7 PASOS PARA SER UNA MAMÁ FELIZ 7 STEPS TO BEING A HAPPY MOTHER 4. NO TENGAS PRISA EN QUE TUS HIJOS CREZCAN. Sobre todo con el
primer bebé es frecuente desear que crezca deprisa. Quieres que tu bebé gatee pronto, que diga sus primeras palabras y con el día en que sea capaz de comer alimentos sólidos. Luego deseas que camine ya, que maneje bicicleta, y así hasta que es adolescente y de pronto te encuentras con que tiene novia y añoras sus primeros años de vida. Disfruta cada etapa de su crecimiento porque es única e irrepetible.
3. GIVE UP ON HAVING A PERFECTLY TIDY HOUSE. It’s practically impossible to have everything clean and perfectly organized when you have small children. It’s preferable to dedicate your free time to your children rather than to cleaning, although with some tricks, domestic chores will be easier.
4. DO NOT RUSH YOUR CHILDREN TO GROW UP. Especially with the first
baby it’s common to wish that it will grow up fast. You want your baby to crawl early, speak its first words and you wish for the day it will eat solids. Afterwards you wish the baby could walk, ride a bicycle and like that until he or she is an adolescent and you suddenly see he or she has a boyfriend or girlfriend and you long for those first years of life. Enjoy each step of growth because it’s unique and doesn’t repeat.
5. NO OLVIDES A TUS AMIGAS. No te
limites a relacionarte con tus amigas que también son mamás. Procura mantener el contacto también con las que no tienen hijos. Así podrás hablar de cosas diferentes y no perder tu identidad. Usa las redes sociales en Internet y el teléfono, pero no te limites al contacto virtual.

argriet Ruurs escribió un libro llamado “Mi bibliotecaria es un camello”, después de hacer varias investigaciones ella descubrió que en el mundo existen varias maneras de hacer llegar libros a los niños, niñas y jóvenes lectores que no tienen la oportunidad de acceder a una biblioteca. Margriet Ruurs wrote a book called “Mi bibliotecaria es un camello,” (“My Librarian is a Camel,”) and after lots of investigating, she discovered that there are various ways to get books to boys, girls, and young readers that don’t have the opportunity to access a library.

¿Cómo nos gustaría celebrar el día del niño? How would we like to T celebrate Children’s Day? odos los niños INTI deseamos que ese día podamos compartir una sonrisa, jugar con nuestros padres, que tengan el tiempo disponible, que no tengamos que trabajar, pero también nos gustaría quedarnos con ellos todos los días del año, pasear por diferentes lugares turísticos para poder aprender cosas nuevas sobre diferentes temas, nos gustaría que nos animen a los niños a participar en distintas competencias como el dibujo, deporte, canto, etc. Durante ese día todos los niños debemos recibir regalos, en esta ocasión nosotros deseamos que nos regalen una bicicleta para poder jugar con todos los niños y niñas INTI en la Plaza 25 de Mayo. Que interesante nunca me habían preguntado cómo celebraría el día del niño, siempre miré con desconfianza esta fecha, más allá de los planes que tuvieran mis padres. Reflexiona unos minutos sobre la relación que tienes con tus hijos para que al final del día no desconozcas que pasa en el corazón de tus niños. El día del niño te invito a que juegues con él, no importa si no tienes el obsequio preferido de tu hijo lo principal después de todo es el amor que se debe demostrar. Aprendí que los niños siempre dicen la verdad no dudes de ellos!

n this day, all of us INTI kids would like to be able to share smiles, for our parents to have some free time to play with us, and that we don’t have to work. But we would also like to be able to stay with them every day of the year, and to go sightseeing so we could learn lots of new things about different topics. We would like to be encouraged to participate in different competitions such as drawing, sports, singing, etc. During this day every child should receive presents, and we would like to receive a bicycle to play with all the Inti girls and boys in the Plaza 25 de Mayo. It’s interesting that I never asked myself how I would celebrate Children’s day. I always mistrusted the date beyond what plans my parents may have had. Reflect a few minutes on the relationship you have with your children so that at the end of the day you are able to recognise what goes on in your child’s heart. On Children’s Day, I invite you to play with your child. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the perfect gift for them as the most important thing is, after all, to demonstrate your love. I learnt that children always tell the truth. Don’t doubt them!

