Dear LBC Members,

Time truly flies when you're having fun, and it's hard to believe that six weeks have already passed since I assumed the role of General Manager. The enthusiasm and hard work from the Board, Committees, and myself have set the stage for an outstanding 2024 at the Louisville Boat Club.

The Board kicked off the new year by updating the Louisville Boat Club’s mission and vision statements as the first step towards building a five-year strategic plan. Our mission reflects our purpose and where we are today. Our vision defines where we want to be and provides a clear and inspiring future to align the board, staff, and members towards a common goal.

I am thrilled to share some exciting news regarding our team. In addition to welcoming our talented Executive Chef, Heber Godsey, we now have Julius Valentine joining us as the Dining Room Manager. Julius brings a wealth of expertise that promises to elevate our dining experiences to new heights.

As we dive into the year, we have some fantastic plans in store. Our first brunch is scheduled for Sunday, February 18th, and we're introducing .99-cent kid meals every Wednesday in February (excluding Valentine's Day). The lineup of events for 2024 is promising, and I am confident our membership will thoroughly enjoy them.

A quick reminder – the rescheduled Member Appreciation party is set for Friday, February 2nd, from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Join us for an evening filled with live music featuring Blake Dixon, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, and an excellent opportunity to meet our new and experienced staff members.

Membership growth is paramount to the Club’s future. We are excited to unveil our exclusive two-month trial membership program, tailored for individuals seriously considering becoming part of our Club. Open for applications until April 6th, this opportunity allows individuals to experience two months of unparalleled membership benefits by completing an application and submitting the first month's dues with a $1,500 deposit.

WELCOME OUR NEW DINING ROOM MANAGER Introducing JULIUS VALENTINE Dining Room Manager of Louisville Boat Club

MEET THE MANAGER We are delighted to introduce our new Dining Room Manager, Julius Valentine, whose extensive experience and passion for hospitality make him an invaluable addition to our team. Julius has served as the Food Service Director at Marine Lab Resources, the General Manager at a highly successful oceanfront establishment in the Florida Keys, and a hotel Food & Beverage Director. Before his career in hospitality, he earned an honorable discharge as a Sergeant of Infantry in the United States Marine Corps. Julius has completed the Court of Master Sommeliers program at the University of Texas and pursued studies at Kennesaw State University's Coles College of Business.

In his various roles, Julius has demonstrated expertise in inventory management, team leadership, community relations, strategic thinking, customer service, and profit and loss management. His leadership roles in the Marine Corps and various managerial positions have honed his ability to direct and inspire teams effectively. Julius is dedicated to building strong community ties, ensuring a seamless dining

SQUASH UPDATE New Director Junior Squash The school squash season is in full flow and we have seen a large number of new kids enjoying the game and loving playing for their school teams.

MS Match - Collegiate v KCD - Jan 12th This match saw a number of our members play a very competitive match. Trey Valdizan and Thomas Schriber helped KCD seal the victory over Collegiate - all the kids and parents had a blast!

Cincinnati Junior Gold Tournament - 19th-21st Jan We had 6 juniors from LBC competing in this gold tournament.

In the under 11 boys, Trey Valdizan finished 9/12 in his first gold tournament against very strong competitors, I must say a special well done to Trey who has just turned 10 and he now has a national ranking of 83!

In the under 17 girls, Kate Grissom finished 9/10 In the under 17 boys, Ward McGill finished 18th, Patrick Gustafsson and Jack Blythe finished 21-24 In the under 19 boys. Rayyan Arif finished 13-16 All of the kids are improving and climbing in the national rankings which is awesome to see.

HS School Tournament - St.Louis 26-28th We have a good number of our juniors playing for Collegiate boys and girls this coming weekend.

Adult Squash The Tuesday and Thursday doubles league continues as per the schedule. We also have open doubles on Wednesday evenings from 5:30pm - 7:30pm and Saturday mornings from 10am-noon. Open doubles allow members to come out and enjoy some fun matchups. The singles court #2 is also booked from 10-noon on Saturdays for open squash, so you can move in between doubles and singles.

Next month we have 2 very prestigious adult team events at the club. February 9th and 10th we are hosting the Hahn Cup which is team Louisville v Cincinnati v Indianapolis. There will be both singles and doubles matches so come down and support team Louisville and enjoy a drink court-side.

February 16th and 17th is Browne Cup which is team Louisville v St.Louis Racquet Club. This is an annual match featuring singles and doubles is always an extremely lively match. Come along and cheer on team Louisville to try and lift the Big Bear trophy!

RACQUET REPORT New Director Happy February to all you racketeers, picklers, and paddlers!

We had a chilly January, but that didn’t stop the legions of dedicated tennis, pickle, and platform players from getting out there and playing some serious competition. I am happy to announce that we have completed the installation of our new heaters in the tennis barn, so thankfully we can survive those cold winter days that may be popping up as we move through February.

On the tennis front, we are well into our winter season. We had a ton of participation this past January, with everyone shaking off the holiday hangover and getting ready for their USTA and River City matches. As we move along through February, look out for our latest edition of the Indoor Club Championships happening toward the end of the month. We are also looking forward to a Valentine's Day couples tennis mixer happening sometime in the middle of February. Keep an eye out for details coming very soon. We will also be looking to insert a few more adult and junior programs in the schedule this month, so please stay tuned to an updated programming schedule coming this month.

On the pickleball front, we had a lovely turnout for the New Year's Paddles Up tournament. Congratulations to all our competitors and thank you for the continued support of such a great event. Here are the results for all the events.

We will also continue to have our men’s and women’s ladder play on Mondays and Wednesdays (men’s on Mondays and women’s on Wednesdays). Our Saturday pickleball league will continue throughout the month of February.

Finally, in the platform tennis world, we have a hot February coming up. We will look forward to our home and away match versus Louisville Country Club on Wednesday, February, 21st. We will also look to play our member/member tournament on February 10th. Our Wednesday night men’s platform tennis leagues will also continue throughout February.

No matter what racquet or paddle you use, we hope to see you out on the court this February.
