Meet Steve Russo, Publisher Executive Director | steve@like-media.com
Winter has a way of slowing us down. The noise fades, the air sharpens, and we start to notice the things that matter most: faith, family, and the people who make this community feel like home. It’s a season that reminds us to look up, to look around, and to give thanks for the light that still shines in the world.
For over a decade, our mission has been to make a positive impact in the places where we live and work. We’ve achieved this by sharing the stories of local nonprofits and the individuals and organizations quietly doing the hard work of helping others. Those stories have reminded us just how generous this region really is. And that same generosity was evident again through The Finest, where your votes did more than just choose winners; they celebrated the people and businesses that make this community shine.
This winter, we’re building on that momentum with a new initiative to recognize local businesses that give back—owners and teams who pour their time, talent, and heart into helping others. Too often their generosity goes unseen. We want to change that.
If you know of a company making a real difference through donations, volunteerism, community events, or everyday acts of kindness, we’d love to hear from you. Nominate them by emailing editorial@like-media.com and help us shine a light on the finest kind of leadership, the kind that serves.
And while this season is known for giving, it also reminds us of the greatest gift ever given: the gift of hope, born in a manger over two thousand years ago. That truth still speaks quietly through every act of kindness, every open door, and every effort to serve.
From all of us here, thank you for being part of our community, for believing in the good, and for helping us keep it shining.
Have a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Coeur d’Alene Living Local’s Finest 2025 highlights the people and businesses who continue to shape the spirit of our city. This year’s winners reflect connection, craftsmanship, and the steady commitment that strengthens Coeur d’Alene. Inside, our feature on Symmetry Sauna Studio explores how they blend beauty, craftsmanship, and wellness to create a space centered on health and balance for the local community.

One More Time is an organization that creates meaningful experiences for adults facing lifelimiting conditions, giving them the chance to enjoy something special one more time. Inspired by personal loss, founder Tiffinay Vargas established the nonprofit after losing her father in 2017 and recognizing how powerful shared moments can be during difficult times. Each experience is tailored to the individual, whether it’s a major bucket-list adventure or a simple joy that brings back memories.
Over the years, One More Time has arranged everything from trips to Disney, Legoland, NASCAR, and the Grand Canyon Skywalk to intimate outings like fishing trips, sidecar rides, or grabbing a milkshake while driving through town. These moments often lift the spirits of both recipients and their families, creating joy that spreads far beyond the experience itself. Supported by volunteers, community partners, donations, and sponsorships, the organization continues to make meaningful wishes possible for those who need them most.

Like Media, producer of Coeur d'Alene Living Local, recognizes non-profits’ invaluable contributions. We amplify their voices, share inspiring stories, and engage with organizations to support their missions and inspire action.

Thank you, Coeur d’Alene, for showing up once again to celebrate what makes this place more than just a zip code, more than just a region. The 2025 Finest Awards aren’t just about who’s “best.” They’re about belonging, about the local dreamers, doers, and difference-makers who remind us that community is built, not bought.
Each vote cast this year was more than recognition; it was a rally cry for locals. It said we believe in small business, we believe in connection, and we believe that when we invest in each other, everyone wins. The community members and businesses you recognized help shape the pulse of Coeur d’Alene, creating jobs, giving back, and adding color and character to every corner of our community.
This is what local excellence looks like in 2025, not perfection, but passion. Not noise, but authenticity. The Coeur d’Alene Living Local’s Finest isn’t about chasing trends; it’s about standing together in what lasts: trust, craftsmanship, and care for the people right next door.
Thank you for being part of something real. For showing that even in a fast-moving world, the heart of Coeur d’Alene still beats strongest close to home. Here’s to another year of celebrating our people, our places, and the stories that make our community shine.

