Louisa bevestig Andries se voorbeeld van harde en gefokusde werk. “Andries sal dadelik vir voorraad reël indien dit nie in die tak beskikbaar is nie en dit selfs na-ure by die kliënt gaan aflaai. Kliënte het ook nie nodig om hulp te soek in die winkel nie en word onmiddellik deur Andries bygestaan, wat natuurlik sy kantoor-administrasie onder druk plaas, wat hy dan in sy eie tyd weer moet opvang.”
Ten spyte van ʼn kleiner span en ʼn groot werkslading, het Andries nooit ongelukkig of negatief teenoor personeel of kliënte geraak nie en spog hy altyd met ‘n glimlag. Soggens werk hy eerstens deur sy omsetstate en beplan dan die nuwe dag se verkope en wat hy moet najaag. Sy daaglikse bemarkingsplan sluit oproepe na kliënte in en Hopetown Handel se syfers kan van hierdie toewyding getuig.
Ons kort beslis nog Andries’e in GWK! Dankie dat jy en al jou kollegas GWK se naam so mooi uitbou en laat hoog wapper. As elkeen van ons bereidwillig is om ons kliënte op hierdie wyse by te staan, sal niks vir GWK keer om die beste diens in die land te lewer nie.

Having open and direct communication channels ensures that employees and management will enjoy a better relationship. Back in June 2022, the Human Resources department at Farm Foods reached out to their employees to find a way of improving internal communications.
For this initiative, post boxes were erected at the facilities in Modderriver and Christiana, giving employees the opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns and make suggestions, knowing that their messages will reach management and will be heard. These messages were then answered by posters that are put up around Farm Foods’s facilities.
After a fun naming competition, Megan Madebe was crowned the deserved victor with her ‘Chatterbox’ entry. Soon, the Chatterbox platform and post boxes were designed and rolled out. The main idea behind Chatterbox was to get employees to be actively involved in the open communication between management and all employees. Some of the questions that were received include:
Why do employees need to take time off during the fumigation of the facilities?
Due to the high toxicity levels during fumigation, we cannot work. We are required to take leave, and the company accommodates us by providing half of the leave. A leave balance of a maximum of negative two days (-2) is also granted. This arrangement avoids high levels of unpaid leave and manages our workers’ well-being.
Is overtime work compulsory?
Each employee agreed, in their employment contract, to work overtime. Feel free to refer to your contract. As a responsible employer, GWK will require and manage overtime reasonably and legally as the business’s needs dictate.
Since the questions have been thoroughly answered, HR went a step further by cleverly dissecting each division’s policy. Each policy is there to ensure transparency and to keep employees safe at work. One of the policies was that of taking leave. We know it is a complex policy, but thanks to Chatterbox, a simple onepage poster was designed and distributed at the respective Farm Foods facilities. Valuable points that were addressed include:
What is the process for taking leave? Employees must fill in the leave book well before they want to take leave. The department head must approve and sign it and return the book to the Human Resources clerk at the facility. The information is then captured on the system. No leave is processed without the approval and signature of the relevant head of the department.
What can happen if I don’t take the proper steps with my leave application?
If you are absent without leave or permission, disciplinary action may be taken against you. Absence without permission is seen in a serious light and can lead to a hearing process.
