A Journey Through the Ages Let’s delve into the iconic life of Prince of Darkness Ozzy Osbourne, from Black Sabbath to solo stardom, marked by hits like “Crazy Train,” reflecting a life of excess, love for Sharon and enduring resilience despite his health.

O

zzy Osbourne, the iconic Prince of Darkness, has captivated the world with his extraordinary life and unparalleled contributions to the realm of heavy metal. From his humble beginnings to his legendary status, Ozzy’s journey is one that has left an indelible mark on the music industry and

beyond. Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3, 1948, in Birmingham, England, Ozzy Osbourne’s early life was marked by a passion for music. Raised in a working-class family, his innate musical talent led him to pursue a career in the industry. Osbourne’s musical journey began in the late 1960s, and his distinctive voice and stage presence quickly set him apart from the crowd. In 1969, Osbourne joined forces with guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward to form the groundbreaking band Black Sabbath. This union would forever alter the landscape of rock music. Black Sabbath’s self-titled debut album in 1970 introduced the world to a new sound—dark, heavy, and entirely unprecedented. The band’s success skyrocketed, solidifying their place as one of the pioneers of the heavy metal genre. Osbourne’s departure from Black Sabbath in 1979 marked the beginning of an equally illustrious solo career. With iconic albums like “Blizzard of Ozz” (1980) and “Diary of a Madman” (1981), Ozzy unleashed a slew of hits, including classics like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.” His solo career showcased his versatility as a performer and cemented his status as a solo sensation.

Osbourne’s rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle has been as legendary as his music. Known for his unrestrained antics both on and off stage, the Prince of Darkness became synonymous with excess and extravagance. Tales of biting the head off a bat during a live performance and his well-documented struggles with substance abuse have only added to his mythical status in the world of rock. Ozzy’s love life has been just as remarkable. His marriage to Sharon Osbourne in 1982 has weathered the storms of fame, earning them the title of rock’s power couple. The Osbournes became a household name with their reality TV show, providing an intimate look into the life of this extraordinary family. Beyond the music, Ozzy Osbourne is a wellspring of anecdotes and unforgettable moments. From his wild encounters with fellow rock legends to his outspoken personality, each chapter of Osbourne’s life is a testament to his larger-than-life persona. As of [current year], Ozzy Osbourne continues to be a force in the music industry. His resilience in the face of health challenges, including his battle with Parkinson’s disease, demonstrates the enduring spirit that has defined his career. Join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Ozzy Osbourne, a true icon of rock music.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY WARREN ANDERSON

COVER Casual but organized, most of the time photography is a creative outlet and escape from my daily work and responsibilities, so I like to keep it fun and enjoyable. Depending on the shoot, there may be several models, a makeup artist, a hairstylist, a fashion stylist, and several photographers to communicate with. I try to plan and coordinate as far in advance as possible so that the shoot goes as smoothly as possible. “I really like that everyone on set has fun. Who is Warren Anderson? Let me start by saying I’m not a full-time photographer. Photography is a form of therapy I suppose and a creative outlet that lets me escape from my ‘day job’ as an educational technology executive in Dallas, TX. Second let me say that like many, my day job is what allows me the ability to shoot the kinds of things that excite me and create the art that makes me happy. So for me a photoshoot has to be enjoyable. Depending on the shoot there may be a makeup artist, hair stylist, fashion stylist and multiple models or clients to collaborate with. Add in location or studio management, coordination of lighting and keeping everyone on pace and there can easily be an opportunity for a stressful day. So I try to plan and coordinate as much as possible in advance so that shoots go as smooth as possible. I really like for everyone on set to be professional but at the same time enjoy themselves and the experience! How started in what you do I’ve had a camera around for over 30 years or so-yes I started out shooting film. Back in the days when you had to decide before hand if you wanted color or black and white, what speed, how many exposures, etc. Then you’d shoot, drop off the film at a lab and go back in a few days to see what you got. But seriously shooting portraits, fashion and glamour started about 6 years ago. I was at a point in my life that I needed something that would allow me to be creative and have no limits to the amount I could grow. How you learn and with who? There are a couple of ways I suppose. There are several good online options these days for video tutorials and workshops. I’ll see a well known photogrpaher like Lindsey Adler, Chris Knight, Melissa Rodwell—there are many—offer a course that appeals to me and I’ll sign up. It’s basically like going to a live event, but at your own pace and with rewind! Then there is the experimental approach. I will see a particular image, style or concept that I like and I will try and recreate it. Sometimes it takes a few tries and sometimes it’s a total failure. But there is always something to be learned along the way that be the missing piece for the next experiment. Why your career choice Well, as I tell people all the time, I’m not quitting my day job! Photography is a big part of my life but I really started to late to make it a career. That said, I have rates for various types of shoots and events. I’m always trying to find a balance between fun creative projects and paid portrait work. It takes both to keep it exciting but at the time feasible financially.

