Welcome to our Home issue.
This was an exciting issue to produce because all the people we included are the behind the scenes hometown heroes. The ones who make the dream a reality in making our community beautiful, keeping with the nostalgic and nature filled vision of George Mitchell.
In this issue we feature the builders, architects, designers, trendsetters and renovators that bring life back into our aging areas and buildings. Our story Bold & Beautiful Home Trends illustrates the design aesthetics we can look forward to seeing more of in 2025.
We interviewed Michael and Ashley Cordray from the hit show ‘Restoring Galveston’ where the local Galveston Island couple features homes they renovate and sell. The photos are so colorful and cozy!
My husband Dave and I sat down with Brad Bailey, Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Woodlands Township. In a wonderful conversation, we talked about being long time residents of The Woodlands and the recently celebrated 50th Anniversary and Brad shared the vision of the board member team for the "next 50." There are some very exciting ideas being brought to light.
Though we have several traditional Villages where residents live, there are other unique living concepts available near and around the Waterway, Hughes Landing and Town Center. The story includes Lakes Edge I & II, Riva Row Townhomes, Waterway Lofts, Remington Brownstones and more. We were excited to include the renderings of the future luxury Ritz-Carlton Residences and 1 Riva Row high-rise.
Hopefully, you will enjoy reading our Home issue in the comfort of your own home!

If you watch network house restoration shows, you are certainly familiar with Michael and Ashley Cordray’s ‘Restoring Galveston’ where the local Galveston Island couple features homes they renovate and sell. ‘Restoring Galveston’ has returned for a seventh season in November 2024.
Galveston is home to some of the most charming and historic homes. From traditional cottages to majestic homes with grand entrances, pillars, and architectural details, The Cordrays have a niche for spotting hidden gems waiting to be showcased. Michael’s favorite thing to highlight is their beloved city of Galveston. “Galveston is a spectacular town, with so much to offer, always something going on. Still affordable compared to many other coastal communities,” he says. “We’d still be doing this regardless of the production company or not.”
Michael explained while they both have their favorite paint colors and materials to work with, they don’t buy anything in bulk to use over multiple projects. Each project is custom. No pallets of tile or backsplash to save money over time. Each house has its own personalization with their influence. “We’ve already been incredibly involved from the start,” shares Michael. “We have our own unique style and let each house speak for itself.”
“A LOT OF TIMES YOU GO INTO PROJECTS WITH THE best of intentions, BUT YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT IS BEHIND THE WALL until the drywall COMES DOWN.”
— MICHAEL CORDRAY
During this season’s show, Michael and Ashley worked with the homeowners and took their input and during the renovation process they curated and incorporated their own style pulling it together in the end for a fantastic reveal. Michael explained that the perfect scenario on paper is that timelines are executed and completed on time, not only for the production company, but also for the displaced homeowners, as seen in this most recent season’s episode. In this instance, time certainly was of the essence and the couple made it a priority.
One dynamic in the timeline is of course the challenge of weather emergencies that crop up unexpectedly. Hurricanes can cause issues or delays and rain delays have happened. Fortunately, the couple has not had major weather-related incidents to overcome over the past eight years, but there are those days when predicted or not, rain happens. Sometimes, the next day is the big house reveal and they might still be painting the exterior of a home. “It does always seem to rain though, the day before a reveal when you need to move everything!” Michael says laughing.
The couple does not find it challenging to strike a work and family life balance. The successful couple is deliberate about spending time with their family and carving out meaningful time throughout the workday as a result.
Fortunately for Michael and Ashley, Galveston is a smaller community where their projects are not as spread out from various locations, offices, and warehouses. The proximity helps the couple maintain balance and not miss a beat managing

IT, execute it , AND FIGHT IT
their family obligations geographically. Between the hotel, the ice cream shop, and rental properties they manage, and other residential client projects, Michael and Ashley remain very hands-on during the process.
