A Comedy in Thick Fog by Tim Firth
Their March production is the hilarious comedy by Tim Firth, who also wrote Calendar Girls. Imagine a cross between “Lord of the Flies” and the sitcom “The Office”, with the cast doused in water and you will get an idea of what to expect! Four out of condition middle aged businessman sent off on a team-building exercise in the Lake District get shipwrecked on an island on Derwentwater. Bound in by fog, menaced by the wildlife and cut off from the world, this perfunctory middle-class exercise turns into a carnival of recrimination, French, cricket and sausages. What should have been a bonding process for Gordon, Angus, Roy and Neville turns into a muddy, bloody fight for survival. You can expect plenty of laughs and water, yet moments of pathos too. A theatrical experience not to be missed. Performance Dates 22nd - 24th March Venue

What an amazing end to 2017! I was fully expecting the last week to be exceptionally quiet, but it was quite the opposite. We listed 10 NEW instructions in the week leading up to Christmas, which is completely unheard of. It’s been a funny old year, certainly the strangest in the 17 years since I’ve been in the industry. We’ve had times when you would expect it to be really busy but it’s been really quiet, and vice versa. Nowadays, with buyers almost getting to the point of deciding on a house they would like to buy before even viewing it, it is paramount to make sure the agent you choose to market your house with has the best marketing tools. Here at Laurel & Wylde, we know that we do! We also believe the marketing of your home is so, so important and makes an enormous difference as to how much you actually achieve for it, and also how long it takes to sell. Whilst we don’t have inside information as to what percentage of the asking price other agents are achieving, we can tell you that we are currently (as of 29/12/2017) selling at 98.4% of asking price, which we believe is phenomenal! But one of the more Average Time Estate Agent On Market (Days) exciting things to know about us is that we are selling Laurel & Wylde 117 our houses a lot quicker than anyone else. Why not take a look at this chart and see what you think, and make sure, if you’re choosing an agent to sell your home, you’re picking one with the best marketing and one which sells their properties the quickest. Hopefully, this will avoid you being let down and tied into a very long contract with no way out! At Laurel & Wylde, we are so confident in what we do, we only offer a 0-week contract. This is to give everyone complete peace of mind… 6

KNITWITS KNITTING GROUP
Powers of Attorney – FAQs
Thursday 8 & 22 March: Bring your own knitting or knit items for Sierra Leone, Ghana, other parts of Africa, Romanian orphanages and a baby unit. URC Glastonbury. 2.30-4pm.
Why should I make a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)? Anyone can become mentally incapable of making their own decisions at any age. This can be through illness or accident. An LPA will enable your Attorney(s) that you have appointed to make decisions on your behalf surrounding your property and finances and/or your health and welfare. What types of LPAs are there?
BEGINNERS GUIDE TO BIRDWATCHING AT RSPB HAM WALL Saturday 10 March: Have you ever wondered which bird is which, and want to learn more? Can you tell your bittern from your blackbird, or your marsh harrier from a mallard? If not then this is the walk for you. Come along and learn how to identify some of the brilliant birds that call Ham Wall their home during the winter months. 10am-1pm. RSPB members £4, Non RSPB members £6, RSPB child members £2, Non RSPB child £3. Booking essential. Email: ham.wall@rspb.org.uk or Tel: 01458 860494
Yvonne’s Help at Home Kind & caring retired nurse with 30 years experience. Personal Care • Housework • Gardening
01458 831749 or 07855 012059 www.yvonneshelpathome.com
There is a Property and Financial Affairs LPA which allows your Attorney(s) to manage your money, tax and bills. Your Attorney(s) will also be able to use your money for the upkeep of your house and garden and to buy groceries etc. for you for your day to day living.
SRING AVALON FAERY FAYRE & BALL Saturday 10- Sunday 11 March: Glastonbury Town Hall is transformed for a weekend of fairy filled fun! The Faery Fayre is always full to the brim with talented local and international artists and crafts folk who come to the town to exhibit and sell their wares to fairy fans from across the country. Look out for Brian Wendy and son Toby Froud, of Labyrinth, David Bowie fame, who will be attending in a rare family appearance!
A Health and Welfare LPA allows your Attorney(s) to make decisions surrounding your medical treatment and where you live i.e. if you are to stay at home or move to a care home etc. They can also help with dressing, washing and eating. Your Attorney can also use your money to pay for things such as a haircut, or to pay for extra support with outings for you to visit friends or family for example. When does my LPA come into effect? Your Attorneys can use your LPA as soon as it has been registered. You do not have to lose your mental capacity for your Attorneys to be able to help make decisions on your behalf. You may simply reach a time where managing your affairs becomes too much for you. However, if you would rather your Attorneys make decisions on your behalf when you have lost your mental capacity you can specify this in your LPA when drawing it up. However, this can incur complications which is why we recommend discussing your LPA with one of our expert solicitors so you are aware of any complications that may arise.
In the evening the town hall is transformed for the magical Faery Ball with this spring’s theme, Knights and Princesses. Event organiser Karen Kay “We are really excited to welcome Belgium band, Prima Nocta to the evening Faery Ball. So expect lots of drumming and dancing!” Entry to the Fayre is FREE. 10.30am - 5pm on Saturday; 11am - 4.30pm on Sunday. The Faery Ball is 8pm-midnight, Saturday. Yoga is for Every-body!
Online Versus Introduction Agency One main thing that is very similar is that you are seeing a profile and photo of that person on a dating site or with a dating agency. However, the main difference is that we meet all our clients in their own homes whereas online you don’t know who you are dealing with as they don’t have the same checks as an agency will do. We like to get to know a client through a detailed interview which covers basic as well as more detailed information so we can then write a good profile about you. We check several forms of ID and also take some photos and you can pick the best one for your profile. With online some write very little or their profiles maybe misleading in some way. Our monthly charge are very similar to a paying online dating site but without the personal service of an Area Manager to help you through your membership. We work differently in that you get a monthly newsletter that you can pick a member you would like to have details of and go onto meet on a one to one. We have a varied social event calendar across the group and you can attend any of these events and we are open to suggestions. For more information please see our website. www.justintroductionsgroup.co.uk.