Main influences There are a couple of guys I met early on in this journey that I always like to give a shout out to. Nino Batista, led the first studio-based lighting and editing workshop that I ever attended. He has been a great influence in learning how to communicate, collaborate, and respectfully work with models. Duke Morse is responsible for getting me into the world of fashion and beauty photography. He is definitely someone I look up to when it comes to thinking creatively, lighting, and editing. Although it seems like I’ve been shooting forever, the past few years have flown by and I’ve already had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the best in the industry. What you have done so far important work presentations, etc? I think there are few things that I wanted to accomplish early on that I have been able to do. As with many photographers, getting work published in magazines, and hopefully a few covers along the way, is a part of building a portfolio as well as sharing successful projects. My work has appeared in over 50 publications with magazines based in several locations around the world. Collaborating with fashion designers on themed shoots and special projects is another aspect of the process I enjoy and I have been lucky to do this several times. I’ve met some great people and worked some amazing couture dresses from designers across the world. And finally New York Fashion Week. I’ve had the opportunity to shoot some amazing runway events, work on designer editorials, and collaborate with a large number of models over several days in one of the best venues in the world to shoot fashion. Future plans, where you’re going At some point I would like to have dedicated studio space or be sharing space with other photographers or artists. Obviously there is a cost to that so I need to make a focused effort to engage in more revenue generating projects and assignments in addition to the purely creative ones. I’d like to build a larger social media presence and continue pursuing publications in a broader range of magazines, both online and print. I’m trying to expand my networking with designers, boutiques, and industry organizations in the fashion world including experimenting with the idea of a private-labeled swimwear brand. And like any creative pursuit I want to get better, push my limits, experiment and deliver amazing images!

Calvin Klein A Fashion Icon’s Journey from Bronx to Global Stardom C

alvin Klein, the legendary American fashion designer, has left an indelible mark on the global fashion industry with his iconic creations that span womenswear, menswear, jeans, cosmetics, perfumes, bed and bath linens, and more. Born on November 19, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, Klein’s journey from the Fashion Institute of Technology to the creation of his fashion empire is a tale of innovation, controversy, and unparalleled success. Calvin Richard Klein, born to Leo and Flore Klein, was raised in the Bronx. His journey into the world of fashion began at the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan and the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he later received an honorary doctorate in 2003. Klein’s apprenticeship at the cloak-and-suit manufacturer, Dan Millstein, laid the foundation for his future success. In 1968, Klein took a bold step by launching his first company alongside childhood friend Barry K. Schwartz. Klein’s clean lines and innovative designs immediately caught the attention of fashion elites, earning him comparisons to the likes of Yves Saint Laurent. During a challenging period in the New York fashion scene dominated by casual hippie-style clothing, Klein carved a niche by offering simple, understated clothing. Though initially recognized for suits and coats, he shifted focus to sportswear, particularly interchangeable separates, setting the stage for his global acclaim. Klein’s groundbreaking achievements include winning three consecutive Coty Awards for womenswear from 1973 to 1975, making him the youngest designer ever elected to the Coty Hall of Fame in 1975. His design philosophy of creating “simple, comfortable but stylish clothes” resonated with buyers worldwide, symbolizing the maturation of the American fashion industry.

Emerged from the Bronx to revolutionize global fashion. His iconic designs, provocative ads, and controversial legacy define a legendary career that transcends the industry

Calvin Klein’s fame extends beyond his clothing collections. His provocative advertisements, featuring figures like Brooke Shields and Mark Wahlberg, stirred controversy and made headlines. The “nothing comes between me and my Calvins” campaign and the bold underwear advertisements positioned Klein as a trailblazer in marketing, challenging norms and pushing boundaries. In 2003, Klein sold his company to Phillips–Van Heusen in a deal valued at $430 million, securing his legacy as a fashion icon. Despite retiring in 2004, Klein’s impact on the industry continued, culminating in the 2017 publication of “Calvin Klein,” a comprehensive survey of his illustrious career. Beyond the fashion world, Klein’s personal life has been marked by significant events. His marriages to Jayne Centre and Kelly Rector, as well as his daughter Marci Klein’s prominent career in television, provide a glimpse into the designer’s multifaceted life. Klein’s support for the U.S. Democratic Party and his philanthropic contributions further illustrate his commitment beyond the fashion realm. Throughout his career, Klein garnered numerous awards, including outstanding design accolades from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and placement on the International Best Dressed List. His impact extended beyond fashion, making a cameo appearance on “30 Rock” and a fictionalized portrayal on “Seinfeld.” In recent years, Klein has continued to make headlines with real estate ventures, including a $75 million glass-and-concrete mansion in Southampton, New York, and acquisitions in Miami Beach and Los Angeles. Despite a low public profile in his retirement, Klein remains a figure of intrigue, recently generating controversy with the release of memoirs from his former partner, actor Nick Gruber. Calvin Klein’s journey from a budding designer in the Bronx to a global fashion icon is a testament to his creativity, innovation, and ability to shape the fashion landscape. As his legacy endures, the impact of Calvin Klein on the fashion industry remains immeasurable.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind: A Sci-Fi Masterpiece Exploring the Extraterrestrial in Spielberg’s Iconic Film 26 • JANUARY • 2024

Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind, released in 1977, remains a beacon of excellence in the realm of science fiction cinema. The film, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Melinda Dillon, and François Truffaut, weaves a captivating tale of otherworldly encounters, government intrigue, and the transformative power of a shared cosmic experience

I

n the realm of science fiction cinema, few films have achieved the timeless allure and critical acclaim that Steven Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” has garnered over the past four decades. Released in November 1977, the film marked a significant moment in cinematic history, blending Spielberg’s visionary storytelling with outstanding performances from a stellar cast. The narrative centers around Roy Neary, portrayed by the brilliant Richard Dreyfuss, a power line repairman whose life takes a dramatic turn after a close encounter with an unidentified flying object. As the government collaborates with international UFO researchers, including the enigmatic Claude Lacombe (played by François Truffaut), the film weaves a tale of mystery, obsession, and a quest for understanding. The film’s striking scenes unfold across various locations, from the Sonoran Desert to Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, providing a visually captivating backdrop to the unfolding extraterrestrial drama. The use of a unique musical phrase as a means of communication with aliens adds an innovative dimension to the film’s exploration of intergalactic connections. Spielberg’s passion project, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” was a result of meticulous planning and collaboration. The director had been working on the concept since 1973 and teamed up with a talented cast, including Melinda Dillon, Teri Garr, Bob Balaban, and the young Cary Guffey. The film’s visual effects, under the supervision of Douglas Trumbull, and the alien designs by Carlo Rambaldi, contributed to its immersive and otherworldly atmosphere. With a personalistic approach, the film unfolds through the perspectives of three characters, each deeply affected by encounters with the unknown. This unique storytelling choice adds depth and emotional resonance to the sci-fi spectacle. Over the years, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” underwent several editions, including the 132-minute original, the 137-minute Special Edition with additional scenes, and the 135-minute Director’s Cut released in 1998. Each version brought nuanced adjustments to the narrative, providing

audiences with new perspectives on the film’s iconic moments. Upon its release, the film received widespread praise for its originality and Spielberg’s directorial prowess. Unlike typical alien invasion movies, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” presented extraterrestrials in a peaceful light. The film’s global box office success, grossing $430 million worldwide, solidified Spielberg’s reputation as a maestro of the science fiction genre. The film’s impact extended to the Academy Awards, where it garnered eight nominations, including Best Director and Best Original Score. Vilmos Zsigmond clinched the Oscar for Best Photography, further highlighting the film’s technical brilliance. In 2007, the United States Library of Congress recognized the film as “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant,” cementing its place in cinematic history. The 4K remastering in 2017, coinciding with the 40th anniversary, allowed a new generation to experience the magic of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” As we celebrate this cinematic gem, it remains clear that Spielberg’s vision and the enduring themes of wonder and exploration continue to captivate audiences, making “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” an essential masterpiece in the science fiction genre.

INTERVIEW

My real estate company is based in Miami but covers all of South Florida from Miami to Fort Lauderdale to Palm Beach. The real estate market is booming here. More people migrated to Florida, and especially Miami post pandemic. I also represent unique trophy properties worldwide including a private island in Brazil, a peninsula in Sardinia as well as a polo estancia in Argentina among others.

CAREER OR JOURNEY:

How did you begin your journey in your field/interest? Could you take us through the key moments that have shaped your path so far? I chose an Ivy League education at Cornell University that provided an opportunity for me to study fashion, interior design and business. I also took courses in magazine writing and got published while in college. Cornell was a very social school with a big fraternity/sorority presence. I joined the one that attracted the blondes and we partied with the guys from sportsy frats. I did a semester internship in NYC and won the Glamour Magazine Top Ten College Women contest that year. I met nine other Glamour go-getters, some of whom became lifelong friends. We all appeared in the college issue that August. Upon graduation, I got the top paying job of my Cornell graduating class. It was with Colgate-Palmolive in their Sports & Recreation Division. This was perfect for me as a sports-oriented gal. It was also a very envied position. Colgate-Palmolive sponsored the world tennis tour, golf and the NYC marathon back then. I got to be front and center at these events and work closely with world-class athletes like tennis star, Bjorn Borg and golfer, Arnold Palmer. What inspired you to pursue your field/ interest, and why is it your chosen path? I have always chosen to make my passions my livelihood. Thus, sports, fashion, travel, art, architecture have been a thread throughout my career. I have honed my marketing skills over the years and across product categories. I like diversity and being on the cutting edge. I need to keep moving and learning all the time.