“We are as busy as anyone I know,” says Michael. “Somedays it does not feel that anyone is as busy as we are, but I think we do a really good job of family time. We take the girls to school each morning and pick them up. Even throughout the day, geographically, Galveston helps us since everything is so close. Sometimes we can come home for lunch and see the girls before our evening family time.”
From start to finish Michael shared that the project comes together fairly quickly. Typically, the seasons have a longer runway to work with but not this season. While working on one project, the couple is simultaneously looking at purchasing the next eight properties. The couple has always owned their property that they work on. The network stands behind them as the couple collects along
the way. Michael admits with a laugh that they face storage issues. From old lumber to old furniture, the couple buys something and might not have an immediate use for it but know the right project will come up where it will be perfect.
“Ashley’s always had the ability to come up with fun ideas; I embrace it, execute it, and fight it sometimes,” Michael joked. “We always roll with our unique style and tend to fight trends.” Michael shared how he and Ashley had different ideas on a current restaurant project underway. He wanted an 80s or 90s vibe, bright color schemes, and Ashley wanted more muted tones, very vintage like a 20s or 30s vibe. As a result, they ended up settling on a 60s and 70s theme from a color perspective. The interior still reflects a modern flair.
“A lot of times you go into projects with the best of intentions, but you don’t know what is behind the wall until the drywall comes down,” says Michael. “We’ve seen enough projects to expect the worst and typically we are pleasantly surprised. Usually, it’s some fun original materials like shiplap or painted beadboard, or something else fun that can change the course of the design.”
“One thing we are fluid with is finding something and embracing it, rather than sticking to what we’ve started with and designed on paper,” he says. “We will be sporadic and change on the fly if something presents itself as a good reason.”
Michael and Ashley both had full-time jobs, and they were working on one house themselves. On nights and weekends they were contractors, carpenters, painters, literally doing everything themselves and simultaneously Michael was posting photos of fun, old rundown Galveston properties, and the network was looking for an affordable beach community and that is how they landed the project.
“Somehow, the production company thought that the couple flipping one house could produce a television show and do eight or more at the same time,” shared Michael. “Which still seems crazy, but with my background in sales, we convinced them we could do it, and we have.”
While the couple knows the ins and outs of the industry, there are pivots and situations arise. Many wonder how scripted the episodes we see on TV are, and Michael said that usually they wing it. They both know the intricacies they need to talk about, but there is no script and the two figure it out as they go along with the viewers. Michael shared that the network films a lot of material,
“LOVE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ingredient. IT’S LIKE COOKING, YOU ADD LOVE, AND IT works out .”
and they spend a lot of time on the projects for what amounts to about 40 minutes of television material.
A past favorite reveal that sticks out with Michael was his mom’s house back a few seasons ago. “It was fun to give back to her,” shares Michael. “She still lives in the same house I was brought home from the hospital in.” Michael said she would have never done that for herself, and they gave her a new space that she now loves to entertain in.
The Pink Shack episode, one of the couple’s first ones, was a house they bought for next to nothing and everyone
told them they overpaid because it was in such disrepair. Some of the projects that are underdogs are their favorites shared Michael. Everyone sees the potential in some of these types of houses and that’s the fun in it, the underdog ones that often look like they don’t have anything going on, but then when you peel back some layers you highlight those things and make them special. We love those the most said Michael.
“Love is the most important ingredient,” says Michael. “It’s like cooking, you add love, and it works out.”

“My favorite part of living here is being a part of a close community.” — Rebecca Masciola
Residents of The Woodlands are well acquainted with its intentional design, honoring the natural environment while cultivating a strong sense of community. Developers emphasized preserving the natural landscape, promoting environmental stewardship, and fostering social connections in an innovative manner. This dedication to forward-thinking design has remained steadfast throughout The Woodlands’ 50-year history, providing an exceptional living experience.
A 2022 market survey of The Woodlands residents revealed that over 70% of respondents indicated the area’s natural beauty — its trees, greenery, parks, woods, and pathways — as a favorite aspect of living in The Woodlands. They also praised its aesthetic appeal, cleanliness, high quality of life, and safety.
