Residence life is a significant part of school life, where important lessons are to be learned. In order to pursue a fulfilling residence life, there is a need to cooperate and create a positive living environment.

Mattresses must be placed on beds. Beds cannot not be placed next to each other. For safety reasons, the beds must not block the door.

Each student receives a set of two computer coded and recorded keys with key chains from each office after receiving and signing a Key Agreement upon checking into the House. One is for the student’s room and mailbox. The second key is for the student’s individual lock box. Duplication of keys is strictly prohibited. Students should carry their keys with them at all times to prevent a lock out and to prevent misplacing them. Keys are collected before winter and summer vacations.

Students should store valuables in this small box mounted in their room’s wall. Each student will be issued the key to the lock box. It is the student’s responsibility to place all valuables in the security lock box. The School cannot be held responsible for anything lost or damaged.
4) Keys (for Room, Mailbox, & Security Lock Box)
From the third lockout, the students will receive a night round check. The same procedure follows for those who leave their rooms unlocked.
Students need to dispense of their own garbage in the dumpsters outside Recycling: There are blue bins on each floor designated for recycling plastic bottles. There are large bins outside of the House rotunda designated for recycling cardboard and paper.
When you have received the room key and safe key, please check to make sure that they are secured in the key ring. After receiving the two keys, the student will be held responsible for lost or damaged keys.
② Rooms may not be subdivided by furniture or wall hangings so as to prevent clear access or view from the door to the window.
ii. 2nd Time: $30 per key
When students move in to the House at the beginning of the year, the Resident Advisers will inspect their rooms. When students moves out of the room at the end of the year, the room will be inspected. The room is expected to be left in the same condition as when the students moved in. Damages to the room may be charged to the student.
For reasons of fire safety, as well as maintenance, the following rules are in effect:

ii. All electric extension cords must be UL approved and must not be laid under rugs and/or walking areas.
iv. Clotheslines are strictly prohibited.
v. The insertion of nails, screws, and other objects into the walls or furniture is strictly prohibited, as is hanging items or posters on walls or doors. This also includes special tapes and glues used to hang posters.
iii. Nothing may be hung on or attached to any fire safety device (for example, smoke detectors and sprinklers).

One telephone is assigned to each student.
① No items which produce heat, for the purpose of cooking or warmth will be allowed. These include heaters and cooking appliances like rice cookers , microwaves, and hot pots.
For lost keys, the student should immediately contact a Resident Staff or directly to the Administration Office. The proper form must be completed in order to receive a replacement set of keys. There is a fee for lost keys: (Key losses are counted over the course of the student’s time at Keio. It does not reset at the end of each year.)

7) Room Maintenance
If there are any damages or complaints, the students should report it immediately to the RAs on duty. If repairs are necessary, a maintenance work order should be completed.

Keio Academy provides access to the internet for academic purposes. Should students use the internet for purposes other than those approved by the School, access privileges will be revoked. When using the internet students should follow the rules of the “Internet Access Polices” defined by The IT Office. The School reserves the right to terminate any internet access if misused by students. This includes violations of schedule, lights out, harassment policies, connections to inappropriate and/ or unhealthy content, as well as, obtaining or offering software or other files illegally.
In addition, illegal download of music, movies and network game (AGE, CS, etc.) are also not allowed. Please follow the IT Office’s Internet Usage Policy.

The School reserves the right to remove or disconnect telephones, which are misused by students. Misuse includes violations of schedule and lights out, as well as harassment policies.
The following is a list of items, which are prohibited in the House. Resident Staff reserves the right to prohibit any items deemed inappropriate or dangerous. Students are subject to discipline for possession of any prohibited items listed below. The punishment for possessing a prohibited item will vary depending on the nature of the item, as well as the circumstances, for example repeated offences. In such cases, the RA’s recommendation will be taken into consideration. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

2) The School encourages students to be inside the House during the hours of darkness. Accordingly, the House doors are locked at 1900 every night. Everyone must enter the House through the rotunda doors. Students are also encouraged to walk with other students at all times. For safety reasons, at night, students should remain within the lighted areas on campus.
6. Night Check / Lights Out
The gym is available for student use as long as it does not interfere with the practices of sports teams but only with adult supervision. Open gym hours will be posted.
Study Hour is held Sunday through Friday from 1900 to 2130. All students must be ready to start Study Hour at 1900 sharp. Study Hours must be used for study only. During this time, telephones are shut off. Doors must remain open during Study Hour. Visitation during study hour is not allowed. No sound should be heard in the hallways. Anyone who disrupts Study Hours on a regular basis can expect to be disciplined. At the end of Study Hours, students are not permitted to leave the House. Students should remain in their own rooms except when given permission by the Head of House or RA to go to House Lounge to study or to talk.

Desk lamps are permitted until 2300, but all other lights must be turned off. (Scheduling exceptions may be made depending on semester examinations.)

6) Students should use proper safety equipment for sports and recreation. Helmets, kneepads, eye protection, etc. are recommended for sports that are dangerous without protective gear.

3) At the sound of a fire alarm, all students must evacuate the House immediately. Students must keep hallways clear of all items for a safe exit. Items left in the hallways will be confiscated and discarded.
7) In case of an emergency, carefully follow the instructions of the RAs or other officials (i.e. police/fire officials). Fire procedures will be taught and practiced during the entire time students live in the House.