Joe Petersen
Joe Petersen has spent his life in customer service, starting at 14 behind the counter at Subway as a proud “sandwich artist”—his first taste of what it meant to serve people with care. Those early experiences taught him that every interaction matters and that good service means treating people with care and respect. He later co-owned a craft cocktail bar in Seattle called Percy’s, where his love for creating spaces of connection and comfort deepened. Today at Base Camp Wine & Co., he continues that mission with a little more wine and a lot more community.
“When someone walks through our doors, I want them to feel like they’ve come home,” Joe says. “You never know what someone is carrying from their day or their life, so I try to create a space that feels like sunshine and comfort.” His own story shaped that philosophy. As a child, after his family lost everything in a fire, he experienced the kindness of Toys for Tots volunteers. Their compassion and dignity left a lasting mark—one that still guides how he serves others today.
Being named Coeur d’Alene Living Local’s 2025 Finest Customer Service Person of the Year is an honor that brings him back to what matters most: serving others with care and gratitude.

Newby-ginnings of North Idaho, Inc.
Newby-ginnings of North Idaho, Inc., honored as Coeur d’Alene Living Local’s 2025 Finest Organization/Non-Profit of the Year, was founded in 2013 by Theresa Hart after the loss of her son, SPC Nicholas Newby, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2011. What began as a mission to honor Nick’s sacrifice and assist his battle buddies has grown into a nonprofit dedicated to supporting Veterans, Active-Duty Service Members, and Gold Star Families. Through donated goods, community connection, and compassion, Newby-ginnings provides a safe, judgment-free place where more than 7,200 individuals who have served can find help, hope, and belonging—without red tape or requirements.
Operating entirely through community donations, fundraisers, and volunteers, every item given represents gratitude and respect for service and sacrifice. “We don’t just say the words— we show that gratitude by doing our best to improve the quality of their lives and maybe ease a bit of their stress,” shares Hart. “A Veteran once told me, ‘You were worth it,’” she recalls. “I will never forget that moment. And I will do my best, every single day, to continue to be worthy of his service—of every Veteran’s service— and of my son’s ultimate sacrifice.”

Vanessa Moos
HARBOR LOCAL’S
Growing up in Cleveland, Vanessa Moos was shaped by faith, service, and community. Her parents modeled hard work and volunteerism, setting an example that continues to guide her today. After 12 years of moving across the country with her Coeur d’Alene native husband while in his Marine Corps service, she and her family made Coeur d’Alene home, where she leads with purpose and connection.
Grounded in faith and the Rotary Four-Way Test of truth, fairness, goodwill, and benefit to all, Vanessa strives to lead with integrity. She credits her success to resilience and the mentors who helped her grow through moments of self-doubt. “When people see someone rise after a challenge, they’re reminded of their own ability to do the same,” she says. Being named Coeur d’Alene Living Local’s 2025 Finest Person of the Year is, as Vanessa shares, “the honor of a lifetime.” She is deeply grateful to the women who welcomed and supported her, adding, “Leaders lift leaders, and I owe everything to the mentors who lifted me with grace and belief.”
Opening the Family Support Center at Canopy Village stands among her proudest accomplishments. Built with a $2.1 million grant she wrote, the 5,000-square-foot facility strengthens families by providing early support that helps prevent youth incarceration and create long-term stability. A former collegiate rower, Vanessa carries forward the lessons of teamwork and endurance, believing true leadership means listening, staying steady, and pulling together toward shared goals.

Quin Shuck, Student Pastor
One Place Church
Recognized as Coeur d’Alene Living Local’s 2025 Finest Teacher/ Youth Leader of the Year, Quin Shuck serves as Student Pastor at One Place Church, where his calling to lead young people began from a personal place. After his father left during high school, Quin was surrounded by mentors who kept him in church, taught him about Jesus, and showed him what it looks like to live with faith and integrity. “I remember thinking to myself that if I could do for someone what my mentors did for me, I would be truly blessed,” he shares.
Grateful and humbled by this recognition, Quin admits he never expected to receive an award for doing what he loves. His approach to ministry is shaped by One Place Church’s six family values, especially “we embrace imperfect.” “We are not perfect, and we are all in process. We welcome and invite all who would come, no matter their story, questions, doubts, or struggles, because we have them too,” he says.
For Quin, the greatest reward comes from watching students grow in faith over time and witnessing prayers answered as they return to Jesus. He credits his wife, Mya, Pastor Pace Hartfield, and a team of leaders who pursue Jesus and have a heart to disciple the generation in their relationship with Him.