In addition to the single family homes in The Woodlands’ eight villages, there are unique residences which fit seamlessly into The Woodlands’ master plan. Developers of these properties strive to maintain the exacting standards of the #1 community in which to live in America. You may have heard about these developments — but read on to learn more about these novel communities.
These luxury residences in the heart of The Woodlands have breathtaking views of Lake Woodlands. Residents appreciate life surrounded by nature, with scenic trails, water sports, and conveniently located dining and shopping.
These mid-rise properties feature spacious, contemporary apartments with designer touches and high-end fixtures. Resort-style amenities include an infinity edge pool, lakeside lounge patio and fire pit, upscale clubhouse, private cabanas with lounge seating and TVs, state-of-the-art fitness center, and outdoor fitness lawn.

Liberty Branch resident Rebecca Masciola says her family was drawn to the inviting atmosphere of a village with sidewalks, cute front porches, and the old-fashioned feel of a village where homes are tucked closely together. Her family loves that it’s conveniently located, allowing them to walk to school and Creekside Village Green for playing and picnicking.
A close community environment and neighborhood support of local businesses are favorite features for the Masciolas. Rebecca appreciates that neighbors check in on one another — part of Liberty Branch’s charm. It’s a pedestrian neighborhood, with folks strolling the streets and enjoying the parks. Proximity to schools makes it attractive for families with young children. Empty nesters enjoy hearing youngsters playing outdoors, and they benefit from smaller yards allowing for time to relax and enjoy their homes.
Popular attractions within walking distance include Creekside Village Green for dinner at Monarca, cocktails at Fieldings, acai bowls at Frutta Bowls, and old-fashioned treats at Jordan’s Sweet Shoppe.
You can discover the small town ambiance of Liberty Branch conveniently located in Creekside Park.
The term brownstone is often used interchangeably with townhome. The design originated during the 18th century Romanticism era, and it advocated for the importance of nature in society and culture. Once again developers in The Woodlands maintain a respect for nature combined with urban sophistication. Remington Brownstones along The Woodlands Waterway are within walking distance of The Woodlands Mall, Market Street, and many of the area’s finest restaurants. In the East Shore neighborhood, brownstone residents enjoy beautifully manicured gardens and scenic walking trails. The Woodlands realtor Jo Anne Johnson describes the East Shore neighborhood townhomes as the Garden District of The Woodlands. These areas have the coveted feature of being within a stone’s throw of The Woodlands’ concert venues: The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Northshore Park, and Waterway and Hughes Landing bandshells — all attractive options for young professionals.
Master-planned community Waterway Lofts offers a diverse array of floorplans, ranging from one to three-bedroom residences to opulent penthouses. Each home features open-concept layouts with high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, chef-concept kitchens,
and private balconies offering striking views of The Woodlands Waterway.
Residents enjoy abundant amenities, including a resortstyle pool, fitness center, and a serene rooftop lounge for relaxing or hosting friends. This pedestrian-friendly location is steps away from upscale dining, shopping, and entertainment along The Woodlands Waterway.
Waterway Lofts offers resort living combined with amenities supporting an active lifestyle, embracing the natural beauty of The Woodlands.
Construction on The Ritz-Carlton Residences is underway, and they will be the first stand-alone RitzCarlton residences in the State of Texas. The development team at Howard Hughes continues to plan properties in The Woodlands featuring “innovation, sustainability, and excellence.” With each residence designed to resemble a grand Texas estate, owners will experience unparalleled grandeur and spaciousness.
“The Ritz-Carlton Residences, The Woodlands, presents an exclusive opportunity for those seeking unparalleled luxury and effortless living, where exceptional design and convenience converge. CONVERSATION WITH OUR LOCAL DESIGN PROFESSIONALS
It’s that time of year again. A long winter is finally over, the 4 inches of snowfall received in late January, the cold snaps are now a thing of the past. By the end of this month, the spring wildflowers will be out, the trees will be budding, the hummingbirds making their return, and the tops will be down on our convertibles once again.
