Ok, that headline was a shameless imitation of a list post, but it got your attention and it’s true: We have three wonderful ways to add to your 2021 summer of fun. Here goes:

1. Take-out for…boating…dinner tonight...or...? Why bother cooking tonight? It’s hot, the kids are hard to please, and who wants to do dishes? Just call the Club and have them prepare something delicious from our Clubhouse menu. The new Blackhawk burger is incredible but so too are the old favorites. Better still, pack a picnic and go boating with a delicious, boxed meal onboard.

2. Bocce and beer with your besties. Are you going to let a summer go by without trying the new bocce courts? Of course not. So, order something to drink and head down to our new courts. You are a member of the only private club in the city with two brand new, beautiful bocce courts. (And they should be open any day now!)

3. Sunsets on the docks coming soon. Now, that’s the ticket! Hands down, this is a must-do for every member. Use the tunnel by the pool entrance and rediscover the magnificence of the Ohio River and the million-dollar sunsets we have from the privacy of our docks. Combinations for the locks, etc, are available by calling the clubhouse. (No unattended children.)

A Friendly Face Returns DAVID DRURY Friends and Members: Of which, I am happy to say there are many. I can humbly say that I have been overwhelmed by the welcome I have received this past week and that it is truly a pleasure to be back “where I belong” at the helm of this incredible Club.

I am sure that over the next few weeks I will get to see 98% of those that I already know and hope that those Members that I have not met come by the office or, stop me when I am “doing my rounds,” and say hello.

After almost 10 years LBC holds a special place in my heart and I hope that I can fulfill everything that is needed to take “your Club” to the next level.

Bocce Grand Opening Bocce at the Boat Club will become a reality with the grand opening of our newest feature on Saturday, July 10th. We’ll christen the socially-friendly sport with a very special evening of activity. We’ll begin the activity with “an introduction to Bocce” beginning at 4:30PM. presented by Ed Tonini, whose vision for the Bocce area will finally come to life.

The launch of the Bocce area will culminate the LBC Legacy Fund’s second successful project. This time a record 114 members contributed the necessary funding to make the exceptionally attractive area inviting and exciting. For the entire evening we will offer a full-service bar immediately adjacent to the Bocce area, but we will start out with a keg of beer – free of charge – to get things started. After the celebration keg is consumed, we will go to our standard membercharge system.

There will be a series of exhibition matches with time taken to explain rules, and strategies incorporated in the game. We will encourage everyone to participate. Bocce is a very simple game that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of physical or athletic ability. It is important to remember that Bocce is open to ALL classes of membership including Club House without any restrictions.

You can be having fun with your friends within minutes of throwing your first ball.

Graduation Party at LBC

We’ll have doubles only for the Grand Opening and will limit games to 9 points (instead of the normal club standard of 12 points). We will maintain a list of teams wanting to play and will get them on one of our courts in good order.

Beginning at 6:30 Chef Michael Crouch will serve a special Bocce-Themed (Italian) meal. This will be a reservation-only evening. You are encouraged to make your reservations early for the dining room and we expect this to be very popular.

Charge will be $25 ++. The menu will be a Prix Fixe with a choice of three Entrees, an Appetizer, and Dessert.

At 9:00 we will pause activity and have a ceremonial first lighting of our new Bocce lighting system. At 9:30 we will have the first lighting of our new fire pit. But prior to throwing the switch we have a special Italian Grappa toast to the 37 Gold level donors ($1,000 or more) to the Legacy Fund Bocce project.

Since it is the middle of summer and no one is likely to need or want the heat it will generate… we’ll extinguish it quickly and continue with Bocce under the lights. We hope Bocce will continue well into the evening with the bar opened until the last ball is tossed by the most hard-core Bocce enthusiasts.

Put July 10th on your calendar and encourage your member friends to join you in celebrating the opening of Bocce at the Boat Club!

Fitness Rules Whether you are an individual exerciser or enjoy working out with others, LBC Fitness has plenty of options for you. The Fitness facility is comprised of three rooms on the first floor of the Club with a wide variety of workout equipment. If you enjoy the extra motivation and social aspect of group workouts, LBC offers fitness classes for Members and their family members (18 & up).

FITNESS ROOM UTILIZATION (Self-Directed Workouts) The Fitness Room, and equipment utilization, is intended for use by LBC Members (Full & Clubhouse) and their immediate family (Full Members) Children under 18 must be accompanied by a Member at all times in the Fitness Room FITNESS TRAINING (Instructor-Led Classes for Adults Only) Top-notch fitness programming is provided for LBC Members (Full) and their family (Classes are for 18 & over only); currently we offer complimentary “10/10/10” (cardio/strength/core), “Yoga”, and “Spin” classes at LBC, per schedule on calendar Note that Members may contract directly with the LBC-approved trainers, if they would like private sessions at LBC for themselves or family members under 18

Owl Creek Reminder Calling all golfers!

Did you know that one of the many benefits of being a Louisville Boat Club member is that you are able to play golf at Owl Creek Country Club in Anchorage?
