Tournament Information
Tournament Format
You and your Partner are a Team. Each Flight consists of six (6) Teams. Flights are determined by the accumulative total of handicap index. The difference in each flight will be minimal. As a result of last-minute cancellations, it is possible that there may be some flights of five (5) Teams. In those Flights, each Team would play one match against par.
Match Play
Each flight will play a "Round Robin", consisting of five Nine-Hole Matches. Matches will be better ball of two, played at 90% of Handicap. The low handicap player in each match will be at zero strokes and the other players in the match will get strokes based on the lowest player’s handicap. Points will be totaled at the end of each nine-hole match; plus, points for the winner of each hole, minus points for the loser of each hole, zero points for ties. Flight winners will be the teams with the highest combined plus points in their flight after all five nine-hole matches are complete. In case of a forfeit, two points will be awarded. One team member may play another Team, except in the championship playoff. Any team player who is late cannot participate in a hole if any member of his group has hit his second shot on that hole. It is important to remember that every hole counts. Your last shot on your last hole has a possible influence on your position in your flight.
Scoring and Handicaps
Members and Guests will play at 90% of their USGA Handicap based on their handicap index as an average of handicap index since November 1. Strokes in each match will be based on the lowest handicap in the foursome. Pick up your marked score card for each nine-hole match at the tournament score board. Please exchange cards and keep your opponent's scores. At the end of each nine-hole match, the scorekeeper will sign the card, have it attested and turn it in at the score board. If you have another match to play, pick up your new card, which will indicate your next opponent and your starting hole. The handicap stroke differential between teammates cannot exceed 12. If greater than 12, it will be adjusted to 12.
Tees
All play will be from the Tournament Tees, with the exception of players who the Committee has approved to participate from the Alternate Tees. The Championship Shootout will be played from the Tournament Tees
Tournament Information
Flight Winners
In case of a tie in points for the flight winner, the winning team will be determined by how you played against the team or teams you tied. If there is still a tie, the winner will be determined by matching cards on the hole on which you started. The first team to have won a hole will be deemed the flight winner.
Championship Shootout Format
The tournament shootout champion will be the team with the lowest total net score (50% of the combined handicaps at 100%), following a three-hole, alternate shot playoff scheduled for 1:30 pm Sunday. All flight winners will participate unless one of the members of a flight’s winning team is absent or is unable to play because of illness or injury. In that case, the second-place team in that flight will participate. If there is a tie for second place in that flight, the team will be selected as shown, under “Flight Winners” above. When the first-place team has been determined, a chip-off by both team- mates will determine second, third and fourth place teams in the tournament. Each player will hit a drive and then select the one they would like to play. From that point on, they must play an alternate shot format. Holes for the Playoff will be 10,17 and 18. If there is a tie, the teams will return to 18 for a sudden victory playoff. If still tied, they will return to 18, and continue to play that hole until a winner is determined. Any ties for 3rd -5th Place will be determined by a Chip Off.
Pace of Play
It is every player’s responsibility to maintain a proper pace of play. The following Pace of Play Guidelines will apply:
• If a group falls behind on time and loses position on the course ( A hole or more behind) they will be put on the clock.
• Any player in a group “On the Clock” who takes over 40 seconds to play a shot when its their turn will receive a bad time.
• The hole will automatically be given to the opposing team and the group will go to the next tee box.
The Committee strongly encourages all participants to maintain a proper Pace of Play so that all participants can enjoy the event.
Tournament Information
Caddie’s/Spectators:
No caddie’s or spectators are allowed on the course during tournament play with the exception of the shootout on Sunday afternoon but limited to the cart path area.
Forfeits:
Failure to appear - if a team fails to appear for a match, they will be assessed minus 2 points and their opponent will receive plus 2 points.
Injury:
If a player is injured on the course during play and cannot continue his partner must finish the match for the team.
Surrender:
If a team surrenders at any point in a match, for any reason (including injury), the point total at the time of surrender will be determined by the member guest committee and club pro.
Pairings:
Flights are determined by combined team index. However, a maximum 12 stroke handicap is in play between partners.
Rain Delay:
Suspension of play will be indicated by siren. Mark your ball immediately [do not finish the hole] and seek shelter. Future play will be determined by the committee. An incomplete Fri/Sat match will resume the next day at the point where play was suspended. That match will be completed prior to starting the next round. A minimum of 2 rounds must be played to determine flight winners.
Tournament Rules
Obstructions:
Irrigation boxes/ concrete slabs are immovable obstructions. Free relief for stance and swing within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief, no nearer to hole.
Mulch areas around trees: no relief.
Out of Bounds:
Defined by white stakes and white lines. The driving range, and areas left of canals are out of bounds. The 9th hole is O.B. when playing #10.
Rangefinders:
USGA approved range finders only
Handicaps:
The committee reserves the right to arbitrarily adjust any competitor’s handicap it deems to be inequitable.
Cell Phones / Noise Producing Devices:
Cell phones and all other audible devices must be “off ” or “silent” while on the course. Any team receiving an audible call or producing any form of electronically produced noise shall forfeit the hole being played to their opponent.
Music During Play:
The committee has decided to allow participants to play music at a volume that will not disturb other players. Additionally, ALL members of the foursome must agree to allow the
“Immovable Obstructions Close to the Putting Green.”
o The ball must lie through the green; closely mown area, fairway height of cut or less (not in a bunker, rough or penalty area); and
o The immovable obstruction (sprinkler head) must be on or within two clublengths of the putting green; and
o The immovable obstruction must be within two club-lengths of the ball; and
o The immovable obstruction must intervene on the line of play between the ball and the hole.
If and only if, all of the criteria above apply for intervention on our line of play, then the player may lift and drop the ball at the nearest point of relief that is not nearer the hole, avoids intervention and is not in a hazard or on a putting green. Please note that the ball is not dropped within one club-length of that point of relief; rather at the nearest point of relief. The one club-length is used for standard relief, not intervention relief.
Stones in Bunkers are Movable Obstructions
Free relief is provided from staked trees if they effect stance, lie or area of intended swing; there is no relief for line of play.
All on course flower beds/planting areas are considered penalty areas. The margin of the penalty area is defined by the grass edge if not marked.