This also means it is time for Spring Cleaning. The annual airing out the house,

putting the heavier blankets away, changing the wardrobes for some. Inevitably what accompanies this thought is often the talk of “it’s time to remodel the home.” If not remodel, perhaps just bring it up to date.
In thinking of this article, we spoke with Amanda Carreon of Rose Wade Design, John Hinote of Lux Lifestyle Designs, and Dwelling Designs’ Laura Mays. As we are now a quarter of the way through the 21st century, I think the style, in a way, reflects this. 2025 will be all about embracing vibrant colors, earthy materials, and personal touches. Here’s a closer look at the trends set to dominate the home in the months and years ahead.
Gone are the days of sterile white walls and ultra-minimalist interiors. In 2025, homeowners are gravitating toward rich, earthy tones that evoke warmth and comfort. According to Carreon, “Bolder and more earth tones are making a return.” Expect to see spaces awash in hues like mauve, taupe, olive, and creamy beige. These shades serve as a calming foundation while allowing for bolder accents. One standout trend highlighted, says Mays, is “color-drenching,” where a single color is used unapologetically throughout a space. “Moody purples, caramel browns, and toffee tones are also gaining traction,”
“HOMEOWNERS ARE BLURRING THE LINES BETWEEN INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SPACES BY INCORPORATING OUTDOOR KITCHENS & COZY SEATING AREAS.”
creating interiors that feel both dramatic and inviting.
Textured wallpapers are making a comeback, offering a tactile quality that paint can’t match. “Wallpaper with texture, veneered stone, and organic fibers like linen, bamboo, and cotton are becoming staples,” says Carreon. These materials add depth and character to any room, making spaces feel more lived-in and authentic.
Another rising star? Brick backsplashes and board-formed concrete, which bring a rustic yet modern flair to kitchens,
bathrooms, and living rooms. Paired with checkered flooring, these elements evoke a sense of nostalgia while remaining undeniably contemporary.
With more people staying home postCOVID, functionality has become just as important as style. Carreon notes, “People are creating retreats in functionality.” This translates to cozy reading nooks, dramatic workspaces with rich wood tones, and gallery walls that tell a story.
“Integrated outdoor living is another trend that shows no signs of slowing
down,” adds Hinote. “Homeowners are increasingly blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces by incorporating outdoor kitchens, cozy seating areas, and weather-resistant decor.” The goal? To create a seamless transition that makes the outdoors feel like a natural extension of your home. A personal resort for yourself and family.
Technology continues to revolutionize home design. “Clients are adding controls and devices to automate their homes,” Carreon explains. From voice-activated lighting to fireplaces that can be remotely controlled, smart home capabilities are making everyday life more convenient. These innovations aren’t just about utility—they’re also enhancing the overall ambiance by allowing homeowners to set different moods with a simple command.
In 2025, cookie-cutter interiors are out, and customization is in. Homeowners are working closely with designers to create spaces that reflect their unique personalities. “Clients are bringing their own art for designers to work around or opting for custom furniture and built-ins,” says Carreon. Statement pieces are also taking center stage, with furniture serving as both functional elements and works of art. Whether it’s a bold sofa in a striking color or a sculptural coffee table, these pieces add individuality and flair to a room.
“WE ARE SEEING MORE GEOMETRIC SHAPED POOLS WITH LARGE FORMAT TILES FOR LESS GROUT SEAMS.”
According to Mays, the past is making a stylish comeback in 2025, with a modern twist. “Grass textures and earthy hues reminiscent of the 1980s are reappearing, though updated for contemporary tastes. In textiles, hand-blocked and polished cotton prints are enjoying a revival, bringing a touch of vintage charm to upholstery and drapery.”
“’80s flame stitch patterns are also making waves,” Carreon shares, noting
their ability to add dynamic visual interest. And let’s not forget animal prints—a classic that’s poised to regain popularity this year.
