One of our eagle-eyed ‘Friends of Life In Orpington’, Mary CodyCowdery, spotted this unique bookcase. Mary told us… "Have you seen this bookcase at the top of Spur Road? [left hand side coming from War Memorial near bus stop and the traffic lights – outside Number 123 Spur Road]. It brings a smile to me seeing it and what a lovely cabinet. Plaque reads “Take a book, Leave a book”. Has a selection of books for all ages."

Musicians required Would you like to come and play for the Orpington Folk Dance Group sometimes? The group puts together Playford style dances from the 17th/18th centuries and each one has its own tune, so there's plenty of variety. The group meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 11.45am-1.45pm at Farnborough Village Hall. If interested, please email janetmaile@rocketmail.com or call 01689-836407.

SUPPORTING LOCAL AUTHORS… You might just recognise the house style on the cover of Patricia Latter’s book And Some Have Witchcraft Thrust Upon Them. It’s based on Patricia’s own home in leafy Petts Wood. The book tells the story of Jane who, after being made redundant, struggles to adapt to a new lifestyle in leafy suburbia. She is appalled by the superstitions of her neighbours and horrified when rumours circulate that she practises witchcraft. Jane ultimately faces being burned at the stake - but all is not quite as it seems. This – and Patricia’s other books - are available in paperback and ebook versions from Amazon.co.uk Are you a local author? We’d love to hear from you! Get in touch at hello@lifeinmagazines.co.uk