Overnight Trip PermissionOvernight departures must be approved three days in advance. Students should submit the form on KANYOS for approval. Students must have their permission forms approved first by their parents, and finally by their Head of House before they are allowed to leave for an overnight departure. (For example, for a Friday overnight stay, the student’s request must be in by Tuesday night.) Late requests may not be honored. Failure to do so will lead to Penalty 1.
Rules of resident life exist in order to maintain a safe, comfortable residence life for all students. Failure to adhere to the rules will lead to disciplinary action.
6. TheManhattan12thgraders with permission from their parents or 11th graders with day trip permission may visit Manhattan, provided the Head of House approves.
Accumulation of Accountability checks, any violations of the Student Conduct guidelines as well as other actions deemed inappropriate by the Dean of Boarding, may lead to a penalty. Boarders should note particularly the importance of a properly completed Day Trip or Overnight permission form and sign in and sign out procedures before leaving the House.
Parents may provide a statement of general permission for students to attend specific geographical areas for sports, tutoring, music lessons, and other extracurricular activities on a regular basis. The Dean of Boarding and the Head of House reserve the right to limit weekend outings of students with low grades, academic difficulties and/or disciplinary trouble.
4. DayFormsTrip
Keio Academy students, who are younger than 18 years old, are prohibited from going onto the Manhattanville College property without a supervising adult. Students older than 18 years old may go without an adult but must carry their Keio student ID at all times.
Students without specific overnight or special permission must return to campus and sign in by the required return time. If a student has the Head of House’s permission to return after the required return time, he/ she may return at the time specified on his/her permission form. If any student, for any purpose, arrives after the hour at which he/she is supposed to sign in, he/she must notify by telephone or fax to tell the Head of House or RA on duty of his/her late arrival plans and when he/she will arrive. A telephone call and close cooperation will save you much trouble if you cannot meet the School schedule. REMEMBER; ALWAYS SIGN IN BY THE REQUIRED RETURN TIME UNLESS YOU HAVE SPECIFIC WRITTEN PERMISSION TO SIGN IN LATER.
6. Disciplinary Policy
Permission and Overnight Trip Permission Forms should be submitted by KANYOS. Forms should be submitted as soon as possible since parental approval is required prior to House approval. The student will not be able to leave campus without approval from their parents, as well as the House.

2) Commuters should coordinate with their parents to be picked up. They must leave from the School by 1915 Monday Friday, and by 2015 on Weekends and Holidays.

The student they are visiting must at all times escort their visitors. All visitors must sign in/ out at the Gate (Post 5). Guests may not enter unescorted. Visitors are expected to observe our no smoking policy and other campus and residence life rules. Only parents and commuter students can visit House rooms. Male visitors are not allowed in female Houses and female visitors are not allowed in male Houses (exceptions for family members).
7. CommutersDriving and boarders are not allowed to drive on the campus. No boarders may ride in an automobile operated by commuters or any licensed driver under the age of 21.
2. Disrespectful or harmful actions are strictly prohibited: Bullying, either verbal or physical, that disregards the self esteem of others is unacceptable. Disrespectful or harmful actions may include, but are not limited to, derogatory statements, discriminatory comments, racial slurs, crude language, unwelcome physical advances, unwarranted verbal remarks, theft, violence, possession or use of weapons, cruelty, intimidation, bullying, humiliation, gambling, obscenity, obscene books, tapes and pictures, misuse of social media and/or cyberbulling as well as any other acts which the Resident Staff deems disrespectful or harmful are strictly prohibited.
2. Food Deliveries
On weekdays, visitors are to sign in at the main office and receive a visitor’s pass, which must be visible at times. Please verify visitation times with Administration.
n STANDARDS & EXPECTATIONS OF BEHAVIOR
Residence life is a major part of student life at Keio Academy of New York, and each student has the responsibility to treat the people and property of Keio Academy with proper care and respect.
1. Students are expected to act with honesty: Dishonesty may include, but is not limited to such acts as: lying, cheating, plagiarizing, forgery, and deceitful behavior. If a student breaks a rule, the student is expected to admit honestly that he/she broke the rule. A student with another student breaking a rule should attempt to either stop the friend or be prepared to share responsibility for breaking the rule.
4) At all times, commuters are required to sign in and out of each House on each and every visit and state where and with whom they are visiting.
Any students aware of or taking part in use/abuse of any of the above items should take the initiative by informing a Head of House or RA.
3. Students must not possess nor use any type of illegal or prescribed drugs, drug paraphernalia, tobacco products, or alcohol:
The following section describes the standards and expectations of behavior, which will help to create a safe and healthy environment. It is important to remember that students are expected to live up to these standards and expectations at all times, including when he/she is off campus. Any behavior, which goes against these standards and expectations may be disciplined. It is important to remember how one person’s actions may potentially affect others.
n GRADUATES AND OTHER VISITORS
No deliveries are allowed from Monday to Friday. Saturday (1100 2) to Sunday (1100 1800), you may order food deliveries. Students should anticipate the time of arrival for their food deliveries, and be waiting in the rotunda for the delivery person with appropriate tips and manner. Delivery pick up location may be changed in the future.
3) Commuters are not allowed to remain on campus or in the House without specific permission from the Head of House or RA. Commuters wishing to visit at any other time or stay in the House or on campus after hours must obtain permission from the Dean of Boarding or the RAs on duty.
On weekends, no visitors are allowed on campus. Parents are permitted on campus as long as the Resident Staff is notified in advance.

3. As students leave their floor quietly, calmly, and in an orderly fashion, they should knock on each room to make sure that the entire floor is awake and aware of the alarm.