When it comes to the backyard, Hinote continues, “We are seeing more geometric shaped pools with large format tiles for less grout seams. A more complete design of back yards including patio, turf and full Oasis designs complete with landscaping. Also seeing the use of wood look pavers being used
around the pool to soften the cold colors of blacks, whites and grays.” For the exterior the warmer colors are out. As are the free-formed pools with large rock fountains.
“Automation in pool controls has come a long way with the introduction of a new control system in the last few years. This new system allows you to control heaters, chillers and pumps, water features and other items seamlessly with a single app. The app can even show you your energy cost and savings and help run your pool more efficiently by canceling events that may be taking place during inclement weather storms. You can also preset times to use the pool and spa and allow the software to use AI to calculate the amount of heating or cooling time needed to have your pool ready to use.”
The home design trends of 2025 are all about embracing individuality, functionality, and bold aesthetics. From rich earth tones and textured materials to smart home technology and nostalgic revivals, there’s something for everyone in this year’s design palette.
When it comes down to it, design is about creating spaces that feel authentic and personal. In 2025, the focus is on making your home a reflection of who you are—bold, beautiful, and uniquely yours. So go ahead, take a leap of faith with that moody purple wall or invest in that statement chair. Your home deserves to be as dynamic and vibrant as you are.

In today’s sophisticated design landscape, luxury storage extends beyond closets, reimagining every corner of our homes—from pantries and garages to media cabinets and kitchens—into thoughtfully curated spaces that embody elegance and function.
The Closet: Your Personal Sanctuary: Let’s begin with the closet, a realm that deserves to be transformed into a true sanctuary. This space is not just for storing garments; it serves as a retreat where style meets serenity. Imagine a closet that reflects your personal aesthetic, outfitted with plush carpeting, ambient lighting, and custom cabinetry. Every detail, from hardware to shelving, should resonate with your unique taste, creating a seamless transition into your bedroom.
Innovative Design Solutions for Corners: Gone are the days of neglecting challenging corners. Innovative designers are utilizing these spaces to their full potential by incorporating custom corner units that maximize storage without compromising style. These bespoke solutions allow for hidden compartments for shoes, bags, and accessories, turning what was once a dead zone into a practical and visually appealing area.
The Allure of Glass and Mirrors: Incorporating glass and mirrors into closet design elevates the experience. Mirrored doors and reflective surfaces create an illusion of space and light, making the closet feel expansive and luxurious. Clear glass cases offer a sophisticated way to display your finest accessories while protecting them from dust—a perfect blend of beauty and utility.
Lighting that Sets the Mood: Lighting plays a crucial role in transforming the ambiance of your closet. Soft, warm backlighting replaces harsh overhead fixtures, creating a serene environment reminiscent of a high-end boutique. Consider installing dimmers to adjust the mood throughout the day, ensuring that your closet is always a welcoming retreat.
Galley Closets: The Height of Efficiency: For those with limited space, galley closets offer an elegant solution. These hallway-style designs feature custom units lining both sides, providing ample storage while maintaining a streamlined look. A carefully placed window or seating area invites natural light and transforms the space into a charming nook for reflection.
Intentional Custom Cabinetry: Investing in custom cabinetry is a hallmark of luxury living. Focus on personalized details that reflect your style—from unique hardware choices to custom edge profiles. This attention to detail enhances functionality while creating a cohesive design that flows seamlessly into your master suite.

Bright, Light, and Airy Spaces: A well-designed closet should feel uplifting. Embrace bright, airy aesthetics with light-colored organization units and natural light. Dark wood or tile flooring can ground the design, adding warmth and depth. Choose a stunning finish for your center island that serves as both a focal point and a practical work surface.
Extending Luxury Beyond the Closet: Luxury storage is not confined to the closet; it extends throughout the home. Picture an impeccably organized pantry where every spice is within reach, or a garage transformed into a sophisticated storage solution that rivals any showroom. Custom shelving in media cabinets allows you to showcase your curated collection of films and books, blending functionality with elegance.