by LIKE MEDIA TEAM
At Symmetry Sauna Studio in Coeur d’Alene, balance isn’t just an idea—it’s a way of life. Founded by Joe Cruz, Sam Rogers, Steve Simar, and Heather Gallegos, the company began as HeatPraxia and has evolved into a unified brand representing both exquisite design and holistic wellness. The rebrand reflects the growth of their national custom sauna designer company, Symmetry Sauna, and the continued success of their local sauna studio, a place where intention and artistry come together under one name.
To the team, “symmetry” signifies harmony in creation, beauty balanced with purpose. Every element, whether a handcrafted sauna or a wellness session, is designed to restore equilibrium to both body and mind.

Before it became a nationally recognized custom sauna designer, Symmetry Sauna was born inside the studio. Each design emerged from firsthand experience, built to serve, to heal, and to last. That perspective has become the foundation of their craftsmanship today.
Unlike most manufacturers, Symmetry Sauna operates with a deep understanding of what makes a sauna truly exceptional for daily use. Their saunas are built with the end user in mind: durable, visually stunning, and made to perform. “Every project begins with beauty and balance, because a beautiful sauna gets used more often, and regular use is where the benefits unfold,” says Heather.
Symmetry’s client list spans the nation, from homeowners creating wellness spaces to commercial clients including gyms, spas, professional sports teams, and other sauna studio owners. Each collaboration is guided by the same principle—to create something extraordinary that stands the test of time.
The team is also introducing new products that open exciting possibilities for design, including the Taive modular bench system, available exclusively through Symmetry, and new heat-tolerant lighting options that elevate the sauna experience.
While the custom build division takes the brand nationwide, Symmetry Sauna Studio brings that same philosophy home to Coeur d’Alene. Visitors are greeted with warmth, both from the staff and the soothing atmosphere of the space. First-time guests receive a guided tour and introduction to the studio’s practice and amenities.

Inside this contrast therapy studio, guests experience traditional sauna sessions, cold plunges, halo therapy, and red light therapy, all designed to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and support mental clarity. The studio also offers breathwork, Pilates, yoga, and strength classes, along with community workshops led by local wellness professionals.
Regular sauna use, four to seven times per week, can cut the risk of all-cause mortality in half. It promotes active recovery, boosts cardiovascular health, and protects lean muscle mass. Beyond the physical, clients often notice improved mood, better sleep, and stronger stress resilience. “All of our practices are holistic and work on the whole person,” shares Heather. “It’s not just about physical recovery—it’s about creating balance in the body and calm in the mind.” Every detail within the studio mirrors the same care and precision seen in their custom saunas. Materials, lighting, and layout have all been refined to create a setting that feels as restorative as it looks.
Coeur d’Alene was a natural home for Symmetry Sauna Studio. It’s where the owners live, work, and find inspiration. When their first location flooded in early 2024, the outpouring of community support was overwhelming. Many customers stood by them, waiting patiently until their grand reopening 14 months later.
The team now looks forward to continued growth, including two new Symmetry Sauna Outdoor studios in Woodinville and Vantage, Washington. Whether designing world-class saunas or offering rejuvenating sessions in their Coeur d’Alene studio, their mission remains the same: to bring balance, beauty, and wellness to every person they serve.
Experience wellness redefined at Symmetry Sauna Studio, where craftsmanship and care meet in perfect symmetry. Symmetry Sauna Studio

