Hello! Dear Owners, Stylists & Clients, In 2017, Just Cuts celebrates 27 years of franchising. And by the time this issue of Just News hits salons across Australia and New Zealand we will have officially celebrated the Grand Opening of the 200th Just Cuts, WOW! Just Cuts number one opened in 1990 at Engadine, NSW, Just Cuts number 200 celebrates its grand opening all the way on the other side of Australia in Mandurah, WA. Although Just Cuts Engadine and Just Cuts Mandurah are separated by 3,984.6 km, 27 years and 198 other Just Cuts across Australia and New Zealand, it’s the same systems and processes that have seen us be able to provide our services to over 100,000 Clients per week, employ 2,500+ Stylists and make the dream of owning your own small business a reality. JUSTICE Professional has been a key driver of our growth and success over the last four years (check out ‘A Word from Denis’ for all the details). We look forward to bringing our Team, Clients and Franchise Owners more exciting innovations as the remainder of 2017 unfolds. It’s at these times we also like to reflect and acknowledge the people who have helped to build the Just Cuts brand. After 18 years, we say farewell and thank you to Scott Wallace, Master Franchisor of Just Cuts New Zealand. We wish Scott best wishes for his future adventures. Just Cuts Australia and New Zealand will now team together to drive the next phase of Just Cuts growth across the Southern hemisphere, watch this space! 2017 is a big year for Just Cuts. Amber has just shared with you all the fantastic news about the 200th Just Cuts. In May this year we opened the NEW JUSTICE Professional warehouse and international distribution centre (IDC). This milestone has been one of our key focus areas for the last 18 months. We launched JUSTICE Professional in 2013 with NIL sales and 14 products in the range. Today we stand in our new, custom-built, 400-pallet capacity warehouse (we outgrew the previous warehouse arrangement) in less than four years. Our range has grown to 23 products plus our new Professional Home Hair Colour range which features 20 fashion colours. Why did we do it? We wanted to add value to the investment Just Cuts Franchise Owners have in the business. We have increased the buying power for 200 salons across Australia and New Zealand overnight and will be able to support 2,500+ Just Cuts Stylists and 100,000 Clients per week with a better end to end solution. It’s all about quality and value for the Just Cuts community. The JUSTICE Professional warehouse is a one stop shop to support the Just Cuts system. Our vision for the JUSTICE Professional warehouse and IDC is to continually innovate our systems, technology, the team and the range of SKU’s available to the Just Cuts community. t 11:15am on Friday 26 May, 2017 Denis McFadden addressed over 80 guests who gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the new JUSTICE Professional™ Warehouse and International Distribution Centre in Caringbah, NSW.
‘We started Just Cuts 11kms away at Hurstville in 1983. Our first franchise opened in 1990 at Engadine, NSW and next week the 199th Just Cuts franchise will open in Gordon, NSW. Today, we are looking at this warehouse opening as our first very day of our very first business. This warehouse will add real value to the Just Cuts Franchise brand. We hope to be able to do it quicker and we hope to get pricing better. We’ll have more control to be innovative and try new things. And, it will add another reason why a potential franchisee would consider this brand a lifetime investment.’ Denis said. The JUSTICE Professional™ warehouse and IDC will be a one stop shop to support the Just Cuts system. Stocking over 200 SKU’s from day one, the new warehouse and IDC has also created new jobs in the Sutherland Shire, NSW increasing the Just Cuts Franchising and JUSTICE Professional™ team to 18 people. The Honorable Scott Morrison, Federal Member for Cook, and Treasurer accepted the invitation to officiate the ribbon cutting. ‘My passions are here in my own community and Denis is the same. This is your community’, Mr Morrison said. ‘We really get that small business drives employment, drives the opportunities, helps people realise their entrepreneurial dreams and allows them to be their own boss. What’s also exciting about Just Cuts is this facility is about serving your customers and particularly your franchisees, and it’s taking your business to the next level. The reason you’ve been so successful is the care and attention I think, the passion and commitment you’ve shown to your franchisees, they are your business and they are your connection to your customers. executed. The passion among the Just Cuts community is there for all to see.’ Mr Morrison said before inviting Denis and Grant Denyer to join him to declare the facility open and cut the ribbon. Just Cuts Brand Ambassador, Grant Denyer and his wife Chezzi Denyer were up bright and early to make the trip from Bathurst to Caringbah on Friday morning to join Denis and team to celebrate the milestone. ‘My relationship with Just Cuts dates back to 1999 when the brand sponsored my first ever car race at Bathurst. In many ways, they were responsible for kick starting my racing career and have backed me from the very start. I’m thrilled to be here. And I’m proud to be more than just an ambassador – I’ve been a loyal Client of my local Bathurst salon for years!’ Grant said. 5
JUST CUTS RAISES $13,500 FOR THE ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE OF AUSTRALIA rs and the local Griffith The Just Cuts Team, Outback Car Trekke annual Cut-A-Rama event community rally to raise money at the Cut-A-Rama went off with a bang on Saturday June 3rd, with hundreds of people packing the local Hotel Victoria to join in on raising money for a great cause. This year, we raised an amazing $13,500 in just over three hours! Cut-A-Rama is the kick-off party to the Royal Flying Doctor Outback Car Trek, held the night before the charity trek commences. Eight Just Cuts Stylists and our Owner from Just Cuts Rockdale Plaza in Sydney travelled from all over Australia to help create wild hair styles and
colours for the drivers to sport during their trek. Thousands of dollars were donated by trekkers and Griffith locals to see their friends’ heads shaved, clipped and hair coloured for the cause. Thank you to our amazing Cutting Crew and everyone who helped make the night a huge success! A big shout out to our amazing Just Cuts Academy Training and Operations Coordinator Claire Lavelle for organising the entire event.

