CHAPTERI GENERALREGULATIONS

Article1 KeioAcademyofNewYork(hereinafterreferredtoas“theSchool")asa componentofaneducationalcorporation,KeioGijuku,whichintegrates elementarythroughhighereducation,shallprovideseniorhighschoolcoeducationcompatiblewithKeio'seducationalaims;ittherebystrivesto cultivateandencouragea spiritoffreedomandindependencewithinits students.

Article2 TheSchoolshallbenamedKeioAcademyofNewYork,orKeioGijukuNew YorkGakuin(Koto-bu)inJapanese.

Article3 TheSchoolshallbelocatedinHarrison,WestchesterCounty,NewYork, USA

CHAPTERII COURSESTRUCTURE&CAPACITY

Article4 TheSchoolshallprovidecoursesofinstructionwithinthefollowingstructures:

(1) Full-timegeneralhighschooleducationwithamaximumstudentcapacity of420

(2)Studentcapacityofapproximately30foreachclass

CHAPTERIII COURSELENGTH,GRADES,TERMS&HOLIDAYS

Article5 Afour-yearperiodshall benormallyrequiredofastudenttocompletethe courseworkoftheSchool.Athree-yearperiodshallberequiredofastudent enrolledintheSchool'sgrade10.

Article6 TheAcademicYearshallcommenceonSeptember1andlastthroughAugust 31ofthefollowingyear.

Article7 (1)EachAcademicYearshallconsistoftwosemesters:

FirstTerm:September1-LateJanuary

SecondTerm:LateJanuary-August31

(2)Withinoneacademic year,35weeksshallbenormallyallocatedfor instruction.

Article8 (1)Noclassesshallbeconductedonthefollowingdays:

1.Sundays

2.LaborDay(firstMondayinSeptember)

3.ColumbusDay(secondMondayinOctober)

4.Thanksgivingholidays(5daysstartingfromfourthWednesdayin November)

5.Mr.YukichiFukuzawa’sBirthday(January10)

6.Dr.MartinLutherKing,Jr.Day(thirdMondayinJanuary)

7.Presidents’Day(thirdMondayinFebruary)

8.KeioFoundationDay(April23)

9.MemorialDay(lastMondayinMay)

10.JuneteenthDay(June19)

11.IndependenceDay(July4)

12.WinterVacation(certainperiodfromlateDecembertoearlyJanuary; tobedecidedbytheHeadmaster)

(2)Whendeemednecessaryforeducationalpurposes,classesmaytakeplace duringtheSchoolholidays,thepreviousclausenotwithstanding.

(3)Incaseofemergency, disastersbothnaturalandmanmade,calamities,or anyotheroccasionswhenconductingnormalinstructiondeemed inappropriateordangerousbytheHeadmaster,classesmaybecanceled.

CHAPTERIV CURRICULUM,EVALUATION,GRADUATION&PROMOTION

Article9 ThecurriculumoftheSchoolshallconsistofcourses,subjects,andspecial activities,andarestipulatedinaseparatemanualtobedistributedtostudents andparents.

Article10 (1)UponcompletionofthecourseworkattheendofeveryAcademicYear eachstudentshallbeevaluated.Theevaluationwillbebaseduponthe student'sacademic achievementsduringthatyear.Studentswhostudiedin anexchangeprogramsatotherschoolsasanexceptioncanbeevaluatedin themiddleoftheAcademicYear.

(2)Regulationsgoverningevaluationsforeachsubjectarestipulatedina separatemanual.

Article11 (1)Whenastudentisrecognizedtohavesuccessfullycompletedallcourse workasstipulatedinthepreviousarticle,thestudentshallbeeligiblefor graduationand grantedadiploma.

(2)ThosegraduatesoftheSchoolrecognizedbytheHeadmasterasqualified shallberecommendedtooneoftheFacultiesatKeioUniversity(Japan).

Article12 Astudent,duetoleaveofabsenceorotherreasons,unabletoearnnecessary creditsasrequiredbytheSchool,maybedeniedpromotiontothenextgrade andmaybeaskedtoremaininthesamegradeforthefollowingschool year.

