Editor’s Letter Daniela Giampapa -Bendayán Editor in Chief This issue has plenty of magic, precisely because I interviewed the great Venezuelan magician Andre Garre. He told me about the “Asombro” show he is presenting every Friday at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. It is a show that will keep you stunned from beginning to end. Andre's tricks and effects will leave you with your mouth open.

CENSO 2020 The City of Doral is hosting a series of public workshops as the community prepares for the 2020 Census! This month all households in the country will receive an invitation in the mail to count as part of the 2020 Census. The U.S Census Bureau conducts this census every 10 years to determine the number of people living in the United States and determine where federal funding goes for important projects like education, roads, fire stations and more. Did you know that each person that answers the Census represents $1,445 in federal funding? That’s an estimated $29 billion in federal funding for the State of Florida! Making sure that everyone in our community counts is easy, safe and confidential – it takes less than 10 minutes to respond!

ANDRE GARRE Let yourself be amazed! ¡DÉJATE ASOMBRAR! By Daniela Bendayan-Giampapa Those who know magic admire the work of this great magician... and those who do not do as well. It is not necessary to be a scholar in the matter to sit down, relax in an armchair, and be amazed by his skills. This Venezuelan illusionist is the perfect example that dreams do come true. Some time ago, when he passed by the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, it seemed impossible to appear there, it was an unattainable place. Today, every Friday starting at 9:00 p.m., he presents his show “Asombro” (Astonishment in Spanish) there. This did not happen by magic but was the result of his hard work and dedication. “Even now when I say I have a show at the Biltmore, I don't believe it.”
ASOMBRO Sit in your armchair and let yourself be surprised. You will live a unique experience, full of emotions of all kinds and MARCH 2020
magical effects. “Asombro” is not the typical catalog of tricks many magicians present. Andre goes further. In “Asombro” all the games are tied by a same theme that solves an unknown question presented at the beginning. It is an intimate show for 70 people and suitable for over 15 years of age.

No se necesita ser un erudito en la materia para sentarse, relajarse en la butaca y dejarse asombrar por sus destrezas. Este ilusionista venezolano es el ejemplo perfecto de que los sueños sí se hacen realidad. Hace tiempo, cuando él pasaba cerca del Hotel Biltmore en Coral Gables, le parecía imposible presentarse ahí, era un lugar inalcanzable.

The effects Andre Garre uses are created by him. The fact that another magician has not done them before implies a high risk. Who does not want the magician to be wrong and for his trick to be exposed in the midst of so many people? Everybody! It is a possibility, certainly. However, to reduce statistics, Andre prepares, rehearses and studies each movement. Therein lies the truly amazing thing about the show.
For lovers of classical magic, there are classic effects. For fans of the modern, Andre uses Instagram during the show. He even does collective magic. He interacts with the public, from the beginning to the end. Although it can be very risky to involve the attendees, he assumes the challenge because it is worth it. During the show you can enjoy an escapism number in honor of the great Houdini, also another with lounge cards, as well as the classic ropes, and mentalism, all this under an atmosphere of suggestion. Behind “Asombro” there is a whole psychological approach that people do not know about but accept, understand, and enjoy. The magic happens in the minds of the spectators. The expectator experiences a chemical, mental and physical process.

He doesn't talk about politics either.

Es un proceso químico, mental y físico que vive la persona.

This talented Venezuelan actress arrived in the United States with a very clear objective: to stand out with her acting and win an Oscar. As soon as she arrived, Telemundo hired her to perform in Betty in NY. What character did you bring to life to in Betty in NY? Deisy, a hairdresser in NY neighborhoods. That character was amazing. I had the honor of being directed by the great directors Gustavo Loza, Fez Noriega and Luis Manzo.
What other projects have you developed in the US? I did two plays on Paseo Wynwood. One was “Magicus, el Bosque Reciclado” where I worked for children on the issue of recycling and the other was “Faltan 5 pa’ las 12” on the immigration of Venezuelans. I also made a short film, under the direction of Mexican Adriana Barraza.
What awards have you obtained throughout your career? I was recognized as Best Actress in a Venezuelan festival for the film “Bloques”. In 2018 in Miami I won the Mara de Oro Award for Best New Actress of the Year. I also have several programs and series in which I worked, such as “Somos Tu y Yo” and “Atomico” of Vladimir Pérez won many awards.