LEYENDAS Un amor, sin sentido no es amor
Se comenta que años pasados hubo una pareja de recién casados que vivían en el municipio de Yotala, tenían una convivencia muy agradable, pero cuando el muchacho se emborrachaba golpeaba a su esposa pensando que la engañaba. Un día él salió de casa muy temprano, ella preparó el almuerzo para que se sirvan juntos pero él no llegó, pasaron las horas y se hizo de noche, después de tanta espera ella se acostó para dormir, en un sueño profundo sintió que alguien la golpeaba. Ya se ponía de madrugada cuando él se dio cuenta que su esposa no despertaba por tantos golpes que le propinó por los celos, sintió mucho miedo y tomo una decisión muy fuerte de enterrarla en la parte trasera de su casa que estaba ubicada en la tranca camino al pueblito de Yotala donde nadie se dio cuenta. La encontraron cuando tuvieron que demoler la casa después de muchos años y mencionan que la muchacha es milagrosa. FIN Nota: Esta leyenda está basada en hechos reales, Adela Cárdenas madre de 8 hijos, fue asesinada por su esposo que la golpeó con una piedra en la cabeza el 12 de noviembre de 1996 provocándole la muerte, su cuerpo fue cercenado y quemado. Este hecho conmociono a toda la población de Sucre, en la actualidad ella es un alma milagrosa donde muchos devotos van a visitar su santuario pidiendo milagros. El índice de feminicidio ha subido en los últimos años, mujeres que son asesinadas por sus parejas impulsados por los celos y acompañados del alcohol, con esta leyenda queremos llamar a la reflexión a hombres y mujeres denunciar estos hechos y no dejar en la impunidad, ya no queremos más leyendas tristes.

A senseless love is no love at all
It is told that years ago there was a newlywed couple who lived in the Yotala municipality. They were happy together, but sometimes the young man would get drunk and hit his wife because he thought she was cheating on him. One day, he left the house very early, and she prepared lunch for them to share when he got home. But he didn’t come home for lunch. Many hours passed and night fell. After such a long wait, she went to bed. In her deep sleep, she felt that someone was hitting her. It was nearing dawn when the young man realised his wife was not waking up from such a beating, brought on by his jealousy. He felt very fearful and took the terrible decision of burying her in the back garden of his house, which is on the road to the little town of Yotala. No one noticed. They found her many years later when they had to tear down the house. They say this young woman can grant miracles. THE END Note: This legend is based on a true event. Adela Cárdenas, mother of 8 children, was killed by her husband who beat her with a stone to the head on November 12, 1996. Her body was dismembered and burned. This shocked the entire population of Sucre and today she is considered to be a ‘miraculous soul’, and many devotees will visit her sanctuary for miracles. The rate of femicide has risen in recent years. Women are killed by their partners who have been driven by jealousy and fueled with alcohol. With this legend we are calling on intelligent men and women to report violent incidences so they are not left unpunished. We do not want to be writing any more sad legends like this.

