Sacrament of Eucharist Infant Jesus Day 2022 School Spirit

two weeks it has been fantasSc to see so many parents join us for our Infant Jesus Day celebraSons and to recognise and celebrate our Dads and father figures last week. The involvement and support of parents greatly enhances our school spirit and strengthens the partnership between home and school.

Dear DuringParentsthelast

From the Principal

Infant Jesus Day 2022 had a similar schedule to last year with many parents joining us at Infant Jesus Church before the Sausage Sizzle lunch on the oval and the stalls in the adernoon. During the EucharisSc celebraSon there was standing room only for the very prayerful and memorable liturgy.

Ader the Mass the oval was ‘buzzing’ with more parents and friends joining us to celebrate the day. Following lunch there was also lots to do with over 20 stalls providing a variety of acSviSes, food and fun. Our extremely adaptable and enthusias6c staff co-ordinated the stalls. Our Year Six students also made a significant contribuSon with a large variety of stalls that they had organised. During the day staff and students served hundreds of very excited and generous customers. We are very thankful for this support as we raised over $500.00 which will assist Catholic Mission with their work in Australia and around the world.

At Infant Jesus School our Vision for Learning is based on our beliefs that all children are:

• competent and bring a wealth of experiences and knowledge to the learning task.

iShow, iExplain, iLearnt supports our goal to conSnue to develop a community that fosters lifelong learning and an aitude which promotes achievement of full potenSal in an environment embedded in our Gospel values.

Workshop, a Retreat and tomorrow, WeReconciliaSon.alsoacknowledge and sincerely thank the Parish Sacramental Team, lead by Mrs Theresa Choo and supported by Mrs Sue Goodwin for their dedicaSon, effort, support and adaptability in preparing the students for this wonderful Sacrament and celebraSon. We wish all the Year Four children and their families many blessings as they receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first Sme on Saturday 10 September at 11.00am or 2.00pm.

• involved in making choices which supports their unique way of learning.

During each

During Infant Jesus Day our P&F Sve of Vanessa Gai, Karen Holden and Giulia De coordinatedRizzo, the many volunteers with the cooking and distribuSon of hundreds of Sausage Sizzles for both the children and all our guests. We are very grateful for their enthusiasm and dedicaSon. Last week it was also fantasSc to welcome so many Dads and father figures last Friday adernoon for prayer and ‘Donuts with Dad’. It was wonderful to see so many at this gathering to recognise and celebrate our families. We very much look forward to connecSng with parents as they ajend i-Perform tomorrow, First Communion on Saturday and i-Show, i-Explain, iLearnt next week.

On Saturday our Year Four students will receive the Eucharist for the first Sme. This is a very special Sme for the students, their families and their teachers. Pope John Paul reminds us that we are all united through the Eucharist, that though we are many we share one bread. Bread is made up of many grains of wheat, but in the bread the difference between them is not apparent; likewise, we are joined to one another and united in Christ through the Eucharist. This weekend, with great excitement, we gather as families and as a faith community to celebrate our children as they receive the Eucharist for the first Sme. The Sacramental Program is Family Focused, Parish Based and School Supported. We thank our Parish Priest, Fr Greg and our Assistant Principals Miss Melissa Myles and Mr Frank Colangelo and our teachers, Mrs Bell and Ms O’Neill who have spent many weeks organising the programme which has included daily lessons at school, a Commitment Mass, a Parent MeeSng, a visit to the Year 4 class from Fr Greg, a Parent and Child

Next Monday 12 September 2022 we welcome parents to iShow, iExplain, iLearnt. This exciSng iniSaSve has been developed to provide another important opportunity to share the learning, achievements and progress of the children with their parents through Sme spent in the classroom.

Connected Learners

At Infant Jesus School, we believe in:

• Developing and maintaining a healthy partnership between the home, parish and school.

• A learning community that builds relaSonships and trust.