CREATING MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES FOR THOSE WHO NEED THEM MOST
by LIKE MEDIA TEAM

life is full of moments we wish we could relive, or experience just one more time. For adults facing life-limiting conditions, One More Time, Inc. brings those moments to life, tailoring experiences that leave lasting memories for participants and their families. From grand adventures to simple joys, each experience is designed to reflect the unique wishes of the individual.
The organization was born from personal loss. After unexpectedly losing her father in 2017, founder Tiffinay Vargas realized the power of shared experiences in the face of life’s fragility. “Those losses developed the idea of One More Time and being able to have these experiences with others, since I no

longer can have them with my father,” she says. That spark of empathy became the foundation of an organization devoted to bringing joy and connection to those who need it most.
Over the years, One More Time has orchestrated a wide spectrum of experiences. Some are bucket-list adventures, like trips to Disney, Legoland, NASCAR, and the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Others are intimate and whimsical, such as fishing outings, sidecar motorcycle rides, or simply enjoying a milkshake while driving around town to see how things have changed. No matter the scale, the goal is the same: to create moments of happiness that ripple outward to families, caregivers, and volunteers.

Every experience relies on collaboration, and every act of generosity amplifies the joy created.

The impact of these experiences goes far beyond the participants themselves. Many adults facing health challenges feel hopeless, and their families often struggle to know how to help. Watching a recipient’s joy spread to everyone around them is one of the most powerful aspects of the organization. “When you help with a One More Time, you can’t wait to do it again,” the team says, reflecting the contagious joy that these experiences create.
Community involvement is critical to keeping One More Time’s mission alive. Volunteers assist with fundraising, planning, and executing each unique experience, and local partnerships make adventures possible. Whether someone has a boat, golf cart, or helicopter, their contribution can turn a wish into reality. Donations and sponsorships help sustain the organization and fund events like the upcoming Mr. North Idaho Fundraiser, which will also support hiring a Fundraising Director to expand the reach of One More Time.
The organization’s strength lies in its connections between participants, families, volunteers, and the broader community. Every experience relies on collaboration, and every act of generosity amplifies the joy created. By combining thoughtful planning, heartfelt empathy, and the support of the community, One More Time ensures that every individual it serves has the chance to experience something meaningful…one more time.

It’s one of the most recognized images in human history: a star shining above a manger in Bethlehem. It’s been painted, sung about, and printed on countless Christmas cards. But behind the nativity scenes and pageants lies one of the most remarkable truths in all of Scripture: the Creator of the heavens used His own creation to announce His arrival.
Matthew tells us about a group of wise men from the east, learned men who studied both the stars and the sacred writings of old. They likely came from the region once ruled by Babylon, where generations earlier the prophet Daniel had served as chief among the Magi. Through him, echoes of Israel’s hope had been preserved, whispers of a coming King, a promised Messiah, and even the prophecy that “a star shall come out of Jacob.”
So when a light appeared that was unlike any they had ever seen, they recognized its meaning. This wasn’t a coincidence

or a cosmic curiosity; it was fulfillment. What Daniel had foretold, the heavens were now declaring. And they followed.
That journey would take them hundreds of miles, across deserts and danger, into the heart of Judea. They had no map, only a star that moved, stopped, and stood over the very place where the Christ child lay. The detail is easy to miss but profound in meaning: the same God who spoke light into existence in Genesis was now using that light to declare His own birth. The heavens were literally pointing to earth.
John begins his gospel not with shepherds or angels but with eternity:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