BAMBOO for you!
How to shrug off shoulder pain With Christmas seemingly in the distant past and signs of spring in the air, thoughts are perhaps turning to this year’s summer holiday. Apart from factor 50, a good pair of sunglasses should be at the top of everyone’s holiday list.
There are several causes of long-term shoulder pain. If you experience a limited range of movement, especially when raising your arm, and pain from pressure or when lying on the shoulder, then you may have a condition known as Calcifying Tendonitis.
A new range of sunglasses ‘with a difference’ has come to the town.
The cause is the formation of calcium deposits in the shoulder tendons. These grow from old scar tissues and gradually increase in size and number. This is not a common condition and is best diagnosed through x-ray or ultrasound. It tends to happen more to women - and it can be stubborn and worsen over time.
BAMBOOKA are sunglasses on a mission. Distributed by Eye Wear Africa, a non-profit company, these sunglasses are completely hand made from giant BAMBOO, a natural light weight and strong material all from a sustainable source. All lenses provide full UV protection. The frames can be glazed with prescription lenses or bought straight off the shelf. Eye Wear Africa is run entirely by volunteers who work alongside the charity PEPE (www.pepe.org.uk). PEPE supports a community and school in the Transkei region of South Africa. All profits from Bambooka sales are helping this community to become self reliant through supporting education and sustainable developments. Eyetech are the first opticians in this area to stock Bambooka and are pleased to support PEPE. So if you fancy a cool pair of sunglasses for that summer holiday and you’d like to support PEPE’s charitable work, pop into Eye-Tech in Street. These sunglasses will protect your eyes from the harmful effects of UV and also help to protect the lives and futures of those less fortunate than ourselves in South Africa. Eyetech also stock ECO frames from MODO. These are made from plant based and recycled materials. MODO support charitable work in Cameroon.
THE FIRST STOCKISTS OF BAMBOOKA SUNGLASSES IN THE AREA. CALL IN AND TRY THEM!
Calcifying Tendonitis used to be very difficult to treat but Shockwave therapy is a revolutionary success at breaking up calcium deposits, using repeated acoustic pulses. At Somerset Shockwave Therapy, you can access both Shockwave treatment and ultrasound for diagnosis and regular monitoring of progress. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WILDLIFE SURVEY
TALKING CAFÉ
From Monday 26 March – June: People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) is calling for an army of volunteers to record any sightings of wild mammals they see in their gardens or local green spaces, as part of its annual Living with Mammals survey.
Meet new people, make new friends and chat to a community health champion about activities, support groups and services in the community.
8pm – 1am. The Red Brick Building. FREE entry – although a suggested donation of £3. www. redbrickbuilding.co.uk
Many of Britain’s mammals, including hedgehogs, foxes, and bats, make use of household gardens, recreational areas, cemeteries, allotments and brownfield sites. Records from the survey have helped to build a picture of how towns and cities can support wildlife. This year, the survey will start on 26 March and runs through to the end of June. Volunteers need to spend some time observing a chosen site each week, for eight or more weeks of the survey period, looking out for wild mammals or the signs they leave behind and recording their sightings online or via paper forms. To take part in PTES’ 2018 Living with Mammals survey, register online via: www.ptes.org/lwm 16

