Dear LBC Members,

As we step into the new year, I hope each of you had a joyous holiday season surrounded by loved ones. In my brief three weeks here, the warmth of your support and the dedication of our staff have been nothing short of exceptional. It's abundantly clear that the Louisville Boat Club holds a unique place in each of your hearts, and I am incredibly thrilled to embark on this journey alongside you.

Happy New Year! 2024 promises to be a year of new beginnings for LBC with our new General Manager, Sarah Russell, in place and our new Executive Chef, Heber Godsey IV, joining us this month.

From the very onset of my tenure, my primary focus has been securing an exceptional executive chef to redefine our culinary experiences. I'm delighted to announce that we've successfully found an immensely talented individual for this pivotal role. Allow me to welcome Heber Godsey IV. His expertise promises to elevate our dining experiences to unprecedented heights.

Furthermore, in my quest to fortify our team, I've been diligently seeking the right individual to lead our dining room. We should have this crucial position finalized this month. I firmly believe that having the right leadership in place will cultivate an environment of success, enhancing our offerings and enriching your membership experiences.

As we stand at the threshold of 2024, I am brimming with excitement for the possibilities it holds. Your steadfast support and enthusiasm during this period of transition have been invaluable. Together, let's forge ahead and chart a course for an exhilarating and fulfilling year ahead at the Louisville Boat Club.

Your LBC Board will be spending January doing a full evaluation into each area of the club and reviewing the membership survey results from last year. We plan to hold a series of Lunch & Listen events over the upcoming months to give Members a chance to share ideas with the board and club management. Our goal for these open forums is to create a transparent process on how improvements are prioritized while giving each member the chance to be heard.

How do you start each new year? For me, it is always a time of reflection and a chance to set new goals. My LBC-related goals for 2024 are to: Play more pickleball Reach out to my friends, family members, and business associates to help grow our membership Work with the board, membership, and staff to create a five-year strategic plan I am excited for the new year and what we will accomplish to make LBC the best place to be in Louisville.

MEET THE CHEF Chef Godsey has consistently demonstrated a commitment to culinary excellence and innovation. His journey spans across various roles, including Executive Chef positions at prominent establishments and an impressive tenure as a Private Chef, tailoring exquisite meals to meet individual dietary needs.

Notably, as an Executive Chef at the University of Louisville Golf Club, Chef Godsey showcased his culinary prowess by curating seasonal menus, overseeing a staff of 15, and executing flawless banquets and events for over 200 guests.

His dedication to sourcing sustainable, local produce reflects his commitment to quality and community support.

Chef Godsey's managerial acumen extends beyond the kitchen, as evidenced by his role as a Regional Manager, where he managed multiple units, conducted detailed financial reports, and played an integral part in new location development and franchise expansion.

His repertoire includes successful stints at various culinary establishments, where he orchestrated menu design, kitchen logistics, and staff training, always emphasizing excellence

SQUASH UPDATE New Director Another Successful Club Champs!

Take Time To Enjoy The Tiny Things!

What a way to finish the final month of 2023 with all the courts in full action. There was an electrifying energy in the building. Kay Zee was in control of his first club championships since his arrival in October. He and his wife Taylor are settling into their new life in Louisville, thank you all for making them feel very welcome.

As the first matches got underway for each division, each player was excited to be on the court and have their moment. We had some fantastic matches as the tournament proceeded. We saw many Zenith Academy playoffs, friendship tests as normal, and family takeovers. We had some delightful doubles matches with the cutest of cheerleaders during the trophy presentations.

Jay Hatcher and Fernando clinched the Men’s A draw doubles and P.A. and Ashby Howard finished as finalists. The Men’s B doubles was taken by Jacob & Ward McGill, with Jacob Huff and Patrick Fulton as finalists. They had the best cheerleaders in the building.

In our junior B event, we saw Trey Valdizan play phenomenal squash only to be stopped by an improving Evan Chisholm in the final. Kate Grissom played Ward McGill in the Junior A final and it was a great match to watch, both juniors put on a showcase of agility and movement. Kate managed to close the final out, she also won the ladies title as she faced off against Mariam Dodd.

The men’s B singles saw a great calm battle between Jacob Holzer and Will Preston, leaving the spectators in awe of how all the boys remained calm in such a nail-biting 5-set match. Will Preston gets the recognition for being the best and most voluntary ref for the weekend.

The main men’s A draw saw the battle of the great friends Wells Edinger and Fernando Valdizan, which went to a 5set match. Fernando had played a lot of squash on Saturday and unfortunately, he cramped up in the fifth, Wells managed to win the deciding game to be crowned the 2023 champion. The weekend was full of competition and it was great to see improvements that players have been working on during the year. Congratulations to all the players.

RACQUET REPORT New Director Happy New Year to all you racketeers, picklers, and paddlers!

Welcome to a brand-new year, which means we have plenty of excitement coming your way in 2024. We will have only a couple of short months before the warm weather arrives in March and we are looking to get back outside.

However, let’s make the most of our indoor season on the tennis, pickleball, and paddle courts.

Indoor tennis will be heating up in January as we will be back in the full swing of things the first week of January.

Get out there in your team practices and leagues to get ready for the upcoming USTA season. We will have the Junior programs starting back up during the second week of January (Week of January 8th). The schedule for the juniors will remain the same: Aces Clinic (7-9 years) Tuesdays, 4-5PM Superstars Clinic (10-12 years) Tuesdays, 5-6PM Little Legends Clinic (5-6 years) Thursdays, 4-4:30PM Please keep an eye out for new adult and junior tennis program information coming soon.

Also, don’t forget to pre-register for the Rafa Nadal Academy Camp, coming to the Louisville Boat Club in June. The RNA Camp will offer both junior and adult camps from June 10-14th. The junior camp will cost $975 for the week (MonFri) and will include both on-court and off-court instruction. The adult camp will cost $550 for the week (Mon-Thurs) and will also include on-court and off-court instruction. Remember, LBC Members will get a 10% discount on the camp if you pre-register. Pre-registration is commitment-free, and payment will be taken only when the camp registration has closed. Pickleball is in full force this winter as we continue our clinics and adult leagues. Our men’s and women’s pickleball leagues have been a huge hit this past fall and will continue into the winter months. Monday Men’s Pickleball League takes place from 7:30-9pm every Monday and Wednesday Women’s Pickleball League takes place every Wednesday from 6:30-8pm. If you are interested, please contact Kelly Marie Bohnert for details.

Our platform tennis is just getting started as the weather has turned frosty. Our Men’s Wednesday evening platform tennis league started just before the holiday break and will continue into January as we get ready for the Interclub competition later this month. Please keep an eye out for women’s and beginner leagues and clinic information coming out soon.
