Dit is vir my moeilik om te glo dat ons alweer nóg ʼn jaar moet groet, maar hier is ons nou.

In my kop voel dit asof dit nog Maart moet wees, en terselfdertyd voel Maart soos eeue gelede. Ek het een keer ʼn verduideliking gehoor vir hoekom tyd ál vinniger verby gaan hoe ouer ʼn mens word. As jy 10 jaar oud is, is jou persepsie van 10 jaar ʼn leeftyd – dit beslaan jou hele lewe. Wanneer jy 20 word, is 10 jaar slegs die helfte van jou lewe. Jou persepsie van 10 jaar is ewe skielik met die helfte kleiner. As jy 30 word, is dit maar ʼn derde, en op 40 is dit maar ʼn kwart. Tyd vlieg nie noodwendig vinniger om nie, maar jou ervaring daarvan maak dat dit korter voel.
Hoe stop ʼn mens hierdie tyd-trein wat al hoe vinniger ry en momentum opbou?
When I got married, someone gave me the advice to put out dedicated moments during the wedding. Moments where my husband and I would sneak away, take a breath and take in everything that’s happening. A moment to appreciate the event. Years after, this helped to remember special experiences that I was likely to forget as time went on.
As a GWK family, we don’t stop often enough to take it all in – to celebrate a recent victory, to congratulate our team members on their success, or to just give ourselves a pat on the back for pulling off something that made us doubt ourselves. We work against time and against deadlines, and we neglect these special moments because there is always something new that has to be done, a new project or deadline to focus on. And the result is that we forget the numerous achievements the wonderful people of GWK accomplish every day.
So. Ek dink ons moet tyd maak. Ek klink al soos ʼn plaat wat vashaak hieroor, maar dit is omdat ek ewe skuldig is. Wanneer ʼn kollega se trots-liggie so helder skyn dat dit moeilik is om dit mis te kyk, gee applous vir sy of haar prestasie. Vat ʼn oomblik om trots terug te kyk na jou eie afgehandelde projek. Moenie dat die lewe se jaag of die tyd wat weghol, maak dat jy vergeet hoe fantasties jy en jou kollegas éintlik is nie.