Kitchens as Culinary Sanctuaries: Your kitchen should be more than just a place to prepare meals; it should be a culinary sanctuary. Thoughtfully designed storage ensures that everything from cookware to gourmet ingredients is easily accessible, allowing for a seamless cooking experience.
Weekend DIY: Elevate Your Space: For those looking to refresh their spaces, consider simple weekend DIY projects that can have a profound impact. Install a chic counter in front of your full-length mirror to create a vanity area or apply elegant wallpaper to your closet for a splash of personality. These small changes can elevate your space into a truly luxurious experience.
Illuminating Elegance with Chandeliers: Lastly, consider adding a chandelier to your closet or dressing area. Nestled in Houston’s historic East Downtown neighborhood is J-Bar-M Barbecue, one of the city’s most critically acclaimed palaces of smoked meats.
Founded in 2021 by lifelong Houstonian and entrepreneur John Toomey, J-Bar-M has embraced the neighborhood it resides in by hosting a variety of cultural happenings, from concerts to car shows and even the occasional boxing match under its massive outdoor patio space. It didn’t take long for J-Bar-M to become a Bayou City destination, especially with the city’s international visitors for its outsized Texas vibes. The restaurant was named one of Texas Monthly’s “Top 25 Best New BBQ Joints” and has a “Wall of Fame” with photos of notable guests that includes sports stars CJ Stroud, Earl Campbell, Dan Pastorini, Jamal Shead and Clyde Drexler.
Chances are when you walk into J-Bar-M on any given day, you will find general manager Hoffie Ferreira holding court with customers and staff. He’s hard to miss, built like a superstar WWE wrestler and wearing his signature shades, his arms adorned with copious amounts of tattoos. The native South African – a 6-foot-8 former rugby player – is the first person that most notice when they arrive at J-Bar-M.
“Everyone is welcome at J-Bar-M,” Ferreira says. “We’ve developed a community around this place that you can feel when you walk in the doors. Someone always greets you with a smile and a hello, and the food is an extension of that. I like to call it H-Town hospitality.”
The menu at J-Bar-M features all of the smoked meats that a great barbecue joint in Texas has to offer, from lovingly crafted brisket to juicy turkey, succulent sausage and smoked chicken. The sides and entrees here are wildly inventive, influenced by the neighborhood's culinary history, mixing soul food with Tex-Mex for a uniquely Houston flavor. You can find smoked cheeseburgers, brisket enchiladas and even occasional brisket lasagna on the weekly menu.
“Each day, I walk into the pit room or the kitchen and see our pitmaster Nick Orozco and Mr. Chuy working on something new and special for our customers,”
Ferreira says. “Delivering top notch barbecue is the goal here, and we allow our staff to explore their creativity with our daily and weekly specials, like our Tex-Mex and Italian dishes. We’re always innovating and listening to our customers, which makes our menu so much fun.”
Not to be outdone, J-Bar-M also has a full cocktail bar with an expansive list of rare spirits and curated wine offerings to pair with its barbecue menu. Bourbon and brisket, how much more urban cowboy can it get?
J-Bar-M is conveniently located just a few blocks from Daikin Park, Toyota Center and Shell Energy Stadium, making it a favorite among sports fans to pregame before the biggest games and concerts that are within walking distance. There’s plenty of TVs, too, if you just feel like posting up at J-Bar-M instead and watching a game.
“At the end of the day, we want people to walk away from J-Bar-M feeling like they had an amazing experience,” Ferreira says. “That’s always been my goal and the goal of the Toomey family. J-Bar-M is the perfect pairing of Houston hospitality and barbecue.”
EXCITING CHANGES FOR THE FUTURE OF THE WOODLANDS
ARTICLE BY JO AND DAVE HAMMON | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
My husband Dave and I recently sat down with Brad Bailey, Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Woodlands Township, to discuss the next chapter of The Woodlands. Our discussion with him felt like stepping into a time capsule of community history and a vision board for the future. Our meeting took place at Starbucks in the Panther Creek shopping center—a nostalgic location in one of The Woodlands’ oldest villages and a cornerstone of its original design.
