About The City High Jazz Ensemble:

The City High Jazz Ensemble is the premier big band in the City High Jazz program. The band maintains an extensive performance calendar in a normal year, performing for concerts at City High and throughout the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City corridor area in addition to jazz festivals and competitions in Iowa and Illinois. The City High Jazz Ensemble performs for two home events including the City High 4th Ave. Show Choir Winter Show and the City High Jazz Showcase (this year’s guest artist is trumpeter Marques Carroll from Chicago).

Their second place finish at the SEIBA District Jazz Festival and qualified them for this year's Iowa Jazz Championships, where they finished 6th in Class 4A.

The City High Jazz Ensemble is led by one of their own. Mr. Ottmar is a proud graduate of City and also an alumnus of the Corridor Jazz Project, which started during his time in high school.

About Marvin Truong:

Marvin Truong is a Waukee native and is a junior in the Jazz Studies program at the University of Iowa. Some of the musicians he regularly performs with include Dave Thaker, Jerome Gillespie. In addition to performing music, he also plays music as a DJ at lots of venues and events around Iowa City.
