5) Whenyouhavereceivedtheroomkeyandsafekey,pleasechecktomakesurethattheyaresecuredin

g Room&HouseMaintenance

1) WhenstudentsmoveintotheHouseatthebeginningoftheyear,theResidentFacultymemberswill inspecttheirrooms

2) Whenstudentsmoveoutoftheroomattheendoftheyear,theroomandHousefacilitieswill beinspected.RoomsandHousefacilitiesareexpectedtobeleftinthesameconditionaswhenthe studentsmovedin.

3) Ifthereareanydamagesorcomplaints,thestudentsshouldreportitimmediatelytotheirHeadof HouseorRFondutysothattheycansubmitamaintenanceworkorder.

4) StudentsareresponsibleforanydamagetotheirroomorHousefacilities Thosedamagesmaybe chargedtostudents

5) Intheeventofegregiousand/orintentionaldamagetofacilitiesorequipmentwhichisavailabletoall residents(ie washingmachine),allresidentsofthatrespectiveHousemaybechargedtocoverrepairs ifthepersonresponsibledoesnottakeresponsibility

h. FireSafety

Forreasonsoffiresafety,aswellasmaintenance,thefollowingrulesareineffect:

1) Thepathfromthedoortothewindowmustbekeptclearofallgoodsandfurniture

2) Nounapproveditemswhichproduceheat,forthepurposeofcookingorwarmthwillbeallowed These includeheatersandcookingapplianceslikericecookers,microwaves,andhotpots

3) Roomsmaynotbesubdividedbyfurnitureorwallhangingsthatpreventclearaccessorviewfromthe doortothewindow.

4) AllelectricextensioncordsmustbeUL-approvedandmustnotbelaidunderrugsand/orwalkingareas.

5) Nothingmaybehungonorattachedtoanyfiresafetydevice(forexample,smokedetectorsand

sprinklers)

6) Clotheslinesarestrictlyprohibited

7) NoLEDstripsonwallsorceiling.

8) Theinsertionofnails,screws,andotherobjectsintothewallsorfurnitureisstrictlyprohibited,asare hangingitemsorpostersonwallsordoors.Thisalsoincludesspecialtapesandgluesusedtohang posters.PleaseuseCommandPostStripsfrom3Mormountingputtytohangpostersonwalls.

9) Nopetsareallowed

i InternetUsage

1) KeioAcademyprovidesaccesstotheinternetforacademicpurposes.Ifstudentsusetheinternetfor purposesotherthanthoseapprovedbytheSchool,accessprivilegesmayberevoked.

2) Whenusingtheinternetstudentsshouldfollowtherulesofthe“InternetAccessPolicies”definedby TheITOffice.

3) TheSchoolreservestherighttoterminateanyinternetaccessifmisusedbystudents Thisincludes violationsofschedule,lightsout,harassmentpolicies,connectionstoinappropriateand/orunhealthy content,aswellas,obtainingorofferingsoftwareorotherfilesillegally Illegaldownloadofmusic, movies,andnetworkgamesarealsonotallowed

4) PleasefollowtheITOffice’sInternetUsagePolicy.Byfollowingtherulesabove,internetusagewillbe grantedduringthetimesbelow:

k HealthandSafetyInspections

1) ToensureasafeandhealthylivingenvironmentintheKeioAcademyboardingfacilities,theDeanof Boardingwillauthorizeperiodicboardingroomandcommonareahealthandsafetyinspections

2) Atleastonceperterm,theDeanofBoardingandHeadsofHouse,mayconductinspectionsofboarding roomsandcommonareastoensurecompliancetoallKeioAcademyofNewYorkrulesand regulations,andWestchesterCountyhealth,safetyandfirecodes

3) Toensureaccountability,maintainmutualtrustandrespectforprivacy Inprinciple,theseinspections willbeconductedwithnolessthan2ResidentFacultypresent boardingroomdoorswillremainopen andstudentswillbepresentintheroom Whendeemednecessaryandwiththeconsentofthestudent, theDeanofBoarding,ortheirrepresentativesmayinspectthecontentsofdesks,closetsand refrigerators

4) Underextraordinarycircumstances,andwithintenttoimmediatelyrestoresafetyandrectifyany unlawfulorprohibitedactivity,theschoolreservestherighttoinspectthecontentsofastudent’sroom andbelongingswithoutthepresenceofthestudentnecessary.

5) Violationsofhealth,safetyandfirecodesand/orrulesandregulationswillbeassessedaccordinglyand maybereferredtostudentaffairsfordisciplinarymeasures.

IV. GENERALSAFETY

Safetyisofgreatimportance Studentsarealwaysexpectedtousegoodjudgment Studentsmustnottake actionsthatmayputthemselvesorothersindanger

GeneralSafetyMeasures

a Studentsmustbeinsideresidentialbuildingsaftercurfew Accordingly,theHousedoorsarelockedat20:00 everynight Afterthistime,everyonemustentertheresidentialbuildingsthroughthemainrotundadoors

b. ProhibitedareasincludethefieldsbehindNorthandSouthHouses,pastthesecuritypost(Post5),aswellas theareaorroadleadingtoManhattanvilleUniversity.Studentsfoundoffcampusorintheprohibitedareas withoutpermissionwillbedisciplined.

c. BoardersmustbeinsidetheirHouseafter20:00,withexceptionsforschooleventsandvarsityawaygames. OnSaturdays,SundaysandHolidaysstudentsmustreturntocampusandsigninnolaterthan18:00ifthey arenotwithparentsorapprovedchaperones Ifstudentsarewithparentsoranapprovedchaperonethe curfewis20:00

f Studentsshouldusepropersafetyequipmentforsportsandrecreation Helmets,kneepads,eyeprotection, etc arerecommendedforsportsthataredangerouswithoutprotectivegear

g. Incaseofanemergency,carefullyfollowtheinstructionsoftheResidentFaculty,securitystafforother officials(i.e.police/fireofficials).Fireprocedureswillbetaughtandpracticedthroughouttheacademic year.

2. Fire&BuildingSafety

a Inaccordancewithlocalordinancesandtoensureyear-roundsafety,fireandbuildingsafetyinspectionsof theboardinghouseswillbeconductedregularly,includingduringtheannualfireinspectionbythe jurisdictionalfiremarshalandbyresidentfacultyorfacilitymaintenancestaffaftertheboarderscheckout

b. Forreasonsoffiresafety,aswellasmaintenance,thefollowingrulesareineffect:

1) Thepathfromthedoortothewindowmustbekeptclearofallgoodsandfurniture!

2) Nounapproveditemsthatproduceheatforthepurposeofcookingorwarmthwillbeallowedin boardingrooms!

3) Roomsmaynotbesubdividedbyfurnitureorwallhangingstopreventclearaccessorviewfromthe doortothewindow!

1. GeneralStandardsofBehavior

a ResidencelifeisamajorpartofstudentlifeatKeioAcademyofNewYork,andeachstudenthasthe responsibilitytotreatthepeopleandpropertyofKeioAcademywithpropercareandrespect

Itisimportanttorememberthatstudentsareexpectedtoalwaysliveuptothehigheststandardsand expectations,includingwhenhe/sheisoffcampus.Anybehavior,whichgoesagainstthesestandardsand expectationsmaybedisciplined.Itisimportanttorememberhowoneperson’sactionsmaypotentially affectothers.Thefollowingsectiondescribesthestandardsandexpectationsofbehavior,whichwillhelpto createasafeandhealthyenvironment:
