On Monday 7 October we will be having a commemorative Day at the school and will be running a special programme for G8 and G9 students in the morning and G10 and G11 students later in the day. The school day will end at the usual time of 3:00pm. On Tuesday 8 October we will be sending our entire G10 grade to the DIJE/PLUS’s 365 Museum. This powerful experience has been created by DIJE Plus King David Students, to commemorate and reflect on the ongoing pain witnessed and felt over the past 365 days. Grade 10 students will leave the school at 09:00 and return for regular lessons.
On Wednesday 9 October we will be hosting a special guest speaker at 8:00am in the Hall. Liora Ben Tsur will speak about her ordeal when, after giving birth, invited her mother, Marsel Talya (65) to join the family for Simchat Torah. Her mother was tragically murdered on the Kibbutz Ein Ha’Shelosha. We have limited space available to invite any parents who would like to hear this story of bravery and courage to join us for the presentation.
In closing, I want to say Mazal Tov to Nicci Beder who did extremely well in the SANESA Equestrian finals. Her team placed first for Gauteng and she will be awarded full colours for Gauteng at the SANESA awards next week.
Wishing you all Shana Tova U’Metuka. May the year ahead only bring much happiness and health.
Shabbat Shalom

SHIMON PERES ISRAEL QUIZ 2024
Congratulations to Daniel Segal for winning the prestigious Israel Quiz, to Aimee Shull for achieving third place and for Joshua Woolf for coming fourth! Mazal Tov to all the competitors who made it to the final round, which took place on Sunday 29 September at Beyachad! We’re especially proud that six out of the eleven finalists were from King David Victory Park: Atara Haberfeld, Jenna Hodes, Daniel Segal, Aimee Shul, Joshua Woolf, and Jaedone Zaken. The Shimon Peres Israel Quiz started 20 years ago, and King David Victory Park has claimed victory 12 times. We encourage students from Grades 8-11 to participate next year in this competition, in which you learn about the history of Israel and current affairs.
ROSH HASHANA
The school enjoyed apples dipped in honey for Rosh Hashana! We wish all our teachers, students and their families a happy new year!

Rosh Hashanah message 2024
One of the popular parts of the Machzor we sing over the Yamim Noraim is the last phrase of Avinu Malkeinu. The melody is etched in our hearts. The words Avinu Makleinu, Our Father, Our King defines our relationship with Hashem. On the one hand, we refer to Hashem as “Our Father” and simultaneously we refer to Hashem as “Our King”. There is an implicit paradox in this relationship. “Father” has connotations of a nurturing, loving relationship, whereas “King” is often a scary concept. A king does not always tolerate mistakes. The year that has passed has been a most difficult year for the Jewish people, the most difficult in my memory. We have had to defend ourselves on so may levels, both physically and psychologically.
It seems that the year can only be viewed through the lens of Hashem being “Our King”. Let us pray that this new year be a year of Hashem being “Our Father”.
Let us pray for the return of our hostages, a speedy recovery for all the injured and for lasting peace and that the bereaved families be comforted amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
Wishing you all a Shana Tova umetukah, a happy and sweet new year.
Shabbat Shalom RABBI RABINOWITZ
On Monday we wrapped up our Ellul learning program. Mrs Katz spoke about how the cycle of the moon is a reminder to us that we always have room to grow in our lives. Over the past 5 weeks we have had an amazing turnout of students giving of their break time to come and learn and be inspired. Thank you to everyone who made this Ellul so powerful and inspirational. Watch this space for the announcement of the winners of the raffle!