NIÑOS Y NIÑAS INTI INTERCAMBIAN CARTAS CON ESTUDIANTES DE INGLATERRA
T
he Inti children recently received a letter from a class of Year 2 students in England. The students had originally written to a class at the school in Switzerland where Megan, the volunteer coordinator at BiblioWorks, used to work. Megan translated the letter into Spanish and shared it and a photo of the teacher and some of the students with a few of the Inti children when they visited the office. Liz, one of the Inti children, was inspired to reply. She dictated her letter to Megan who transcribed it for her and then translated it into English and sent it to the class in England. We are hoping to hear back from them again…

os niños Inti recientemente recibieron una carta de una clase de segundo de primaria de una escuela de Inglaterra. Los estudiantes escribieron al principio una carta a una clase en Suiza, a la escuela donde Megan, la coordinadora de voluntarios de BiblioWorks trabajaba. Megan tradujo la carta en español y compartió una foto de la maestra y de algunos estudiantes con los niños y niñas Inti cuando visitaron la oficina. Lizbeth una de las niñas Inti, se inspiró para responder. Ella dictó su carta a Megan que transcribió por ella y luego la tradujo al inglés y la envió a la clase en Inglaterra. Tú tienes que levantarte antes de lo que vayamos a la escuela y ¡no podamos creer que sólo hay 10 personas en tu clase! Estas son algunas de las respuestas a tus preguntas: En la escuela siempre estudiamos un tema. Antes de las vacaciones escolares estábamos estudiando todo sobre el mundo y cómo los lugares son similares o diferentes. Ahora seguimos con ese tema, sino también mirando a los libros de Dr. Seuss. ¿Has oído hablar de él? Cada semana leemos un libro diferente de Dr. Seuss y luego escribimos sobre los personajes o pensamos de cómo podemos cambiar la historia para que sea más divertido o para darle un fin diferente. Hemos leído El Gato Ensombrerado y Huevos Verdes con Jamón hasta ahora. ¡Son libros de rima! Pensamos que son estupendo y nos encanta leer. Muchos de nosotros tienen diferentes alimentos favoritos pero todos coincidieron en que nos gusta lo mejor, cuando la pizza está en el menú en la escuela. Cada viernes es “Fishy Friday” ¡que significa dedos de pescado y patatas fritas! Este es otro de nuestros favoritos también. En Inglaterra, en realidad no tenemos plazas - definitivamente no en Tadcaster. Donde se encuentra nuestra escuela, hay unas pocas casas y algunos cafeterías. A nuestro alrededor es hierba y campos. Estamos cerca de York, que es más grande y tiene una famosa catedral. Se trata de una iglesia grande y es muy bonito por dentro. El Camino a Yotala The Road to Yotala Sucre está rodeado de hermosas montañas y pueblos tradicionales, y se puede explorar estas áreas sin un tour caro! La Coordinadora de Voluntarios y Comunicaciones de BiblioWorks, Megan Graff y yo nos aventuramos a Yotala, a unos 20 km de Sucre. Armadas con un mapa dibujado por nuestro casero, protector solar y agua, salimos de la ciudad por la ciclo vía. El camino nos llevó a una vieja estación, detrás de la cual hay un estrecho sendero que nos llevó a las vías abandonadas del ferrocarril. Siguiendo las vías, nos encontramos algunos grupos de vacas, también gente amable, y más de un canino amenazante que finalmente nos dejó pasar. Pasamos El Castillo de la Glorieta, y continuamos en las vías hasta que cruzaron la carretera. Aunque la carretera principal conduce a Yotala, Megan y yo cruzamos un valle por un camino semi-pavimentado para tomar la ruta más directa (gracias, GoogleMaps!). Cuatro horas más tarde y habíamos llegado a Yotala! Almorcé sajta, que consistió en pollo, espaguetis y “patatas grises”. Caminando por la plaza principal encontramos unas graderías que nos llevaron a un mirador de la ciudad. Después de pasear hacia una iglesia, Megan recordó nuestras instrucciones de probar el jugo de tumbo. Encontramos un stand y disfrutamos la bebida dulce en la sombra. Tomamos un trufi a Sucre por cuatro bolivianos. Nos sorprendió que llegáramos a la ciudad en menos de media hora!
Sucre is surrounded by beautiful mountains and traditional towns, and you can explore these areas without an overpriced tour! Volunteer and Communications Coordinator of Biblioworks, Megan Graff, and I ventured to Yotala, about 20 km away from Sucre. Armed with a map drawn by our landlord, sunscreen, and water, we made our way out of the city on the cycling path. The path led us to an old station, behind which is a narrow trail that led us to the abandoned railroad tracks. Following the tracks, we encountered a few herds of cows, friendly locals, and more than one menacing canine that eventually let us pass. We passed El Castillo de la Glorieta, the pink castle, and continued on the tracks until they crossed the road. Although the main road eventually leads to Yotala, Megan and I crossed a valley on a semi-paved road to take the most direct route (thanks, Google Maps!) Four hours later we had arrived in Yotala! I had “sajta” for lunch, which consisted of chicken, spaghetti and what I refer to as “gray potatoes.” Walking around the main square we found steps that led us to an overlook of the town. After strolling towards a church, Megan remembered our instructions to try “jugo de tumbo,” similar to passion fruit juice. We found a stand and enjoyed the sweet drink in the shade. We took a small bus, a “trufi,” back to Sucre for four Bolivian pesos. We were shocked to arrive in the city in under a half an hour!

