“Untold: The Liver King” (May 13)
Brian Johnson, aka the “Liver King,” built an online fitness empire by devouring raw meat and promoting an all-natural ancestral lifestyle, with the muscles to back it up. ‘The
Shining’ still casts its spell
Stephen King, Stanley Kubrick and Jack Nicholson are all brand names in entertainment, and they came together on “The Shining,” director and co-screenwriter Kubrick’s 1980 version of King’s horror novel that Cinemax shows Wednesday, May 14. King’s works had started to become popular sources of movies by then, but Kubrick’s unique visual sense sets this apart from all other adaptations of the author’s books.
Nicholson plays Jack Torrance, a creatively challenged writer who brings his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and young son Danny (Danny Lloyd) along when he accepts a job as the caretaker of a snowbound resort hotel. The place has a haunted history that seems to start working its effect on Jack, with Danny’s seemingly clairvoyant gift causing added complications when the child begins having terrifying visions. A chase through an outdoor maze of hedges, superbly filmed by veteran cinematographer John Alcott, is among the picture’s most striking and memorable aspects. Scatman Crothers, Barry Nelson and Anne Jackson also appear.
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (Available Now)
In this animated film sequel, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Jake Johnson, Oscar Isaac, Daniel Kaluuya and Issa Rae also voice star.

“Three’s Company” (Antenna TV, weeknights): Based on the British series “Man About the House,” this 1977-84 ABC sitcom — enormously popular over the course of its original broadcasts — made John Ritter, Suzanne Somers (who famously left during the show’s run) and Joyce DeWitt into three of television’s biggest stars. They play roommates whose platonic living arrangement draws the skepticism of their landlords, first Stanley Roper (Norman Fell) and then Ralph Furley (Don Knotts). In later seasons of the show, Somers was succeeded by Jenilee Harrison and Priscilla Barnes.
“The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” (Catchy Comedy, Saturdays): After they finished making their truly classic series “I Love Lucy,” Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz kept a television presence by continuing their Lucy and Ricky Ricardo characters in this series of hour-long stories that CBS aired sporadically between 1957 and 1960. William Frawley and Vivian Vance also returned as Fred and Ethel Mertz, but many big-name guest stars were brought in, ranging from Red Skelton and Milton Berle to Danny Thomas and Fred MacMurray. Some of the locations were more exotic, with the regulars traveling to destinations such as Japan and Cuba.

Chicago Sky, Indiana Fever set for blockbuster season-opening matchup
Opening week of the 2025 WNBA season is off to a scorching start with another marquee matchup as Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever get set to face Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, Saturday, May 17, at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The game broadcasts live on ABC, ESPN+ and Disney+.
The Sky enter their 20th season in the WNBA, with newly appointed head coach Tyler Marsh hoping to lead the team to new heights after former LSU star Reese made an impressive WNBA rookie debut last season. And, if this season wasn’t already exciting enough, the debut of Hailey Van Lith, the 11th overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, is sure to bring fans to their feet — which includes the highly anticipated LSU reunion between former teammates Reese and Van Lith.
For her career, Van Lith has averaged 15.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists while shooting 42.2% from the field and 33.8% from three-point range. With the two superstars teaming up once again, look for Van Lith to provide a serious boost to the Sky’s backcourt and overall style of play.
Meanwhile, Clark leads the Fever as she enters her sophomore season in the league on the heels of her historic 2024 rookie campaign. Clark wrapped up the 2024 season averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and a league-leading 8.4 assists per game, with her stellar performance earning her the 2024 Rookie of the Year award and All-WNBA First Team honors — the first rookie to accomplish the feat since since Candace Parker in 2008. Clark also became the first WNBA rookie to record a triple-double.
Fans won’t want to miss this star-studded matchup as the rising Fever host the bolstered Sky, Saturday, May 17, broadcasting live from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Natasha Lyonne of “Poker Face” on Peacock: After appearing in the 1986 movie “Heartburn,” she made her TV acting debut the same year with the recurring role of Opal on “Pee-wee’s Playhouse.”
Connie Britton of “The Motherhood” on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark+: Though the character name was changed for the television series, she reprised the role of the high school football coach’s wife in the NBC version of “Friday Night Lights” (2006-11) after playing the part in the 2004 movie.
“I think the way most actors are — being really, really sensitive — it’s helpful to have someone who understands. Having [other performers] come from that same place is really great.” — Hannah Einbinder of “Hacks”
“Song selection is key. It tells us who [a contestant is] as an artist. It tells us how sharp they are as an artist. It tells us how knowledgeable they are about where they want to take their career.”
— Luke Bryan of “American Idol”

“Because of my life circumstances, I wasn’t actually able to do my normal routine as an actor, which was really interesting because I was kind of worried about it. ...I had a different approach, and I think that it really served the character in a lot of ways.” — Kaitlyn Dever of “The Last of Us” speaking with Variety.