Article13 Regulationsconcerningtakingcourses/subjects,recognitionofcredits, promotiontothenextgrade,denialofpromotion,andgraduationshallbeset forthinaseparatemanual.

Article14 InordertostudyatotherschoolsintheUSorabroad,studentsmusthave permissionfromtheHeadmasterandcomplywiththeseparatelystipulated regulations.

CHAPTERV QUALIFICATIONFORAPPLYING,ENTRANCE,EXPULSION,

Article15 ThosewhoareeligibletoapplytotheSchoolarethosewhosatisfythe followingconditions:

(1) (Eligibilitytoapplyforthe9thgrade)Thosewhowillhave completedthe8th gradeoftheprimaryeducationorthe9thgradeofthe secondaryeducationeitherinsideoroutsideJapan(Japaneseschools overseasinclusive)byAugust31oftheyearofenrollment.

(2) (Eligibilitytoapplyforthe10thgrade)Thosewhowillhave completedthe9thorthe10thgradeofthesecondaryeducationeitherinside oroutsideJapan(Japaneseschoolsoverseasinclusive)byAugust31ofthe yearofenrollment.

Article16 Studentsmustapplyforadmissionaccordingtotheadmissionprocess separatelystipulated.

Article17 Applicantsstipulatedinthepreviousarticleshallbeevaluatedthroughthe EntranceExaminationprocess.

Article18 ThosewhograduatedfromoneofKeio'sjuniorhighschoolsandwishtoenter theSchoolas10thgraderarepermittedtodosoonlyintheyearinwhichthey hadgraduated.Suchadmission,however,issubjectedto(1)obtainmentof recommendationfromtheheadmasterofthejuniorhighschooland(2) completionoftheinterviewconductedandjudgedsatisfactorybythe HeadmasteroftheSchool.

Article19 ThosewhoarecurrentlyenrolledinoneofKeio'sjuniororseniorhighschools andwishtoentertheSchoolarepermittedtodosoinaccordancewithArticle 15above.Suchadmission,however,issubjectedto(1)obtainmentof recommendationfromtheheadmasterofthejuniororseniorhighschooland (2)completionoftheinterviewconductedandjudgedsatisfactorybythe HeadmasteroftheSchool.

Article20 ApplicantswhohavesuccessfullycompletedtheExaminationshallgothrough

theentranceformalitiesseparatelystipulatedbythedatedesignated.Incase suchformalitiesarenotmadebytheduedate,permissiontoentertheSchool shallberevoked.

Article21 Whenastudent,duetoillnessorotherreasons,wishestoleave,takealeaveof absence,ortransfertoanotherschool,his/herguardianmustnotifytheSchool bysubmittingthenecessaryformsstatingthereasonsforsuchleaveandshall obtainpermissionfromtheSchool,whichpermissionshallnotbe unreasonablywithheld.

Article22 WhenastudenthaslefttheSchoolduetoArticle21butdesirestoreturn,the studentmaybeallowedtocomebacktoanappropriategradeafterdue examinationandinvestigationbytheSchool.

Article23 Whenastudent,duetoillnessorotherreasons,willbeunabletoattendclasses formorethan3months,his/herguardianmustnotifytheSchoolbysubmitting thenecessaryformsstatingthedesiretotake aleaveofabsence.Tuitionand otherfeesmustbepaidbythedeadlinesetbytheSchool.

Article24 WhenastudentdesirestoreturntotheSchoolafteraleaveofabsenceas stipulatedinthepreviousarticle,his/herparentorguardianmustsubmit necessaryformsstatingthecircumstancesandshallobtainduepermission fromtheSchool.

Article25 (1) Inprinciple,astudentmayremainattheSchoolforamaximumof5 academic years,exceptastudentenrolledintheSchool'sgrade10may remainattheSchoolforamaximumof4academicyears.

(2)Maximumnumberofacademic yearsasstipulatedinthepreviousclause excludesperiod(s)ofleaveofabsence.