That’s the heart of Christmas, the Incarnation. God didn’t send an idea, a philosophy, or a symbolic hope. He came Himself. The infinite became an infant. The Maker of the stars entered the world beneath them.
Think about that. The hands that flung galaxies into orbit were now small enough to fit inside Mary’s palm. The same voice that thundered, “Let there be light,” was now the soft cry of a newborn. The very Author of life was breathing our air.
This is the mystery of Christmas—not sentimental nostalgia, but the unthinkable humility of God. The Word became flesh, and the heavens couldn’t stay silent about it.
And tucked into Matthew’s account is another name: Immanuel, meaning “God with us.” It’s not just poetic. It’s personal. The child in the manger wasn’t a symbol of hope; He was hope. He was God, here, among His people.
The star was more than a miracle of astronomy; it was a declaration. Psalm 19 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God.” That night in Bethlehem, they did precisely that, not abstractly, but personally. Some scholars believe the Star of Bethlehem may have been a rare planetary alignment, a supernova, or something beyond the realm of science altogether. But the point isn’t how it happened – it’s why.
The Magi saw that light and came to worship. They brought gold for a King, frankincense for a God, and myrrh for the One who would one day die. Every gift spoke of His purpose. They arrived as seekers of truth and left as worshipers of the Truth Himself. And in that humble house, these men who had searched the skies finally saw Immanuel—God with us!
It’s easy to read the Christmas story and view it as ancient history, but the pattern remains unchanged. God still reveals Himself to those who seek Him. He still draws outsiders in. Those Magi represent every one of us who has ever looked for meaning, who

“THE TRUE LIGHT THAT GIVES LIGHT TO EVERYONE WAS COMING INTO THE World.”

has ever followed a faint light through the dark, hoping it leads to something real. They remind us that God’s invitation extends beyond borders, beyond religion, beyond what we think we know.
And when we finally come face to face with Jesus, like those travelers, we realize the light we were following wasn’t far away after all. It was leading us home to Immanuel.
John wrote, “The true Light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.” That’s the miracle of the Incarnation, not that a star appeared in the sky, but that the Light of the world stepped into human form.
The same Jesus who spoke galaxies into existence entered human time and space to rescue it. He didn’t just come to be admired. He came to redeem. He didn’t just shine from afar. He stepped into the darkness so He could bring us out of it. That’s why the Christmas story still matters, because every generation needs that light again. Every heart needs to know Immanuel, the God who is not far away but always near.
Two thousand years later, we still hang stars on trees and rooftops. Maybe we don’t think much about what they mean. But the truth remains: that star was never about astronomy. It was about an invitation.
The Magi saw it and came. The shepherds heard it and ran. Mary held it in her arms. And today, that same light still calls to hearts that are searching. Christmas isn’t just about looking back to a manger. It’s about realizing that the same God who once used a star to guide strangers still uses light to guide us – sometimes in ways we don’t expect, sometimes right where we are. Because the God who once pointed heaven to earth still points hearts to Himself.
And His name is still Immanuel. God with us!

Blending movement, mindfulness, and community for holistic health in Coeur d’Alene
by LIKE MEDIA TEAM
At CDA Power Yoga, the rhythm of breath and movement comes together to create something far more than a workout. It’s an experience of connection, balance, and holistic health. What began in 2018 as a veteran-founded studio dedicated to Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga has, under Ashley Severinsen’s ownership, evolved into a welcoming community where every student, from beginner to seasoned practitioner, can find their own version of power and peace.
When Ashley took over in early 2025, after five years of teaching at the studio, her goal was to build on the studio’s strong Power Yoga foundation while expanding what it could mean for everyone who walked through the door. “The Power Yoga is still here,” Ashley shares, “and now it’s joined by a balance of Slow Flow, 26&2, Sculpt, Restore, and Yin classes too.” This diversity reflects her core belief that Yoga supports each person wherever they are in life, sometimes calling for an energetic, sweat-filled practice, and other times, for a quiet hour of stillness and breath.
Each class at CDA Power Yoga offers its own kind of transformation. Power Flow brings intensity and movement in a 90-degree infraredheated room, where students connect strength and ease with each breath. Slow Flow encourages deep stretching and longer holds, while Power + Restore bridges energy and rest in a single class. The 26&2 series, 26 postures taught in the same sequence each time, builds strength, balance, and confidence through consistency.
Ashley’s favorite part of teaching is helping people discover that Yoga is not about flexibility or perfection; it’s about awareness. “Yoga has carried me through times when I needed to build momentum in my life, and it has also taught me to slow down when everything felt like it was moving too fast,” she says. “No matter where you are, Yoga meets you there.”
The studio’s offerings go beyond traditional classes, adding depth through monthly practices like Breathwork and sound baths.