Protagonicé dos obras de teatro en Paseo Wynwood. Una fue Magicus, el bosque reciclado donde trabajé para niños el tema del reciclaje y la otra fue Faltan 5 pa’ las 12 sobre la inmigración de los venezolanos. También hice un cortometraje, bajo la dirección de la mexicana Adriana Barraza.

También he varios programas y series en los que trabajaba, como Somos Tú y Yo y Atómico de Vladimir Pérez ganaron muchos premios.
¿Qué estás haciendo actualmente? Me voy a ir a Los Ángeles a prepararme más como actriz. También estoy terminado mi primer libro infantil sobre la naturaleza y los gatos y estoy finalizando de escribir mi primera obra de teatro.
What are you currently doing? I'm going to Los Angeles to prepare myself further as an actress. I'm also finishing my first children's book about nature and cats and I'm finishing writing my first play.

Seed butters are great because they have good high quality fats, they are tasty and full nutrients. Each brings different properties to your body like fiber, calcium, potassium and more. Make sure that peanut, almond, nuts, or whichever seed you prefer it’s the only ingredient and a little salt, because most of the time they put extra sweeteners, hydrogenated oil, corn syrup (fructose) and many reduced fat versions that also have more sugar.

It contains: 5g of good fats, 1.6g of fiber (it is one of the butters that has more fiber), 3.1g of carbohydrates, 3.35g of protein, 0.71g of sugar, 120 mg of potassium and 56mg of calcium per tablespoon. Super good by tablespoon. It also has many minerals such as zinc, biotin and magnesium and is rich in monounsaturated fats, which have been linked to better blood sugar levels.
The cashew nut has high levels of zeaxanthin and lutein (powerful antioxidants), in addition to anacardic acid that helps control blood sugar and convert it into energy to help you lose weight. Being rich in monounsaturated fats it helps reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) levels and is an excellent antioxidant to fight free radicals.

Desechar las semillas. 3. Combinar el jarabe enfriado, el jugo de limón y el vodka de frambuesa con el jugo de frambuesa. 4. Dividir la mezcla de frambuesa entre 2 vasos. BATTERED SHRIMP WITH BEER DOUGH Camarones rebozados con masa de cerveza
INGREDIENTS • 1 cup of beer • 1 cup all-purpose flour • ½ teaspoon salt • 20 large shrimp (size 16/15), peeled and deveined PREPARATION 1. Preheat a deep fryer or a deep pot filled halfway with oil at 350 degrees. 2. In a bowl, combine beer, flour and salt, and let stand at room temperature for at least 2 hours. 3. Dry the shrimp with paper towels, pass them through a little wheat flour and then dip them in the dough and fry them for about 2 to 3 minutes. 4. Drain the shrimp on paper towels. 5. Serve with cabbage salad and a tartar sauce. INGREDIENTES 1 taza de cerveza 1 taza de harina para todo uso ½ cucharadita de sal 20 camarones grandes (medida 16/15), pelados y desvenados PREPARACIÓN 1. Precalentar una freidora o una olla profunda llena hasta la mitad de aceite a 350 grados. 2. En un tazón, combinar la cerveza, la harina y la sal, y dejar reposar a temperatura ambiente durante, por lo menos, 2 horas. 3. Secar los camarones con toallas de papel, pasarlos por un poco de harina de trigo y luego sumergirlos en la masa y freírlos durante aproximadamente 2 a 3 minutos. 4. Escurrir los camarones sobre toallas de papel. 5.Servir con ensalada de repollo y una salsa estilo tártara.
