Our 60th Birthday went off with great success. From the morning function for the alumni of our school held in the Primary School Hub to the Assembly with the address by Mr Jeffrey Wolf in the recently-renovated High School Hall. A wonderful carnival was provided for the students with a variety of activities and a market of many, many stalls selling food items, jewelry, basket ware, clothing and much more. The variety was endless. Many took part in the Colour Run and ended up at the finish line covered from head to toe is a range of different colored powders.
My grateful thanks go to all involved in arranging this wonderful celebration. A special mention to the PTA Committees of the different schools as well as Mrs Nirvana Rogers for their tireless efforts.
In closing, Mazal tov to Galya Gruskin for being selected to play for the under 15A Gauteng Touch Rugby team.

FROM THE RABBI
PARASHAT NITZAVIM-VAYEALECH
Candle Lighting: 17:48
Shabbat Ends: 18:38
The two parshiyot we read this Shabbat are always read in close proximity to Rosh Hashanah.
The Parasha alludes to a very important concept, known as “shtikah K’hodaah”, silence is as acceptance. When a person sees a wrong, when we see an injustice, we have a responsibility to speak out and remind society of a higher calling. The covenant of mutual responsibility must be engraved upon all our hearts.
We may not turn a blind eye and act with indifference when individuals or groups within society perpetrate evil.

ELLUL PROGRAMME
On Thursday we had our fourth Ellul break event. We were joined by the DIJE’s very own Helena Unterslak for Cupcakes and Conversation. Helena spoke about how Ellul is a time to upgrade ourselves and work on being the best version of ourselves. Over 35 students came to join this event and the discussion was very inspirational. We have one more Elul event next week, so remember to come so you can be entered into the raffle to win awesome prizes!

SAPS MEMORIAL SERVICE
We had the privilege of attending the SAPS memorial service on the 8th of September to commemorate those who have lost their lives serving our beloved country and protecting our people. We witnessed and were a part of a meaningful service that honoured fallen heroes. High ranking officials such as the Provincial Commissioner were in attendance, as well as family members of the fallen and students of local high schools. This memorial entailed the release of doves to symbolise the freedom and hope for our nation. It was a meaningful day that truly impacted us and highlighted the need to be thankful for our amazing police.
The TLC (Tender Love and Care) Fund is our way of supporting children who can't afford basic school necessities, ensuring that every student has the tools they need to thrive. In our newest initiative, we held a raffle and with the some of the proceeds we're providing 10 students with stationery packs, including pens, pencils, highlighters, a pencil case, and three books. By offering these supplies, we aim to bridge the gap in education inequality, empowering students to focus on their learning without the stress of lacking essential materials. We want to thank Capmor Stationery & Gifts for donating some of the stationery.

HERITAGE DAY
This year, King David Victory Park celebrated Heritage Day early on Friday 20 September with a delicious South African Braai cooked by part of the Grade 11 students. We had an engaging workshop where each group was led by an SRC member where students actively discussed their heritages and the value of heritage day to them. Overall, Heritage Day was a celebration of our diverse as well as interconnected Jewish and South African identities in true Victory Park style.

ISIZULU MATRIC SETWORK
On Wednesday, 25 September, KDVP hosted over 250 matric isiZulu students to watch a productionoftheMatricSetwork‘Iqonde Kuphi Le Ndlela?’. The performance was excellent and it was very exciting to see the script brought to life. Between the humor and drama, we were extremely invested in the story. It was a beneficial experience and it definitely helped deepen our understanding and appreciation of the play. We are all very grateful to MaMota for making it happen!