Breathwork sessions encourage intentional breathing patterns that can release emotional tension and cultivate clarity.
In addition to classes and workshops, CDA Power Yoga offers retail products that support a lifetime of practice. The studio shop carries Manduka mats, LMNT hydration, Lululemon and Spiritual Gangster activewear, and Satya jewelry—items carefully selected to complement wellness both on and off the mat.
Community is at the center of everything the team at CDA Power Yoga does. Their extraordinary group of teachers, each with unique backgrounds and styles, shares a passion for creating real, in-person experiences that remind us how connected we all are. That connection extends far beyond the studio walls. CDA Power Yoga supports local causes by raising funds and donating supplies to Canopy Village during the holidays and offering discounts to veterans, first responders, and teachers. Through its work-exchange program, the studio ensures that anyone in the community can participate.
Their mission is to help the helpers—to give people one hour of focused movement and breath that restores their energy to serve others with care and pride. From first responders and teachers to parents, healthcare workers, baristas, and everyone in between, each person deserves the chance to refill their cup. After all, it takes a village to create a community as special as Coeur d’Alene.
As winter sets in, CDA Power Yoga continues to welcome new students through its Intro Special: 30 days for $30, available through the end of 2025. The studio also hosts free community classes and special events like Breathwork, sound bath sessions, and a transformative 200-hour teacher training program beginning in January.
At CDA Power Yoga, students don’t just find balance on their mats. They discover a path toward presence, intention, and a deeper sense of self that extends far beyond the studio.

The holidays are meant to be joyful, not stressful. Whether you’re hosting a big family gathering or a cozy night with close friends, try these simple tips to make December entertaining feel festive, not frantic:
1 2 3
Set the Mood Early Light seasonal candles (think pine, clove, or cranberry), turn on a mellow playlist, and dim overhead lights in favor of string lights or lamps. A warm atmosphere goes a long way.
Prep & Plate Ahead
Choose appetizers and desserts that can be made the night before. Arrange serving platters ahead of time so you can enjoy the gathering instead of being stuck in the kitchen.
Plan a Memory Moment
Whether it’s a DIY ornament station for kids or a quick round of holiday-themed trivia for adults, include a small activity that brings everyone together.

Let’s be honest—New Year’s resolutions come with a lot of pressure. The word itself feels heavy, like something you have to fix. But what if January wasn’t about overhauling your life, and instead about infusing it with more of what lights you up?
Enter the January Joy List—a refreshing twist on the typical resolution. Instead of promising to eat less, do more, or finally tackle that inbox, try asking: What brings me joy? What makes me feel alive, curious, or calm?
Your list can be as simple or quirky as you want. Think:
• Rewatching your favorite childhood movie
• Taking a slow walk without your phone
• Fresh sheets and a good book
• Calling a friend just to laugh
• Visiting a local bakery for the “just because” pastry
This isn’t about productivity—it’s about presence. And by filling January with little sparks of joy, you may find more motivation and clarity than any resolution could ever offer.
Here’s the beauty: your list doesn’t have to be long, and it definitely doesn’t have to be impressive. It just has to be you. Post it on your fridge. Scribble it in a notebook. Or keep it private and sacred.
The New Year doesn’t have to be a sprint toward self-improvement. Sometimes, the best way to begin again is by remembering what makes life sweet in the first place.
This January, skip the pressure. Start with joy.

