Dear Members,
I am thrilled to share my excitement for the upcoming season at Louisville Boat Club The past few months have been truly exhilarating, and I am delighted to witness the progress we ' ve made together But let me assure you, there's still much more in store for us The stars seem to be aligning, and I am confident that this year will mark LBC's finest yet!
Our events and dining experiences have seen remarkable attendance, and our Spring and Summer calendars are bursting with excitement! Make sure to mark your calendars for our next Lunch With event on April 5th, featuring a special guest, Emily Dippie, Curator of Education at the Kentucky Derby Museum Additionally, don't miss out on the Spring Wine Festival on April 19th – it promises to be a fantastic time We're also finalizing details for a Thunder/Air Show event, so keep an eye on your email for updates. And be sure to save the date for our annual Boat Race Party on May 1st – secure your spot by making your reservations today!
Now, onto a less glamorous topic Some of you may not be aware, but our fiscal year runs from October through September At the end of the 2023 fiscal year, the board approved a gradual monthly dues increase to be implemented in two phases. The good news is that you ' ve already experienced the first phase, which began in November 2023. The second phase, involving an additional $15/month increase, will commence this month, April 2024 This decision was necessary due to current inflation, rising costs of goods, and increased labor expenses Please rest assured that this decision was not taken lightly, and both the board and I are committed to enhancing the value and experience of your membership at LBC
As summer approaches, many of you are making plans, and we ' re here to help. We offer a wide range of camps for both juniors and adults, including the Rafa Nadal Academy, Intensive Squash Training, and Multi-Sport camps Swim team signups are already underway, and our coaching team is exceptional For more information on any of these programs, please feel free to reach out to me directly at Srussell@louisvilleboatclub com
I am thrilled to announce that our membership numbers are on the rise, and we couldn't be happier. In March alone, we welcomed 6 new member families into our community The word is spreading, and I want to extend my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you You are the true ambassadors of our club, and together, let's keep this momentum going strong
Thank you for your continued support, and here's to an incredible year ahead!

Welcome to spring! The weather is finally turning warm, and we are nearly ready to start our outdoor season With that being said, let's slide right into what’s in store for LBC tennis and pickleball for the month of April
Clay courts update!!! Weather permitting, we are looking to open our clay courts this month It will be tough to give an exact date, but as of March 28th, the clay has been delivered and the crew is on the clay courts taking up the old clay surface and getting ready to put down a fresh layer of Har Tru. It will take a couple of weeks of watering and rolling the surface to get it ready for play Soon thereafter, the lines will be laid, and the nets will be put up We are hoping to have opening day sometime in the middle of April, again, weather permitting Please stay tuned for further updates as well as a firm opening day for outdoor tennis play Towards the end of the month, we will gradually look to transition most of the programming to the outdoor courts if the weather cooperates
Our outdoor pickleball courts will also be officially opening this month. We have already had some unofficial play starting up outdoors on pickleball courts, but as the weather becomes more consistent, we will be setting up our outdoor pickleball furniture, umbrellas, and water coolers We do have an amazing pickleball event taking place in April On April 21st, we will be hosting the 2nd Annual Outliving Cancer Pickleball Round Robin Tournament benefitting the Hope Scarves Foundation Proceeds of this pickleball round robin tournament will go to the Hope Scarves Foundation, whose mission is to support people facing cancer through scarves, stories, and research If you are interested in playing in this wonderful event or just interested in donating to the Hope Scarves Foundation, please contact Kelly Marie Bohnert or scan the QR code on one of the many flyers posted throughout the club
We hope to have a wonderful April and beginning of our outdoor season We look forward to updating you on all racquet and pickle events as well as seeing you on the tennis or pickleball courts this month.
All the best,
Travis CurranWhile March is known for its “madness”, we also had a little squash madness from the NSL draft to Louisville’s first Individual Closed School Tournaments
March 1st-3rd was the National Squash League draft and NSL match with Team World v Team USA held at the Montgomery Bell School in Nashville Electrifying match play and the crowd got to feast their eyes and emotions on some very talented professional squash players including Victor Crouin world number 11, and now part of the Derby City Colts Team which is awesome for Louisville
Off the back of Louisville hosting the inaugural event last May in Louisville against Chicago the NSL league has now grown to 6 cities and is proving to be revolutionizing the entertainment of playing, supporting, and watching this beautiful game we love of squash
We had a good number of our LBC juniors travel to Nashville to watch the match and gain some knowledge from the pros as they took part in the very first-ever NSL Next Junior event
The kids got the chance to play the exact same team format as the professional players and they all had a blast, with our very own Avi Patel from the Zenith Emerging Academy winning the raffle to become the coach for the pro-team that went ahead and won the exhibition match!
Patrick Gustafsson travelled to compete in the Woodberry Forest US junior silver, and he won the event winning 11-9, 11-6, 115 in the final, congratulations to Patrick on playing some very good solid squash
March 8th-9th saw the first ever Louisville lower school individual championships held at the Barker Brown Athletic Complex and Zenith Academy and LBC junior Trey Valdizan was crowned champion after a contagious 3-0 victory Very well done to Trey and all the lower school kids exemplified what the future of squash in Louisville is yet to bring We know we have future Olympians in our backyards who are to raise Louisville’s squash flag high in the near future
March 15th-16th was the Louisville High School individual championships also held at Barker Brown Athletic Complex The final of this tournament was contested between two Zenith Academy players and LBC junior players Patrick Gustafsson beat Ward McGill 3-0 to be crowned HS champion Very well done to both players The HS juniors that participated in the tournament showed great characters of floating like the butterflies in great retrievals and stinging match points like bees protecting their queen and honeycomb
March 22nd was the Louisville Middle School individual championships and this time the final was contested again between 2 Zenith academy players and LBC juniors Thomas Schriber played Trey Valdizan in the final and this was a great match It was Trey that came through to be crowned champion 3-1 Very well done to both juniors who played with great Louisville squash spirit and great sportsmanship. This was a great tournament to end the squash season for most of our school players.
Ward McGill and Rayyan Arif, both Zenith academy players and LBC juniors traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the US Squash National Silver Championships. Ward playing in the under 17 boys category finished in 25th place and Rayyan playing in the under 19 boys category finished 27/28th place Very well done to both boys
For those of you wanting some organized match play, please sign up for weekly Tuesday evening match play from 5:307:30pm. We also have new clinics for beginner ladies, coeds, and also juniors, again reach out to Kayzee directly to sign up.
The next event is the Kentucky State Open here at LBC on April 12-14 come down and watch some fantastic squash and doubles.
Thanks,