I AM PLANNING TO LIVE BETWEEN MIAMI AND MONACO WHILE TRAVELING THE WORLD”

31

INTERVIEW

Whispering Angel launched by Hope International.

Are there specific individuals, mentors, or role models who have had a significant influence on your journey? Rather than mentors, I was fortunate to work with many super talented individuals from all over the world and walks of life. World-class athletes, top fashion designers, supermodels, music artists, fine artists, renowned architects, vintners, yacht builders, business titans and more. It keeps my life interesting. I have met several presidents of countries and visited cities like Moscow just as Communism was ending. I like to discover new places around the globe and meet fascinating people. I am also a bit psychic and can predict future trends.

ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT:

Could you share some of your most significant or memorable achievements or experiences in your field or area of interest. It is hard to pinpoint specific achievements or experiences. They evolve over time. My fashion ad campaigns have won top International Film Festival Awards. I produced them on location in unique places from Alaska to Africa to Australia. I worked with country governments to organize our campaigns on their soil. The President of Brazil even lent us his private plane. I participated in the first and only Global Fashion Event in world history at the Sydney Opera House where Prince/King Charles and the late Lady Diana were honored guests. I have had the privilege of being hosted on Necker Island by Richard Branson for his Necker Cup tennis event. I sat right on the court during the U.S. Open in New York when my client was competing. I have been on set for a client’s Playboy centerfold photo shoot and met Hefner’s rival, Hustler founder, Larry Flynt. My experiences have crossed continents and industry categories. I am truly blessed. I believe you make your luck.

Looking back, what do you consider your most important work or contribution to date, and why? I have hired young, enthusiastic students right out of college and gave many their first job/career opportunities. Many are still my friends to this day. I have attended weddings and been there for my friends during both the highs and lows of life. I have helped launch companies that grown super successful. The Sasson jeans brand went from bankruptcy to over $300 million in sales before being sold. And the rose wine brand, Whispering Angel from Chateau d’Esclans which I was on ground floor launching made rose the new “it” wine worldwide. It caught the attention of prestigious luxury giant, LVMH which acquired it. I’ve built a global network traveling the world. High net worth individuals have entrusted me with their valuable real state.

FUTURE PLANS AND ASPIRATIONS:

What exciting projects, goals or plans do you have for the future in your career or area of interest? I am planning to live between Miami and Monaco while traveling the world. I have a book in the works that is my version of “Sex and the City”. I have a great title, but if I tell you, I will have to kill you. LOL. I would love to turn it into a Netflix series. How do you see your field evolving or changing in the coming years, and how do you aim to adopt or contribute to those changes? Technology is evolving at the speed of light. So much has changed in the course of my lifetime. I am a baby boomer, so I grew up before cel phones existed or high speed internet or social media or AI. I cannot even imagine what is on the horizon to come. I am planning to launch my own podcast in 2024. I’m still working on the name, format and focus. I may start it out a bit raw and rather than so slick and highly produced. People today seem to gravity more to genuine content and authenticity. I have a gift of gab and am a global citizen capable of talking about almost any topic.

oday, we are thrilled to invite the world to savor the essence of Mediterranean Gastronomy, a culinary voyage that transcends borders and unveils the cultural richness of the Mediterranean region. Rooted in centuriesold traditions, this gastronomic tapestry is a harmonious blend of diverse flavors, ingredients, and techniques that have stood the test of time. Mediterranean Gastronomy is a celebration of the unique culinary heritage practiced across the Mediterranean area. From the shores of Gibraltar

to the Bosphorus, encompassing vibrant cities like Marseille, Barcelona, and Genoa, this culinary journey traverses the islands of the Mediterranean— Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, Crete, and more. This region, blessed by the sun, sea, and olive groves, shares a common thread in its cuisine. At the heart of Mediterranean Gastronomy lies a trinity of essential ingredients: the olive, wheat, and grape. The olive tree, emblematic of the region, delineates landscapes and lives, symbolizing the culinary boundary. Wheat and grapes, integral to daily life, give rise to staples like bread, pasta, and wine, forming the pillars of this gastronomic tradition.

INGREDIENTS AND CULINARY ARTISTRY

The Mediterranean culinary journey is defined by a rich array of ingredients, including the renowned “Mediterranean trinity” of olives, wheat, and grapes. From the piquant flavors of cured olives to the delicate balance of fresh seafood, the cuisine is a symphony of tastes and textures. Fish and seafood take center stage, reflecting the proximity to the coastal treasures of the Mediterranean.
