What a delight it is when an interview turns into a pleasant, relaxed, and interesting conversation, full of laughter and anecdotes! This is Frank Quintero, funny, calm, and with an immense repertoire of stories. The lyrics of his songs along with his voice are love dressed in music parading down a catwalk of romantic melodies.

For me it was a real pleasure and honor to talked with him and to show you a little the intimate side of Juan Francisco, who for 52 years of artistic life has been known as Frank Quintero.

DORAL GREEN The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) has designated the City of Doral a Silver ReCertification of the Florida Green Local Government after we successfully met the sustainability standards established in the FGBC Green Local Government Certification program. Local Governments across Florida have found this program to not only protect the environment but also improve operational efficiencies and reduce the cost of government for taxpayers.

EXPANDED TROLLEY SERVICE Mayor and Council approved the addition of two additional trolley vehicles during midday-weekday hours for Route 1. This brings Doral Trolley Fleet to 16 vehicles in service. The expansion provides service to six (6) schools: Doral Academy Middle/High School, John I Smith K-8 Center, Eugenia B Thomas K-8 Center, Dr. Rolando Espinosa K-8 Center, Dr. Toni Bilbao Elementary, and Ronald Reagan High School.

In January I had the honor of representing the City of Doral at the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) 88th Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C. The USCM is the official non-partisan organization of cities with a population of 30,000 or larger that meets annually, allowing Mayors to discuss priorities that contribute to the overall health of America’s cities.

En enero tuve el honor de representar a la ciudad de Doral en la 88ª Reunión de Invierno de la Conferencia de Alcaldes de Estados Unidos (USCM) en Washington, D.C. La USCM es la organización oficial no partidista de ciudades con una población de 30.000 o más que se reúne anualmente, permitiendo a los alcaldes discutir las prioridades que contribuyen a la salud general de las ciudades de Estados Unidos.

This conference is an invaluable opportunity to connect with national leaders and learn best practices that to bring back and implement in our communities for the betterment of our residents’ lives. As one of the best places to live in the country, I was very proud to attend and highlight the great work we’re doing in Doral. Our City was even one of the 20 featured in the “2020 Mayors Economic Mobility Report”.

Esta conferencia es una oportunidad invaluable para conectarse con los líderes nacionales y aprender las mejores prácticas para restablecer e implementar en nuestras comunidades para el mejoramiento de la vida de nuestros residentes. Some of the sessions I attended while there tackled vital topics such as: small business and entrepreneurship best practices, managing new transportation technologies and services, and lessons learned for preventing, preparing and responding to mass shootings. The conference culminated with a visit to the White House for “A Discussion on Transforming America’s Communities”.

Mientras pueda soñar (known as Amantes de luna llena) Why? I got so involved in the story of that soap opera's song that I felt part of that story.

Every time I sing I get very excited.

Which song do you think touches your audience the most?

Undoubtedly, Canción para ti.

What is that song’s story?

In the 70's I had a girlfriend in Caracas. We had a 6 year relationship. At that time they offered me a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, I proposed that we go together but she didn't want to. We ended the relationship and I went to Boston feeling very heartbroken and alone. Soon I remembered that I never said goodbye to her. Then I decided to write a song,

play it on guitar, and send it in a cassette with a letter of apology. She responded by saying that if I really wanted to give her a gift, I had to record that song. At that time, the record “De noche y con poca luz” was almost ready to go to the market, so I called Venezuela and asked them to stop production because I wanted to add another song. I tried doing the song many times and I didn't like how it turned out.

In the meantime, the record was on hold waiting for that song. One day at a friend's house, I played the intro with a guitar while watching television and liked it. I asked a Japanese classmate to play the cello. We recorded the song and sent it to Venezuela to add it to the album. I did it to keep my word with my ex-girlfriend. Six months later the label called me to tell me that I had to return to Venezuela because I had hit song that had become an anthem.

En este momento está de gira musical por Chile, Argentina, República Dominicana y Estados Unidos. Próximamente va a lanzar un disco con versiones actualizadas de sus propias canciones.

propuse que nos fuéramos juntos pero ella no quiso. Terminamos la relación y me fui a Boston muy despechado y solo.

Al poco tiempo me acordé de que nunca me despedí de ella. Entonces decidí escribirle una canción, tocarla en guitarra, y enviársela en un casete junto a una carta de disculpas. Ella me respondió diciendo que si de verdad yo quería hacerle un regalo, tenía que grabar esa canción. En ese momento el disco De noche y con poca luz ya estaba casi listo para salir al mercado, así que llamé a Venezuela y pedí que pararan la producción porque quería agregar otra canción. La ensayé muchas veces y no me gustaba como quedaba; mientras tanto el disco estaba parado esperando por esa canción. Un día en casa de un amigo, toqué el intro con una guitarra mientras veía televisión y me gustó. Le pedí a un compañero de clases japonés que tocara el cello. Grabamos la canción y la enviamos a Venezuela para añadirla al disco. Lo hice para cumplir con mi ex novia. A los seis meses la disquera me llamó diciéndome que tenía que regresar a Venezuela porque había pegado esa canción hasta convertirse en un himno.

Frank Quintero, además, da clases de canto, composición, piano y guitarra en su estudio Polaris Education, en Doral. ¿De todas tus canciones cuál tiene un sentimiento especial para ti?

Mientras pueda soñar (conocida como Amantes de luna llena) ¿Por qué?

Me involucré tanto en la historia de la canción de esa telenovela que me sentía parte de esa historia. Cada vez que la canto me emociono mucho. ¿Cuál canción consideras que le llega más a tu público?

Indudablemente, Canción para ti. ¿Cuál es la historia de esa canción?

En los 70’ tenía una novia en Caracas.

Llevábamos 6 años de relación. En ese momento me ofrecieron una beca para Berklee College of Music en Boston, le 15 15

After 52 years of artistic career, what advice do you give to those who want to compose, play, sing or be an artist?

Después de 52 años de carrera artística, ¿qué consejo le das a quien quiere componer, tocar, cantar o ser artista?

This is not a speed race, it is of permanence and endurance.

Artists go out of style, songs don't; they remain in time. Honesty and discipline are very important. You have to be grateful to your audience, take pictures with them, listen to their stories, sign autographs, give yourself to them just as they have given themselves to you, after all you are where you are thanks to them. My advice is passion and dedication. Also, remember that the ego is a double-edged sword.

Being a successful person does not make you different from others.

Sometimes you have to take off the artist's uniform and enjoy the other things that life gives you, your home, your partner, your children, your pets, etc., so you learn to value your artistic career in order to gain respect and affection from the people.

The years teach you lessons. I have always liked symmetry, for example, I have been quite a perfectionist but over the years I have learned to be a little more flexible and tolerant.

They understand how to give pleasure and support.

Love is then unconditional, without conditions. Nothing is necessary to express your love, you just have to manifest it. When a relationship is based on trust, a couple can express themselves in the most wonderful ways in the world and if these fundamentals are solid, they can support each other to get ahead in difficult times.

Este sentimiento es cuando las dos personas anteponen sus necesidades y la pasión fluye. Therefore, when dealing with love it’s recommended to proceed in the same way you would when learning any other art.