As long-time residents, we each swapped stories about local favorite restaurants and shops, reminiscing about what has come and gone. Over the years, we’ve all witnessed the incredible growth and transformation of this unique community.
A major focus of The Woodlands Township Board Members is revitalizing the aging village centers while staying true to George Mitchell’s founding vision of integrating nature into every aspect of the community. This effort involves close collaboration with Regency Centers, the owners of all The Woodlands Village shopping centers, with the exception of the Grogan’s Mill Village Center and The Windvale Shopping Center. Through economic development incentives and thoughtful planning, the goal is to attract new businesses, delicious dining, and unique shopping experiences —all while preserving the community’s natural charm.
Brad shared some inspiring examples, like Highland Park Village in Dallas, where an older shopping center was beautifully revived with features like a restored clock tower, Mediterranean tile roofing, and upgraded lighting. For Panther Creek, ideas include partnering
with The Woodlands Arts Council to create an artist collaboration, perhaps a mosaic or painted mural on the iconic clock tower. Simple enhancements like fresh paint, better lighting, music, landscaping, and expanded parking could transform Panther Creek into a vibrant hub, serving as a blueprint for revitalizing all the village centers.
One of the most exciting developments The Township Board Members are exploring is building The Woodlands’ first-ever Performing Arts Center. While early in the process, many think an ideal location would be the Town Center, near Market Street and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Woodlands Pavilion. Echoing George Mitchell’s emphasis on integrating nature, the arts center will be nestled among trees and adjacent to the Waterway. Early potential plans may include an upscale hotel and retail space within walking distance, creating a cozy yet cosmopolitan destination.
Nature remains a cornerstone of The Woodlands’ identity. Brad highlighted plans for South Gosling Park, a 206-acre area just south of the bridge on Gosling Road, bordering Spring Creek. Potential developments include extending the hike-and-bike trails or even creating a Par 3 golf course, offering new recreational opportunities for residents.
“Our aging village centers need to be modernized to recruit the restaurants and businesses we need in The Woodlands in 2025.”
As The Woodlands continues to grow, parking has become an increasing challenge, especially in the Town Center area. Brad acknowledged this issue, noting that the Township is actively working with stakeholders and exploring solutions to expand parking options to accommodate residents and visitors alike.
Reforestation also remains a top priority. In 2024, the Township invested over $1 million in reforestation projects and plans to match or exceed that commitment in 2025. These efforts ensure The Woodlands retains its lush, green canopy for many generations to come.
We wrapped up with a lively discussion about the 50-year anniversary celebration that recently took place. Brad was very excited about the celebration, including the Lyle Lovett concert and drone show and the event's strong turnout, and he is already excited about planning the next one! As The Woodlands enters its next 50-year chapter, the community’s leadership is committed to preserving its unique character while embracing thoughtful growth and innovation. From revitalizing village centers to introducing cultural landmarks and expanding green spaces, the future looks bright—a perfect blend of progress and preservation that honors George Mitchell’s original vision.
Charley Crockett, Texas-Born Maverick Comes to the Rodeo
Texas star Charley Crockett will shine at the Houston Rodeo on Tuesday, March 17.
Charley announced his new album Lonesome Drifter, out March 14, his official debut for Island Records. Crockett co-produced the album alongside multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning Shooter Jennings. Over the course of just 10 days, they cut the record’s 12 tracks live at the legendary Sunset Sounds Studio in Los Angeles, CA.
In many ways, the title track evokes the essence of the album itself. For years, Crockett has quietly swung the aforementioned hammer to survive. He’s kept his head down and delivered music at a relentless pace, refining his “Gulf & Western” sound, and playing just as hard on the road to boot.
All of that work and life effectively prepared him to record Lonesome Drifter with Shooter. Musically, he traces a roadmap through his own myriad of influences, tipping a hat to everybody from Waylon Jennings, Bill Withers, Bob Dylan, and Woody Guthrie, drawing on countless, often unbelievable
true experiences since he first left his native Texas. From the spellbinding vocal performances to the raw and rustic instrumentation to the unforgettable storytelling, Lonesome Drifter stands out as his most cohesive body of work to date.
