After three years of not being able to host the annual GWK Soccer Champs (thanks, Covid), this popular tournament returned with a bang on 22 October this year. Eight teams competed to be crowned the GWK Soccer Champs, and this year GWK Farm Foods Modderrivier earned the coveted title when they beat Kyto 2-0 in the final.

The participating teams were:

• GWK Douglas

• GWK Farm Foods Christiana

• GWK Farm Foods Modderrivier

• GWK Kimberley

• GWK Modderrivier

• GWK Prieska

• GWK Luckhoff

• Kyto (previously GWK Meat)

The tournament took place at the De Beers stadium in Kimberley, where supporters came together in the hopes that their team will take home the trophy. Unfortunately, the home team, GWK Kimberley, fell out of the race early when they lost 2-5 to GWK Modderrivier. In the semi-finals Farm Foods Modderrivier faced Farm Foods Christiana, beating the northern team 3-0 in a penalty shootout. Kyto won the semi-final against GWK Modderrivier with 3 points to 1.

Sergio Olivier (Farm Foods Modderrivier no. 6) was named Player of the Tournament because of his consistent performance helping his team win the big prize and scoring a goal during the final.

Sunshine, good music and tense soccer made the day a huge success. The committee can’t wait to see all of you there next year, supporting your area’s team!