MARCH 2018 – REUNION AND 6 NATIONS, WHAT’S NOT TO LIKE……… The 6 Nations Championship is now in full swing and we have seen great numbers at Tor RFC coming to watch the games on our large HD screen. There has been great banter with everyone thinking they know more than the various national coaches and pundits. All the remaining games will be shown at the club and there is always a drinks promotion and free sausage and chips served at half time. March always sees the club taking the opportunity to get together and holds a players’ reunion. This year’s event is on Saturday 10 March. This year is going to be special as our very our successful Women’s team of the mid 90s will be joining in the events of the day. The day will start with a lunch for around 100 former players and guests from Wiveliscombe RFC at 1.00pm. The Tor 1st XV will then play Wiveliscombe XV at 2.30pm, a match in which Tor will be seeking to avenge the defeat suffered earlier in the season at the away fixture. Whilst the day is focused on former players meeting and chatting over old times, the day is open to all as the 6 nations fixtures will be shown on the large screen. In the evening the crowds will be entertained by South West based Crow Dawn, a rock covers band who have wowed local audiences each time they play. There will be no charge for entry, come and join the party Tor 1st XV Fixtures March/April Tor 2nd XV Fixtures March/April 03/02 Weston Supermare II H 03/03 Stothert & Pitt A 10/03 Wiveliscombe H 24/03 Nailsea & Backwell A 07/04 St Bernadettes Old Boys H 14/04 Hornets II A 21/04 Gordano H

Is your dog protected against infectious disease? Here at Orchard Vets, we believe the correct vaccinations for your dog are a key part of a preventative health care strategy. Vaccination prevents infections that otherwise lead to serious illness or might even be fatal. But what vaccinations should your dog have, and when? We often hear that once dogs have had one vaccination, this does not need to be repeated – but is that true? Protection against the viral diseases distemper, infectious hepatitis and parvovirus is certainly long lasting, and re-vaccination is recommended every three years. The other vaccination that is advised for all dogs in the UK is against leptospirosis, a bacterial disease causing liver and kidney failure that may be fatal. Leptospirosis can also be passed to people, and thrives in the cool, damp British climate. For this reason, Leptospirosis vaccination is routinely recommended in the UK, though it may not be in some other countries. Protection from the leptospirosis vaccine unfortunately tends to wane after 12 months. If vaccination has not been carried out for over 15 months, a revaccination course, with 2 injections 4 weeks apart is advised to ensure protection. It can be easy for your pet's vaccination to slip your mind, but we don't want their protection against potentially fatal disease to slip too! During the month of March, you can have a complete vaccination course to bring your dog's vaccination back up to date for just the cost of an annual booster – a saving of nearly £25. Other vaccinations that may be recommended depend on your pet's lifestyle. For example, pets travelling abroad in Europe legally require a rabies vaccination in order to obtain a pet passport. Pets that are kennelled while owners are away, or attend daycare or classes, should also receive a kennel cough vaccination to protect them against respiratory infections. .
SOMERSET DAY NEEDS YOU Somerset Day is celebrated across the county on the date that King Alfred the Great beat The Danes, to rejoice in all the wonders that Somerset offers. Last May Street Parish Council held its first Somerset Day event. There was dancing, music and local crafts were on sale. King Alfred and his queen distributed hand waving flags and gave free cakes, donated by Burns the Bread, to children, to reflect the folk tale of Alfred and the cakes. This year there will also be a Children’s’ Village Show with local school children invited to enter (more details will follow) and Somerset craft makers are invited to exhibit. Planning is still in the early stages but if you are or know someone involved in any Somerset crafts or make something specific to Somerset then Street Parish Council would like to hear from you. Email assistant@street-pc.gov.uk or phone 01458 440588 in office hours. Let’s make Somerset Day on May 12th even better this year!
SECURING THE FUTURE PROJECT WINS NATIONAL LOTTERY SUPPORT St John’s, Glastonbury has received initial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for their ‘Securing the Future’ project. Made possible by National Lottery players, the project aims to celebrate the heritage of St John’s, a Grade 1 listed building, by providing a better welcome and interpretation of our long and significant history, and building closer relationships with different communities in Glastonbury, including disadvantaged groups and young people. The project includes making urgent repairs to the fabric which will bring areas of the church back into use following major safety concerns of a collapsed floor, and make the building easier and more efficient to run. HLF’s support of this project will ensure and secure the future of St John’s and it central place in the life of Glastonbury. Medieval buildings, especially churches, require continuing maintenance and repair, with significant restoration work every 150 or so years – now it is our turn. This award will allow us to do that Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, development funding of £32,400 has also been awarded to help St John’s progress their plans to apply for a full grant of £465,500 at a later date.

GATES Most readers will always think of Ramblers as walkers, as indeed they are, but the footpaths can only be walked on if they are “fit for purpose”. This is where the unseen work of the Mendip Ramblers working party is of such importance. Almost every week of the year the volunteers are out, each contributing about 170 hours to the work of repairing, replacing and improving access for all who walk on the public rights of way. This work is carried out on behalf of the local authorities, but it is free labour – so a lot of money is saved! In 2017 the Mendip group worked on numerous bridges and gates and kissing gates, and stiles and signposts. While this obviously helps the walkers it is also very good for the local communities – we hope we’re building bridges in every sense. If you want to get involved, visit www. mendipramblers.co.uk

HEMP CELEBRATIONS
MARIE CURIE URGENTLY NEEDS ‘DAFFODIL VOLUNTEERS’
This March 20th Spring Equinox 2018, marks the 21st Anniversary of the opening of ‘Hemp In Avalon’. It remains Britain’s longest established High Street Hemp retailer.
Terminal illness charity, Marie Curie is appealing for volunteers to give two hours of their time to hand out its iconic daffodil pins, in return for donations.
HIA is located at 1a Market Place, Glastonbury. The primary intention of ‘Hemp In Avalon’, is to raise awareness of the history and numerous beneficial uses of Hemp; as a source of food, fibre, fuel and medicine.
The charity is hoping to get more people than ever wearing the daffodil pin during its annual fundraiser; the Great Daffodil Appeal this March.
Hemp seeds, provide us with an optimal balance of key essential nutrients, in an easy to digest form. Hemp is widely recognized, to be one of the first cultivated crops. Hemp stems, yield strong durable fibres. These are used for cordage, paper, fabrics, building materials, insulation and bio-degradable plastics. The Royal Naval Ships that established the British ‘Hempire’, were rigged with Hemp sails and Hemp ropes. Henry VIII, Founder of the Royal Navy, declared Hemp cultivation, mandatory for landowners. Hemp ‘bio-mass’ is compressed into solid fuel blocks. It may also be converted into clean burning, and highly efficient ‘bio-ethanol’. Henry Ford, built and fuelled his first cars from Hemp. Hemp flowers, yield resins that contain ‘phytocannabinoids’. These compounds, nourish and activate our ‘Endo Cannabinoid System’. This regulatory pathway, was identified in 1992. Its purpose is to assist our bodies towards homeostasis, balanced health and wellbeing. The ancient Chinese PenTs-ao Medical Text, referred to Hemp as a ‘Superior Healing Herb’. Dr Reynolds, Queen Victoria’s Personal Physician, stated in the Lancet that Hemp is ‘one of the most valuable medicines we possess.’ Dr Courtney MD, recently verified Hemp as a ‘dietary essential’. For further information of the history and numerous beneficial uses of Hemp, please visit Hemp In Avalon. You are invited to the ‘Hemptation Special’ in Glastonbury Town Hall on Wednesday March 21st from 7pm.

A treat for your feet! Dane Crafts, a Street manufacturer of custom slippers and moccasins – product review by LocalReach editor Andrea Cowan. If my feet had a mind of their own, I’m pretty sure they’d be sighing with contentment right now. I recently visited Dane Crafts, a family business manufacturing leather and sheepskin slippers and moccasins at their factory and showroom in Havyatt, just outside Glastonbury. They have been creating footwear for the last 30 years. I love a factory tour so was delighted to find that the majority of the processes are carried out onsite, except for the hand stitching which is done by a team of seamstresses from the comfort of their own home. Sizes range from UK 3 up to 16, and there is even a custom-made service available for anyone with awkward feet! There are a huge variety of colours and designs, all at unbelievably competitive prices. The stockroom in Havyatt has plenty of styles but the full range is available online. I took a pair of Shelley slippers home. They are a moccasin style with a hard sole (soft soles, or traditional ‘carpet slippers’, are also available in other styles) and are crafted from English suede lined with cosy West Country sheepskin. The wool is warm but surprisingly breathable, so I can see myself wearing these long into the spring. In fact, don’t expect to see me and out & about any time soon – I’m far too busy at home road-testing my slippers! What our clients say about us...
We put our house on the market with Nick. No sooner had he visited, taken details and lots of photos, the house was live on lots of websites, hitting the first viewed property on many as a ‘featured property’! This paid d ividends as the interest in our property was high. Live online by 10am with photos, viewings booked for that evening and an offer close to the asking price by 10am the following morning. Brilliant! the office kept us updated constantly and always answered our calls Andy Rossitter Laurel & Wylde are a wonderful Estate Agent. Leanne has been so friendly, patient and professional in helping my husband and I buy our first home. We’d definitely recommend Emily Wallis