SUCRE LEE SUCRE Lectura en microbuses de nuestra ciudad READS D esde la gestión 2013, la Fundación BiblioWorks, sale cada año a las paradas de microbuses, junto a brigadas de voluntarios extranjeros y bolivianos, para realizar actividades de fomento a la lectura con los pasajeros de los microbuses. La actividad se la realiza una mañana del mes de abril, desde las 9:00 hasta las 11:45. La coordinación con los sindicatos de microbuses San Cristóbal y Sucre, nos ayuda a ingresar a cada uno de los microbuses en las diferentes paradas, son 8 brigadas de voluntarios, conformadas cada una por dos personas, que se dirigen a 8 paradas ubicadas en el Mercado Central y el Mercado Campesino. Cada brigada ofrece material de lectura como obsequio, a los conductores de los microbuses, niños y niñas, adolescentes y madres de familia. Es así que se distribuye 450 libros de bolsillo, revistas de cocina, novelas, poemas y comics para los pasajeros. El recibimiento de los pasajeros de los microbuses es muy positivo ante la promoción de la importancia de la lectura y la invitación hacia otras actividades de fomento a la lectura a desarrollarse durante el mes de Abril.
Reading On the buses in our city
E
very year since 2013, BiblioWorks staff, accompanied by Bolivian and foreign volunteers, head to bus stops to carry out activities designed to encourage reading with the passengers. This activity takes place during one morning in April, from 9 to 11:45 am. The coordination with the San Cristóbal and Sucre bus unions helps us get on each bus at the various bus stops. 8 volunteer squads, each composed of two people, go to 8 bus stops located in the Mercado Central and the Mercado Campesino. Each squad gives out reading material as a gift to the bus drivers, children and teenagers as well as mothers. In this way 450 paperback books, cooking magazines, novels, poetry collections and comic books are distributed to passengers.. The passengers’ feedback is very positive in the perspective of promoting the importance of reading and inviting to discover other activities that are to take place during the whole month of April to encourage reading.

solidaridad 1 ¿Cuál es la finalidad de la actividad que desarrollan en la Fiesta de Reyes? La finalidad de la actividad es poder compartir con todos los niños y niñas de Maragua del distrito 8 de nuestra ciudad; realizando Juegos, compartiendo una chocolatata, distribuyendo juguetes, ropa, con la participación de voluntarios extranjeros y todos los funcionarios de nuestra Institución. 2 ¿Quiénes son los principales beneficiarios de la actividad que realizan? Los principales beneficiarios son los niños y niñas de Maragua y de las poblaciones vecinas. 3 ¿Qué les motivó para desarrollar dicha actividad? La motivación fue creada por parte de todos los funcionarios de nuestra Institución con el objetivo de una responsabilidad social como institución, quienes forman parte de ello: • Joy Ride (Turismo) • Joy Hoster (Hotel) • Joy Discoter (Disco) • Donaciones de voluntarios extranjeros. • Agencias de viajes, que tienen convenio con nuestra institución. 4 ¿Cuál fue la impresión de los beneficiarios, y su participación? Cada impresión de los niños fue única, muy contentos con los juegos que realizamos, la participación de la comunidad fue muy satisfactoria. 5 ¿Cuántos años realizan dicha actividad? La actividad de recolección de juguetes, ropa, ya la realizamos dos años, esta actividad está incluida en las actividades anuales que realizamos.

