Sunday 4th February: This is the first of 2018’s Pennard Acoustic Cafes. Music and spoken word performers put the date in your diary and come along at 2pm for a friendly open mic with home baking and hot drinks for sale, and free craft activities for all ages.

Come along on 4 February and see what it’s all about! Entry just £2 and performers get free drink. 2pm at West Pennard Village hall. Check out our facebook page for more details.

CHORUS OF DISAPPROVAL Monday 5th February: Rehearsals for Wells’ biggest community choir begins again every Monday night at Stoberry Park School, from 7.30-8.30pm. The philosophy is simple; there are no auditions, members don't have to be able to read music and everyone is welcome. If you are interested in joining please contact Andrew on 01749 673375. MENDIP RAMBLERS Monday 5th February: a 1 ½ hour circular walk of approximately three miles, starting from Wookey, Church Road, BA5 1JW at 1.30pm. The walk is led by Mary, telephone: 01749 342285 or 07951 467453 The Mendip Ramblers walk almost anywhere in Mendip and surrounding areas. Routes avoid roads as far as possible, using footpaths and bridleways. All walk leaders are volunteers, who have given their time to survey the walk as well as lead it on the day. Tuesday 6th February: The Arts Society Mendip talk for February is “From Bristol to the sea: Artists, the Avon Gorge and Bristol Harbour” by Francis Greenacre, Curator of Fine Art at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery from 1969 to 1997. The lecture will tell the story of a maritime city whose history has inspired outstanding artists such as JMW Turner, Thomas Girtin, JS Cotman, as well as excellent resident artists such as Francis Danby and the artists of the Bristol School. Other highlights will include Muller's sketches of the Bristol Riots 1831, Jackson's watercolours of Brunel's alternative proposals for the Suspension Bridge and Joseph Walter's paintings of Brunel's ships, the Great Western and the Great Britain. 11am at Bath and West Bar & Restaurant, B&W Show Ground, Shepton Mallet, BA4 6QN.
