■ Requirements for Students to be Recommended to the School of Medicine, the Faculty of Science and Technology, or the Faculty of PharmacyatKeioUniversity
To be recommended to the School of Medicine, the Faculty of Science and Technology, or the Faculty of Pharmacy at Keio University, students must major in science in the 12th grade and satisfythefollowingconditionsbothinscienceandmathematics.
ScienceRequirements
1. All students choosing to major in science must complete introductory laboratory-based courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. Courses taken at other institutionscanfulfilltherequirementfortheintroductorylaboratory-basedcoursesas long as they are approvedbytheDepartmentChairperson.Inordertobequalifiedfor asciencemajor:
1) Students must earn the required final grade in the introductory course of 10th grade chemistry andStudentsmustalsofulfillphysicsandbiologyrequirements in11thgrade.(*Pleaseseebelowforadditionalregulations)
2) Students who donotmeettherequiredgradeintheintroductorycoursesmustget permissionfromtheinstructorandtheDepartmentChairperson.
3) Students whoenrollstartingin10thgrade whoseJapaneserequirementsobligate them to take Japanese Language instead of Physics must enroll in an approved laboratory-based physics summer course (typically 6-8 weeks) to fulfill the requirement.

MathematicsRequirements
1. All students choosing to major in Science must pass the mathematics placement test given at the end of the 11th grade. To be eligible to take the placementtest,students mustbelongtoanhonorpre-calculusclass.
2. To be recommended to the School of Medicine, a student must take both Honors Calculus and Linear Algebra and must earn at least a B as the final grade in each of thesetwoclasses.
3. To be recommended to the FacultyofScienceandTechnology,astudentmustearnat leastaC-asthefinalgradeforbothHonorsCalculusandLinearAlgebra.
4. There is no requirement about the final grade of both Honors Calculus and Linear Algebra for the students to be recommended to the Faculty of Pharmacy or the DepartmentofPharmaceuticalScience.
MAKE-UPPOLICY
TheSchoolshallimplementthefollowingpolicyforofferingamakeup,anevaluationofclass participation,andgradingguidelineforthestudent’sabsence.Ifthenumberofabsentperiodsexceeds onethirdofthetotalnumberoftheinstructionperiodsoftheacademicyear,thestudentmustrepeatthe currentgradeorwithdrawfromtheSchoolregardlessofearnedgrades.Notethatthereisnooptionfor thestudentwhobelongstothiscategorytorequestLeaveofAbsencestipulatedintheSchoolRegulation. ForastudentwhodesirestoreturntotheSchoolafteraLeaveofAbsence,permissiontoreturnwillbe grantedaccordingtotheregulation,butthereturndateshallbethebeginningofthenextSchoolyear.A leaveofabsencecanbesubmittedonlyonceduringtheentiredurationofthestudent’senrolmenttothe School.TheduedateofsubmissionoftheformrequestingaleaveofabsenceistheUnitedStatesEastern StandardTime1700oftheweekbeforethescheduledfirstdayofFinalExamination(Forexample,ifthe scheduledfirstdayofFinalExaminationisTuesday,May31,theduedateisTuesday,May24).Unless theformissubmittedtotheSchoolbytheduedate,norequestforaleaveofabsencewillbeaccepted.

■ REQUIREMENTFORPROMOTIONORGRADUATION
1. Students must receive passing grades in all subjects they have taken and earnaGPA of2.0orhigherfortheyearinordertobepromoted.
2. StudentswhoreceivepassinggradesinallsubjectstheyhavetakenandearnaGPAof 1.8 or higher but lower than 2.0 for the year will be promoted with an Academic Warning.
3. Students who receive one or two failing grades and earn a GPA of 2.2orhigherwill be promoted with an Academic Warning only if the failedsubjectsare“satisfactorily made up” during the summer If the student fails to satisfactorily make up the failed subject,theyearmustberepeated.
4. Students who receive one or two failing grades and earn a GPA of 1.8 or higher but lower than 2.2 for the year must be discussedatthepromotion/graduationmeetingin order to make up for the failed subjects. The result of the meeting willbeaproposal to the Headmaster, who will make the final decision. If approval isnotreceived,the year must be repeated. If approval is received, the student will be promoted with an Academic Warning only if the failed subjects are “satisfactorily made up”duringthe summer If astudentfailstosatisfactorilymakeupthefailedsubject,theyearmustbe repeated.
5. Academic Warning meansthattheGPAforthenextyearofastudentconcernedmust be 2.0 or higher in order to be promoted. Otherwise, promotion is discussed in the promotion/graduation meeting, which makes a proposal to the Headmaster The Headmasterwillmakethefinaldecision.

