By Daniela Giampapa-Bendayán In early October this songwriter and singer released her new production, an EP (extended play). It is composed of 6 tracks that represent the best of Manu and highlight her musical growth in terms of sound and lyrics.

In the first single, “Te Quiero Ver” she sings along the new Colombian urban-reggaeton singer, Feid.

This new production is called “Después de las 12” and it is literally me embodied in a record. For the first time I had the freedom, thanks to my label, In-Tu Línea, and enough knowledge to executively produce my project. Each song represents a different side of me; there is one song that is a more electronic, a piano and voice ballad, there are more urban and more dance songs. There is a bit of everything, and I think that with this new proposal the public will understand better who I am and which way I am going.

How did you realize that music was your passion?

Well, I've sung, danced and acted all my life. But it wasn't until I studied high school theater in Miami that I realized that acting didn't like me so much as music did. I went to a summer camp at Berklee College of Music and I loved it, and there, I studied 2 years at the university. I decided to leave and return to Miami to start focusing on my professional career, and it all started there.

How do you like to enjoy life when you are not on stage?

Chilling with my family and friends. I like the beach and good food.

Did you know that Manu ...?

• If she had not been a singer, she would have been a psychologist, in fact, she studied a semester at the university and loved it.

C U É N TA N O S U N P O C O D E E S T E M AT E R I A L M U S I C A L Esta nueva producción se llama “Después de las 12” y es literalmente yo plasmada en un disco. Por primera vez tuve la libertad, gracias a mi disquera, In-Tu Línea, y el conocimiento suficiente para producir ejecutivamente mi proyecto. Cada canción representa un lado diferente de mí; hay una canción más electrónica, una balada a piano y voz, hay canciones más urbanas y más movidas para bailar. Hay un poco de todo y pienso que con esta nueva propuesta el público va a entender mejor quién soy y por cuál camino voy. ¿Tienes planes para colaborar con otros artistas, además de Feid? ¡Definitivamente! Me encantaría hacer un par de remixes de varias canciones del EP. Ya tengo pensadas algunas colaboraciones; ahora solo me falta enviarles la canción.

Una con una chica sería increíble y ya tengo algo en mente así que ¡estén pendientes! ¿Cómo te diste cuenta de que la música era tu pasión?

Bueno, yo he cantado, bailado y actuado toda mi vida Pero no fue hasta que estudie teatro en bachillerato en Miami que me di cuenta de que la actuación no me movía el piso como lo hacía la música. Fui a un campamento de verano en Berklee College of Music y me encantó y ahí estudié 2 años en la universidad y decidí salirme y devolverme a Miami para empezar a enfocarme en mi carrera profesional y ahí comenzó todo.

Safety in our schools SEGURIDAD EN NUESTRAS ESCUELAS Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to the safety and security of our students. Nonetheless an air of uncertainty remains as we continue to see violence and an increase in threats in schools throughout the country. There is no end-all solution to this issue.

However, we must all do what we can to make certain that our students feel safe in our schools.

Parents need to understand that they are our partners. Not only in reporting any suspicious behavior, but also in talking to their children about these threats and clearly communicating the potentially severe consequences associated with making threats even if it’s a joke.

Students should know that it is important for them report any threat or suspicious activity. Reporting threats gives the District, the schools, and law enforcement, the best chance of preventing a tragedy.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools is committed to promoting responsible decision-making amongst our students, especially when it comes to safety. Between all of us our community, we can all work together to ensure safety in our schools.

Las escuelas públicas del condado Miami-Dade están comprometidas en proteger la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes. No obstante, permanece un aire de incertidumbre mientras continuamos viendo violencia y un aumento de las amenazas a nuestras escuelas en todo el país. I like to eat fat-free Greek yogurt with fruit from time to time. Many people ask me why don’t I drink cow’s milk but I do eat Greek yogurt?

First, you should know that for years I have not consume cow’s milk, because dairy products are acidifying foods and also because it became a habit for me to consume vegetable milk. In the case of yogurt I recommend coconut yogurt, almonds or skimmed Greek without sugar rich in probiotics. They are excellent for vegan people but it is very important to choose them without sugar. Remember that you do not have to be afraid of this type of healthy fat unlike that from a cow which is loaded with saturated fat.

But does yogurt contain lactose?

I’m not going to say no, yes it does. However, it is as if it did not have it because Greek yogurt goes through a process where they remove all the fat, eliminating sugar and a large percentage of lactose. So I want to clarify that it has a little left but people who are lactose intolerant can eat it. It also has 13 to 20 grams of protein per cup while cow’s milk has only 3.5 grams.

Greek yogurt, certainly a super food high in vitamin B12 and potassium, is so good for you that it can substitute red meat which is super difficult to digest, helping your stomach and digestive system.

A mí me gusta comer de vez en cuando yogurt griego sin grasa con un poco de fruta en las meriendas. Muchos me preguntan ¿por qué no tomo leche de vaca pero sí yogurt griego?

Primero, debes saber que desde hace años yo no tomo leche de vaca; los lácteos son alimentos acidificantes y simplemente porque volví un hábito consumir leche vegetal pero para el caso del yogurt el que yo recomiendo es yogurt de coco, almendras o griego descremado sin azúcar rico en probióticos. Son excelentes para las personas veganas pero es muy importante escogerlos sin azúcar. Recuerda que no le tienes que tener miedo a este tipo de grasa saludable a diferencia de los de vaca que están cargados de grasas saturadas.

Pero, ¿tiene lactosa? Para que les voy a decir que no, si sí. Sin embargo, es como si no tuviera porque el yogurt griego pasa por un proceso donde quitan toda la grasa, eliminando el azúcar y gran porcentaje de lactosa y quiero aclarar que le queda un poco, pero pueden comerlo personas que son intolerantes a la lactosa, además tiene de 13 a 20 gr. de proteína por taza mientras que la leche de vaca tiene 3,5 gr. solamente.

El yogurt griego, sin duda es un súper alimento alto en vitamina B12 y potasio, es tan bueno que puedes sustituir la carne roja que es súper difícil de digerir, ayudando a tu barriga y sistema digestivo.

Pumpkin Pie PASTEL DE CALABAZA

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE FILLING

• 1 package (8 ounces) softened cream cheese • 2 cups canned pumpkin, pureed • 1 cup of sugar • ¼ teaspoon salt • 1 egg plus 2 egg yolks, lightly beaten • ½ bar of melted butter • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon • 1 piece of prefabricated cake dough (you can buy it at the supermarket) • Whipped cream, to cover

1. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese with a hand mixer. Add the pumpkin and beat until combined.

Then add sugar and salt.

PREPARATION 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees oF. 2. Bake if necessary, the prefabricated cake dough following the instructions on the packaging.

2. Add the eggs mixed with the yolks, half and half, and the melted butter, and beat until they are integrated.

3. Add vanilla, cinnamon and beat until blended.

4. Pour the filling into the warm prepared cake dough and bake for 50 minutes, or until the center is ready.

5. Place the cake on a rack and cool to room temperature.

Cut into slices and cover each piece with a generous amount of whipped cream.