CHAPTERVI TUITION,ENTRANCEEXAMINATION&OTHERFEES

Article26 Feesrequiredforadmissionofastudentareasfollows:

TuitionFee(Payableeveryacademic year): US$32,700.00

AdmissionFee: US$ 4,000.00

EntranceExaminationFee: US$ 500.00

FacilitiesFee(Payableeveryacademic year):US$ 2,700.00

Theforegoingfeesaresubjecttoannualreviewandmaybechangedatthesolediscretionof theHeadmasteratanytime.StudentsarerequiredtopayTuitionand FacilitiesFeeseachAcademicYear.

Article27 ThepaymentoftheTuitionFeecanonlybemadeintwoinstallmentseach year(attheendofJulyandtheendofJanuary)althoughpaymentofthefull amountatonetimemaybemade.Innoevent,however,shallfullpaymentbe madelaterthanJanuary31.

Article28 FeesforStudentGovernmentandforParents'Associationmaybecollectedas necessary.

Article29 Feesforstudentcertificatesmayberequiredasnecessary.

Article30 Anyfeespaidshallnotbereturnedforanyreasonwhatsoever.

Article31 (1)Thosewhohavenotpaidtuitionandfeesrequiredbytheduedatewillbe chargedalatefeeinadditiontotherequiredtuitionandfees.

(2) Thosewhohavenotpaidtuitionandfeesrequiredbytheduedateforover threemonthsmaybeexpelled.

CHAPTERVII GUARDIAN

Article32 (1)Student'sguardian(s)shallbeeitherofthefollowing:

1.Parents,person(s)inparentalauthority,orlegalguardian(s).

2.Brother(s)/Sister(s)orrelative(s)whoaremajors.

(2)Guardian(s)shalltakeresponsibilityforthestudent'sschoollifeand educationandshallbesupportiveintheSchool'seducationalactivities.

Article33 (1) Whenguardian(s)transfertheirdomicile,changetheiraddress/name,or havepersonalreasons,theyshallpromptlyinformtheSchoolofthematter withtheprescribedform.

(2)Incasethechangestipulatedinthepreviousclauseiscausedbydeath, missing,incompetence,orbankruptcy,guardian(s)mustbechanged.

(3)Intheeventaguardianisdeemednotappropriateinthesolediscretionof theSchool,theSchoolmayrequestthattheguardianbechanged.

CHAPTERVIII FACULTY&STAFF

Article34 (1)Thefollowingemployeesshallbehired: Headmaster,AssistantHeadmaster,Full-TimeFaculty,Part-TimeFaculty, BusinessOfficer,AdministrationStaff,ProfessionalFacultyandStaff (counselor,nurse,librarianetc.),andOthersneeded.

(2)HeadmastershallcontroltheaffairsoftheSchoolandsuperviseall employees.

(3)AssistantHeadmastershallassisttheHeadmasterandcoordinateschool duties.

(4)Otheremployeesshallperformtheirownduties.

CHAPTERIX REWARDS&DISCIPLINE

Article35 Thosestudentswhohaveexhibitedoutstandingacademicperformance, excellenceineducationalactivitiesotherthaninspecificsubjects,good conducttobeemulatedbyfellowstudents,excellentattendancerecords,and/ oranyotherreasonstoelevatethereputationoftheSchool,mayinthe

School'ssolediscretionbehonored.

Article36 (1)WhenastudentwillfullydisregardstheSchool'sregulationsorothercodes oftheSchool,he/shemaybesubjecttodiscipline.

(2)Theformsofdisciplineincludeexpulsion,suspension,reprimandand others.

(3)Expulsionofastudentmaybeorderedwhenoneofthefollowingis applicable:

1.Exhibitsmisconductwithnosignofimprovement.

2.Exhibitsacademicfailureanddifficultyincompletingcourseworkat theSchool.

3.Constantlyfailstoattendclasseswithoutacceptablereason.

4.DisruptstheSchoolorbehavesinamannerjudgedbytheSchoolinits solediscretiontobeinappropriateorinconsistentwiththeSchoolor thestudents'interests.

Article37 Whenastudent,duetoillnessorotherreasons,maybejudgedtothreatenthe well-beingofotherstudents,theSchoolmayrequirethatthestudenttobe absentfromtheSchool.

CHAPTERX DORMITORY

Article38 (1)Dormitoryfacilitiesarelocatedoncampus. (2)Dormitoryregulationsarestipulatedinaseparatesection.