THE MOUTH: A Mirror to Your Health
YOUR HEALTH HAS A TELL
by LIKE MEDIA TEAM

It may come as a surprise, but your mouth can reveal far more than cavities and plaque buildup. Dentists are often the first health professionals to spot signs of systemic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, and even cancer. During routine checkups, your dentist may notice the early warning signs of more significant issues.
One of the most common conditions dentists help identify is diabetes. Symptoms such as persistent dry mouth, gum inflammation, slow-healing sores, or frequent infections can signal blood sugar irregularities. Since these signs appear in the mouth before a patient may experience other symptoms, dentists often refer patients for testing, potentially allowing for the early detection of diabetes.
Your gums do more than anchor your teeth—they can mirror your cardiovascular health. Gum disease (periodontitis) is linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Dentists trained to recognize chronic inflammation, receding gums, or loose teeth may alert patients to get their heart checked. The mouth is part of the body’s vascular system, after all, and inflammation in one area can signal inflammation elsewhere.
Conditions such as lupus, Crohn’s disease, or Sjögren’s syndrome often first appear in the mouth. Dentists may observe symptoms like severe dry mouth, ulcers, or a red, inflamed tongue that doesn’t respond to typical treatment. By identifying these signs early, dental professionals can prompt further testing and guide patients toward a diagnosis that might have otherwise been delayed for years.
Dentists are trained to check for oral cancers during routine exams, looking at the tongue, cheeks, gums, and throat. However, they can also identify signs that may indicate other types of cancer. Unusual bleeding, lumps, discoloration, or sores that don’t heal may be indicative of something more serious. Some systemic cancers can also suppress the immune system, making the mouth more susceptible to infection.
Because dental visits are more frequent for many people than doctor visits, dentists are in a unique position to identify systemic issues early. When oral signs are identified and linked to broader concerns, patients can initiate treatment or monitoring sooner. This proactive approach not only improves outcomes but can sometimes save lives.
Dentists regularly take X-rays of the jawbone to assess oral health. But a shrinking or thinning jawbone can also indicate early signs of osteoporosis. Since this condition often goes undiagnosed until

Good sleep is your secret beauty weapon, and winter is the season to lean into it. Try this nightly routine to improve sleep quality, reduce stress, and wake up feeling more refreshed and radiant.

• 5 minutes of light stretching or foam rolling
• Sip on chamomile or lavender tea

This mindful wind-down supports hormonal balance, helps your skin regenerate, and sets the stage for deeper, more restful sleep.

a fracture occurs, a dentist’s observation may be a critical first step in prevention.
Grinding, jaw clenching, and mouth sores can all be physical manifestations of stress or anxiety. Dentists can often detect these patterns and open the door for a broader conversation about mental health, something patients may not even realize is affecting them. In some cases, dentists can recommend bite guards or refer patients to a mental health professional for further support.
Dentists can also play a role in identifying sleep apnea, especially when examining the structure of the jaw, palate, and throat. Symptoms like a scalloped tongue or teeth worn down from grinding may indicate interrupted sleep. Dentists trained in sleep medicine often collaborate with sleep specialists to arrange for further testing and even customfit oral appliances that help manage the condition.
Pregnant women experience hormonal fluctuations that can impact their gum health. Dentists can identify pregnancy-related gingivitis, which may be linked to preterm birth or low birth weight if untreated. This is why it’s crucial for expecting mothers to maintain regular dental visits and hygiene routines.
When the immune system is under significant strain, the mouth often shows it first. Persistent thrush, unusual spots on the tongue, or sudden gum problems can signal deeper health concerns. Dentists trained to recognize these signs help connect patients with physicians for appropriate testing.
Dry mouth, tissue overgrowth, discoloration, and even mouth ulcers can be side effects of prescription drugs. Dentists are often the first to notice these effects and can adjust care or consult with the patient’s physician to consider alternatives.
Today’s best dental practices take an integrated approach, collaborating with general physicians, endocrinologists, cardiologists, and other specialists. With patient permission, dentists can share observations that might be crucial for broader medical decisions.
The next time you’re in the dental chair, remember—your dentist is doing more than cleaning your teeth. They’re performing a fullbody health check, watching for subtle changes that could indicate something far beyond your smile. When it comes to whole-body wellness, oral health is anything but separate.
BECAUSE DENTAL VISITS ARE MORE FREQUENT FOR MANY PEOPLE THAN DOCTOR VISITS, DENTISTS ARE IN A UNIQUE POSITION TO IDENTIFY SYSTEMIC ISSUES EARLY.
