds a lovely touch to our grounds. At the pool, kids are having a blast with the new playset and our brand-new diving board and stand
We are thrilled to welcome three new members and one reinstatement for June, including two legacy members Legacy memberships are vital as they ensure generational continuity, and legacy candidates receive a 50% discount on their initiation fee Please keep spreading the word you, our members, are the best ambassadors for our club!
Exciting events are on the horizon! Our 4th of July Pool Party kicks off with a DJ, a giant inflatable slide, a cookout, and poolside games. Start the festivities early with our 4th of July Round Robin at 10 am On Tuesday, July 9th, join us for the Swim Team’s Pasta and PJ Party Don’t miss our Wimbledon Watch Party on Saturday, July 13th, at the Pavilion Wine enthusiasts, mark your calendars for our Summer Wine Festival on Friday, July 19th, featuring live music, appetizers, and over 30 wines from around the world. Friday night dinner specials at the Pavilion begin on July 12th come out for live music and delicious food We kindly ask members to make reservations when dining in the clubhouse This helps us provide the best service possible
Although July is already here, there’s plenty of summer left to enjoy all the amenities and events we have to offer I encourage you and your families to come out, enjoy, and make lasting memories at our wonderful club
Sincerely,
Sarah Russell General Manager srussell@louisvilleboatclub com
Dear Members,
Last month, Sarah and I sent out a mid-year check-in to share what has been accomplished so far this year Click here to check it out I would be remiss to not acknowledge the amazing work done by the board this year to make this progress possible Please join me in thanking each of the volunteer board members for their service and dedication to LBC
Over the next few newsletters, I want to highlight some of the work and the board members responsible for making it happen.
First, I want to recognize and thank Steve McCombs for leading R I P (Repair, Improvement, and Planning Committee) Steve is new to the board this year and has done an incredible job of addressing the many issues of maintaining LBC’s facilities and elevating the appearance of the clubhouse. Steve’s thorough approach to presenting the board with several options for each needed improvement is helping us to make investments that will benefit the club for years to come
Thank you to Kate Huff for leading the Swim Committee Kate stepped into this role years before her children were old enough to participate as Typhoons Like Steve, when the need to address our aging playset in the pool area arose, she researched several options so that the board was able to take immediate action and have a new playset installed the following week
I would also like to thank Henry Kelsey for returning to lead our Membership Committee Under Henry’s leadership, our membership continues to grow and we have had many families return to LBC
Sincerely,
Michelle Black White Louisville Boat Club President president@louisvilleboatclub com

ADULT REPORT:
Tyler Thomas traveled to play in the Charleston Invitational Tournament and played in the Century Doubles event with my good friend and fellow professional Ahmed Hamza from the PDC club in Atlanta
The heat on the courts in the club was making playing extremely tough, however Tyler used all his experience to play some fantastic doubles He was certainly turning back the years and had some great gets They made it all the way to the finals and had to play David Birmingham and Chris Haley which is a very good century team. The match was played in great spirits and it went the full distance, I am happy to report that Tyler and Ahmed won the final 3/2, 15-3 in the fifth! and were crowned champions
A special congratulations to Tyler, please congratulate him when you see him at the club

I am excited to share the first of many updates on our boating activities Where we are going has a lot to do with where we came from, so we should start there
In 1879, a group of prominent Louisville citizens sought to create a social and recreational hub centered around boating and water sports You probably know Louisville Boat Club is the oldest club in Kentucky You may not know we are a registered Yacht Club and one of the oldest Yacht Clubs in the United States There are only 32 listed Yacht Clubs that are older, and only 13 of those are more than 10 years older than the Louisville Boat Club
Our position on the Ohio River gives us wonderful views and is one of the best places to dock a boat However, we pay for our views each year when the river rises and Mother Nature taxes our facilities As our boating membership has shifted away from our docks, these annual taxes from the river have been paid, but only at the minimum
I would like you to consider the value to the club in revitalizing our docks The infrastructure, while tired in many ways, can be the premier facility on the Ohio River, anywhere on the Ohio River Our location and legacy are unique; not only in Louisville, but in the United States Imagine our docks with a sailing or rowing program for our families Imagine our docks as the best place in Louisville for an after work happy hour or after dinner sunset cocktail.
Your river committee will be working towards that vision We have a long way to go, but we will get there with your help
Our first step will be restocking and flying the Louisville Boat Club burgee (pronounced bur-jee) A burgee is a small, distinctive flag that proudly represents each Yacht Club Each burgee is unique, with its colors, design, and emblem reflecting the spirit and history of the Yacht Club it represents The Louisville Boat Club burgee is a symbol of our heritage, our camaraderie, and our shared passion for boating. Join us in celebrating our tradition and purchase one at the pro shop! We will be using the funds raised from this sale to purchase a large burgee to fly from the top of our mast on the docks
If you are not a boater, please take the time to come down to the docks this summer or fall. It is a wonderful place to watch the sunset, fireworks from Lou City or Louisville Slugger games, or a football tailgate in the fall Our pedestrian tunnel is unique, safe, and an impressive way to get to the dock If you are a boater, please bring your friends to the docks I’m excited about our docks and appreciate your support along the way
Wishing you fair winds and following seas, Martin Low River Captain