Charley never just waited around, asked for permission, or let opportunity find him. Instead, the GRAMMY® Award-nominated Texas-born maverick defied the odds at every turn, releasing 14 albums independently, and grinding from obscurity to selling out some of the world’s most renowned venues.
He has continuously pushed forward too. Since 2015, he has paved a singular path out of Texas. Beyond garnering hundreds of millions of streams, he picked up his first GRAMMY® nod for 2024’s $10 Cowboy. In the last year alone, he notably sold out Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO, the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, CA, and two nights at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Crockett and his music have also received praise from The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and Variety.

Henry’s Home, a sanctuary dedicated to giving horses their forever homes and providing equine-assisted learning programs for veterans and retired first responders, has entered a remarkable new phase of growth and transformation under the leadership of Darlene Gagnon.
Since stepping into a pivotal organizational role, Darlene Gagnon has spearheaded significant advancements in Henry’s Home’s facilities and services. Beginning in May 2024, Darlene transitioned
off the Board of Directors as Interim CEO to dedicate three months to restructuring Henry’s Home’s business model. That three-month mission evolved into a 24-month commitment to ensure the sanctuary’s long-term success and sustainability. Darlene and, with the support of her husband, Denis Gagnon, have overseen a complete renovation of the facilities, breathing new life into the sanctuary to better serve both its herd of rescued horses and our nation’s heroes. With the revamped structure,

they successfully implemented enhanced programs designed to empower veterans and retired first responders through equine-assisted learning. These programs have had a profound reach, supporting an impressive 275 individuals nationwide in 2024 alone.
Financially, the Gagnons have proven to be trailblazers, securing over $800,000 in funding to advance Henry’s Home’s mission. Stepping into
2025, Henry’s Home is launching an exciting new donor match campaign. Thanks to a generous donor, contributions will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $250,000. This presents an extraordinary opportunity for the community to double its impact. Every donation helps horses find purpose and forever homes while offering our nation's heroes the chance to heal, grow, and connect.
“IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT RESCUING HORSES; IT’S ABOUT CREATING A SPACE WHERE HOPE TAKES ROOT.”
"We believe deeply in the work being done at Henry’s Home," said Denis Gagnon. "It’s not just about rescuing horses; it’s about creating a space where hope takes root—for our majestic horses and the heroes who have given us the freedoms we so richly enjoy as American citizens. But we can’t do this alone. As Americans, we can give our heroes a gift of healing through our programs. We call on our local community to join us in this mission."
Darlene Gagnon adds, “Equine-assisted learning has become a beacon of hope for veterans nationwide. These programs provide a unique opportunity to promote healing, communication, and emotional resilience. Veterans often form a deeply restorative bond with the horses, finding comfort and strength as they work through challenges in a safe and peaceful environment. This work is especially crucial in Texas, home to the largest
concentration of veterans in the United States. For many, Henry's Home is more than a sanctuary—it’s a lifeline. Supporting these initiatives ensures that those who have served our country have access to the tools they need to thrive long after their service.”
Beyond their involvement with Henry’s Home, the Gagnons bring decades of entrepreneurial expertise to the table as the owners of three companies—WeKinnect Global Branding Agency, Kinetic Promotional Product Services, and 360 Entrepreneurship. These businesses reflect their passion for empowering others, driving meaningful change, and fostering success.
Henry’s Home relies on the generosity of supporters to continue its mission of providing sanctuary for horses and hope for our heroes. Join us in making a difference through our 2025 donor match campaign! Every dollar you contribute will be matched up to $250,000, doubling your impact.
Visit henryshomesanctuary.org today to donate and help us provide life-changing programs for veterans, retired first responders, and the rescued horses they partner with. Together, we can create a future where healing and second chances thrive—for everyone who needs them.