4. The parents of 12th Grade students wishing to be recommended to KeioUniversitymust submit a formal request by KANYOS, with their preference filled, to the Headmaster by the end of April. The announcement regarding the submission ofthisformwillbeposted onKANYOS.
5. Students are allowed to apply to universities, or other institutions of higher learning, outside of Japan by submitting an application form foradmissiontothoseuniversities.In
case they decline the offer of the recommendation to Keio University, they must submit thedeclinationformtotheSchoolbytheendofApriloftheirgraduatingyear
6. OncestudentsarerecommendedtoKeioUniversity,theyarenotallowedtoregisteratany other institutions of higher learning as matriculating students. Recommendation to Keio Universitymaybenullifiedifthestudentisfoundtobeinviolationofthisrule.
7. Students applying for any university, or another institution of higher learning, in Japan, (other than Keio University), must submit aformdecliningadmissiontoKeioUniversity. ThisformshouldbesubmittedtotheSchoolbytheendofApriloftheirgraduatingyear.
8. Students who wishtoberecommendedonlytotheSchoolofMedicineofKeioUniversity can take entrance examinations for any other medical School without withdrawing their name from consideration for recommendationtotheKeioUniversitySchoolofMedicine. IftheyarerecommendedtotheSchoolofMedicineofKeioUniversity,theymustenroll.
9. Students wishing to gototheSchoolofMedicine,theFacultyofScienceandTechnology, or the Faculty of Pharmacy must take science major courses in the 12th grade. - In the morning and before 1800, commuters check-in (first arrival time on campus) by dropping their “CommuterIDs.”into“CommuterBoxes”outsidethe AdministrationOffice.
- If a student leaves the campus before 1800, he/she can pickuptheir “Commuter ID” attheAdministrationOffice.
- Commuters must inform their Head of House by 1600 if they intend to stay for studyhoursthatday.
- If a student leaves the campus after 1700, he/she can pick up their “Commuter ID” attheGuardHouse.
- Commuters must check in and out whenever they enter or leave the campus for personal reasons during the day. They do not have to check in/out if they leave campus as part of a School group event but must check out upon leaving the campusforthelasttime.
- Commuters entering the campus after 1800 must check in by dropping their “CommuterIDs”offattheGuardHouse.
- A student whohasforgottentobringhis/herCommuterIDtoSchoolmustfillout a Temporary Commuter’s ID to replace their “Commuter ID” at the administrationoffice.
- A student who has forgotten to check out (pick up his/her Commuter ID) must calltheNorthHouseOfficeorleaveamessageat1-914-701-3561before2030.
- All commuter students must be off campus or in the rotundas of the Classroom BuildingorNorthorSouthHouseby1900Monday-Friday
- If a Commuter Athleteistakenhomefromaneventbyhis/herparents,theCoach must first give consent and observe the departure. The Commuter athlete, upon arriving home or before 2030, must call the North House to check out (1-914-701-3561).

- Commuters are permitted on Campus from 0900 to 2000. Drop-Off/Pick-Up Point on these days is the main entrance to the North or South House or the ClassroomBuilding.

Students who do not keep the regulations described above may receive BVS from the School.

i. Students are forbidden to remain in the hallways during class times. If you have a freeperiod,youmustreporttotheStudyHall or to the Library Students in the Study Hall or Library may use bathrooms on their respective floors but may not go to their lockers.
ii. Students that need to go to the Health Center to see a nurse or to the Counseling Department to seeacounselorarepermittedinthe Hallwayswithoutapass.

i. The use of the academic building will be limited to academic activities before 1600 in order to provide a quiet environment for students who are studying and for teachers who are helpingthose students,eitherintheclassroomsorintheprep-rooms.
ii. When an official School event is conducted, all students should respect the importance of the event and refrain from engaging in any non-academic activities in the academic building. Examples of such events include but are not limited to a National Honor SocietyInductionCeremonyandDramaPerformance.

If a student finds any errors on the record on the KANYOS, he/she must submit a “Correction Form for Attendance” on KANYOS within 10 School days on which the absence/tardy/early leave occurred. The correction form mustbeapprovedby thesubject teachers. A student should never fail to check the attendance record with or without absencebecausehe/shecannotmakeanycorrectionsaftertheten-daydeadline,evenifthe errorwasduetotheSchool.
9. AttendanceRecordontheGradeReport
Attendance summaries are also shown on the grade report for each term. The classified statuses are the same as on the attendance record. The number on the grade report is the accumulated total of the number on the record. Corrections with the properly submitted “Correction Form” will be reflected. If a student finds an error at the end ofthetermbut has not submitted a correction form to correct the error withintheabovedeadline,he/she cannotgobacktoittomakecorrections.
8.EXAMINATION&REPORT
1. TermExaminations
1) A student arriving no more than 20 minutes late is allowed to take the exam; however,thestudentcannottakeanexamifhe/sheisover20minuteslate.
2) A student may leave the examination room after 20 minutes. After you leave the examination room, please go to the library or an empty classroom. You must not disruptorhinderotherstudentswhoareworkingontheirexams.
3) Thestudentmayonlyhavepencils,pens,andaneraseronhis/herdesk.
4) Do not leave a pencil case or other items in/on the desk. The student cannot use a shitajiki or plastic board. Keep notes, notebooks, and textbooks in your bag: do not leave anything in your desk. Any student not following these instructions will be viewedascheating.
5) A student may use a calculator and/or a ruler only when given permission by the instructor Any type of dictionaries including but not limited to an electronic dictionaryorabook-typedictionaryisnotallowed.
6) If you have any questions or feel sick during the exam, please raise your hand and waitfortheproctortoassistyou.
7) No more writing is allowed once the proctor indicates that the exam time is over Continuing to write after the announcement is made by the proctor is viewed as cheating.
8) Except in an extremeemergency,nostudentwillbeallowedtoresumetheexamafter leaving the examination room duringtheexaminationperiod.(Reminder:Pleasetake careofyourpersonalneedsbeforetheexambegins).
