About Prairie Jazz Band One:

The Prairie High School Jazz Band One has competed at the Liberty Jazz Festival, Coe College Jazz Summit and District Jazz Festival this year. Evan Wazac was named Outstanding Performer-Honorable Mention at the Coe College Jazz Summit for his contributions on organ and guitar. In addition, JBO received their 25th consecutive Division I rating at the State Jazz Band Festival in January.

The band is in its first year directed by Mrs. Swehla, a Prairie alum.

About Toni Lefebvre & Justin Sands

Toni LeFebvre, originally from Bettendorf, IA, is an active trumpet player and music educator. She has degrees from UNI and the University of Iowa. Toni is currently the 6th Grade Band Director at Prairie Creek Intermediate School in Cedar Rapids, IA. She has performed with many big bands, pit orchestras, and other musical ensembles throughout the state of Iowa and beyond and is frequently called upon for guest artist, clinician, and adjudicator roles. In 2017, Toni founded the Iowa Women's Jazz Orchestra for the purpose of showcasing the artistry of women jazz instrumentalists and inspiring the next generation. She also serves as a Co-Chair of the Iowa Jazz Championships.

Justin Sands is the Director of Choirs at Prairie High School Iowa where he joined the music faculty in 2011. He serves as the co-director of Prairie's Concert Choir, Concert Chorale, and Chamber Choir. He also directs The award-winning Ambassadors and Focal Point, the show choirs at Prairie High School. Mr. Sands received his bachelor's degree in vocal music from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and a Master of Music Education degree from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. He also somehow finds the time to perform himself, with recent roles in TCR productions including Kinky Boots.