solidariTY 1. What is the purpose of the activity you carry out on Three Kings Day? The purpose of the activity is to share with all the boys and girls of Maragua of District 8 of our city by playing games, sharing hot chocolate and giving out toys and clothes with the help of volunteers from abroad and all those who work here at our institution. 2. Who benefits from it? The people who benefit from our activity are the boys and girls from Maragua and its neighbouring villages. 3. What prompted you to start doing this? All members of our institution were motivated by a goal of social responsibility, those members include: • Joy Ride (Tourism) • Joy Hoster (Hotel) • Joy Discoter (Disco) • Donations from volunteers from abroad • Travel Agencies aligned with our institution 4. How did those who benefited react and participate? Each child reacted in their own way, they were very happy with the games that we played. We were very happy with how the community participated. 5. How long have you been doing this activity for? We’ve been collecting toys and clothes for 2 years now. This activity is one of many which we do every year.

The Chuquisaca Revolution of May 25, 1809 was an uprising against the authorities of the Royal Charcas Audience in the city of Chuquisaca now known as Sucre. It is known in Bolivia as the First Cry of Liberty in America, or the “Spark of the American liberation.” Bernardo Monteagudo was considered to have started the Revolution of Rio de la Plata. Ser voluntaria Volunteering con INTI with INTI
“¿Es
tu hijo adoptivo?” me preguntó un señor en la Plaza 25 de Mayo. No era mi hijo, sino un niño Inti. Cada día a las tres de la tarde durante tres semanas, fui a la plaza para acompañar a los niños trabajadores que venden la revista Inti. Los niños me aceptaron, pero tuve que convencer a los turistas y los Sucrenses que disfrutaban del sol en los bancos “¡Escúcheme un segundo y entenderá lo bueno de esta revista barata!” pensé mientras sonreía. “Está escrita en inglés y español. Sale cuatro Bolivianos, dos para producir la próxima revista y dos para el niño,” expliqué 923 veces durante el día, en inglés con los extranjeros, y en español con los bolivianos cuando los niños se cansaron. Traduje algunos de los artículos para la revista, y también les di clases de inglés en la plaza. “Cómo se dice ‘¿Vendo la revista para ayudar a mi familia?’” una niña me preguntó mientras su hermana menor pintaba frutas en una hoja que les había distribuido recién. Los niños disfrutan de vender la revista, tanto como un niño puede disfrutar trabajar en un parque en vez de jugar. Saben que vender Inti les da una oportunidad. Oportunidad de quedarse en el colegio, de escribir artículos, de tener una comunidad, y
de escuchar una lectura cada viernes. INTI promueve la importancia de la educación--de leer, escribir, y aprender el inglés. “¿Vas a volver?” una niña Inti quería saber. “Espero que sí,” contesté. Y es la verdad.

I spoke English with foreigners, and Spanish with Bolivians when the children were tired. I translated articles for the magazine, and gave the children English classes in the plaza. “How do you say ‘I sell the magazine to help my family?’” a little girl asked me while her younger sister colored fruits on a worksheet I had passed out earlier. The children enjoy selling the magazine, as much as any child can enjoy working in the park instead of playing. They know that selling INTI gives them opportunity. Opportunity to stay in school, to write articles, to have a community, and to listen to ‘read-alouds’ every Friday. INTI promotes the importance of education-of reading, writing, and learning English.
