It takes a special kind of community to realise a $2.1 million project, but that’s just what happened when plans to refurbish the existing hall in Waipu grew into the ambitious Celtic Barn project. The small community got behind the initiative and raised over $800,000. The beautiful new building boasts huge rustic interior beams and wonderful park surroundings. 600-auditorium style and can also be used for indoor sports such as basketball, netball and indoor soccer. The lobby area is ideal for weddings. It can seat around 180-auditorium style, or 130 for dinner. The Celtic Barn has excellent kitchen facilities and all rooms have large bifold doors opening out onto the Caledonian Park. Being in central Waipu means there is a wide range of accommodation options nearby and the stunning Bream Bay beaches are only a few minutes drive away.
Since opening in 2015 the Celtic Barn has been a gracious host to many weddings and events. These include the 140th anniversary of the Waipu Rugby Club, The Waipu Primary Easter Carnival, the famous Art ‘n’ Tartan Show and the Waipu Highland Games. With such a prestigious venue and great location, the possibilities for its use are endless.