This is a photo taken DURING the Bathurst 3-hour Production Car race, where I was given a gorgeous style cut in front of the live television cameras, just before my co-driver got out of the car and I got in, to finish the race in 2nd place. FRANCHISE OWNERS GIVING BACK Just Cuts Franchise Owners Cassandra & Lynda share their Habitat for Humanity story
Q: When and where did you go? Lynda: We headed to Cambodia from Australia in January 2017. We were based in Phnom Penh. The build location was 20 kilometres outside the city. Cassandra: It was a semi-rural area and the exact location was never revealed for security/ privacy reasons.
When we found out that two of our very own Franchise Owners had made more than one journey overseas to help those less fortunate we just had to share the details with you. We’re delighted to introduce you to Cassandra Colefax and Lynda Rennie. Both own and operate a Just Cuts Franchise (make that seven for Cassandra), both are dedicated Just Cuts community participants and both run a busy family as well as taking time out to help those in need. We’re calling it… they’re wonder women! We sat with Cassandra and Lynda to chat about the work they have done with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) and their recent trip to Cambodia to build a home for a family in need.

Q: What is the background of the trip (why did you decide to go)? Cassandra: This was my 3rd build for HFH (Habitat For Humanity). I decided to get involved because it’s a way to help those less fortunate, give something different than a monetary donation and an opportunity to experience other cultures. At times, it’s a little out of your comfort zone but the results are so rewarding. Lynda, Carla (Franchise Owner of Just Cuts Elanora-The Pines and Burleigh Heads, QLD) and I travelled to the Philippines for HFH the year before and I guess Lynda caught the HFH bug after that. I decided to do this build because it was different from the others I had done. This time we got to build for one family and at times work side by side with them. On my first two builds we didn’t get to meet the owners and they were co-joined houses. This build in Cambodia was unique for us as it was a stand-alone house.
Q: What did the building of the home involve? Lynda: Before the build we had to complete an orientation with all the team members (there were 17 of us). This encompasses OH&S and insights into the culture and language. The build takes 5 days; Day 1 is about getting the floor foundation ready and the following days we work on various tasks like mixing mortar, laying bricks, rendering and clearing the site for hand over. Cassandra: We had to do everything by hand so the heat and humidity make the tasks challenging. It’s a real struggle at times but we always keep our eye on the prize so to speak. As we don’t have mixing machines or any other machinery, we cart all the materials ourselves. We also learned some great skills like laying bricks and rendering! As a team, we also had an opportunity to get out for some sightseeing and absorb the history and culture of the area. Q: What did you learn from the people you spent time with? Cassandra: The biggest thing I’ve learned over my time with HFH is that living standards all over the world are vastly different and acceptable standards of living vary too! Many things that I take for granted like running water, a flushing toilet, having your own bedroom, air conditioning, etc, are just not on their list of priorities. They are just so grateful to have a roof over their heads and that their housing is safe and secure. I also learned things from other team members as we are from all walks of life and vary in age and origin. As a team, we had plenty of laughs. We’d go out for dinner each night to reflect on the day and get mentally prepared for the next. There’s a real sense of comradery and belonging.
Q: What was the most special moment & valuable lesson learned? Cassandra: The handover ceremony is definitely the icing on the cake! It’s a very emotional and proud moment too. We got to share and celebrate our sweat and toil, and stand in awe of what we had all achieved in such a relatively short space of time. Lynda: From this experience, we’ve learned to not take things for granted. If you think you’re having a bad day, just thinking back to your build experience makes you realise that your situation is not that bad. It gives you a whole new perspective on life and makes you grateful for what you have. Q: What would you love to do next? Cassandra: We are just starting to consider that now. Nepal or Mexico are on the list, though Lynda and I haven’t decided on the final options for our next HFH journey just yet! FIND OUT MORE!