During each iShow, iExplain, iLearnt session children, according to their level of development, proudly share their knowledge, progress and achievements with their parents through a variety of learning areas and tasks organised to provide addiSonal informaSon and an experience of daily learning in the classroom. The iShow, iExplain, iLearnt session is a Sme to reflect and to celebrate the effort that all the children have applied to their work. It is also a Sme for the children to reflect and to share their knowledge and skills and how they conSnue to #ExpectGreatThings of themselves in all areas of iShow, learning.iExplain, iLearnt is also a Sme to recognise , teachers and educaSon assistants, who with great care, enthusiasm and experSse cater for the individual needs of every child. • Encouraging students of all ages to work alongside each other to form an Infant Jesus family and #ExpectGreatThings.

• To support and further enhance parent communicaSon and parScipaSon in school.

At Infant Jesus School, we provide a safe school environment where parents, teachers and students are working together to provide a supporSve and connected school culture. All parents of children in the school are members of the P & F AssociaSon. This AssociaSon is a community-based group, which has the primary funcSon of supporSng, providing community gatherings and parent involvement in the school.

• Encouraging relaSonships of mutual respect with one another, by developing empathy and care.

Social Media & Parents of Infant Jesus School

In signing the Enrolment ApplicaSon for Infant Jesus School all Parents/Guardians have agreed to abide by the procedures and direcSons of the school and the Catholic EducaSon Commission of Western Australia. This includes living out the Catholic Ethos of the school and supporSng a Christ-centred approach to all we do within our Infant Jesus School community. Within this signed agreement, Infant Jesus School expects Parents/Guardians to make responsible choices when using InformaSon and CommunicaSon Technologies at school. The guidelines outlined for Staff and Students equally apply to Parents / Guardians and the extended community.

The i-Excel iniSaSve has conSnued to provide extra-curricula opportuniSes this year where students parScipate individually or as a team.

Celebra6ng our Grandparents

Year Six Students have parScipated individually in the Speak Up awards and students in Year Five in a Mandarin Oral Language presentaSons. Both opportuniSes provided students with the experience of sharing their talents with a wider audience. Thank you to Ms Fei Liu for all her help in preparing the children for this compeSSon.

Parents need to be aware that using emails to communicate with staff will not receive an instant reply. In fact, response Smes may vary. Urgent majers must be directed by phone to the school office. Specifically, and in addiSon to the guidelines for Staff and Students, Parents/Guardians need to adhere to the Asfollowing.parents we need to: • Understand that correspondence during school Sme can only occur through the school office. Parents may not email children directly during school hours.

Next term, on Wednesday 19 October 2022, we will recognise the special gid of our grandparents. The adernoon event will be held outdoors at the Basketball Court, the Piazza and the School Hall from 2.30pm. There will be various displays and grandchildren will be the ‘tour guides.’ Adernoon tea will also be part of this special Foradernoon.catering purposes please ensure you have added your name and details on the form hjps://forms.office.com/r/tDSdaKppHL\

Congratula6ons

Last weekend some Year Five and Year Six students parScipated in the MathemaScs team event ‘Have Sum Fun’. This very challenging compeSSon required the students to work collaboraSvely to solve extremely complex mathemaScal problems. PreparaSon for this event has required some ‘training’ that was coordinated by Mr Silla and Ms Carroll to help the students further develop their understanding of a range of strategies to effecSvely solve the mathemaScal problems. It was a fantasSc experience for our students to be part of an event where more than 25 schools were represented.

As Infant Jesus School is a double stream school we are very fortunate that we can provide the opportunity for classes to be reset each year. This annual process supports students to enhance their social and emoSonal skills to enable them to work successfully and cooperaSvely with all students in their year level.

If there is something excepSonal that needs consideraSon in this process, we would presume that this has already been communicated with the school previously or at the very latest by the last day of this term. In this annual process we respectably ask that you do not request specific teachers for your child/children as this is not excepSonal.

Pre-Kindergarten places are limited so it is important that parents within the Infant Jesus School community submit their applicaSons as soon as possible. Forms can be obtained from the office. For further informaSon please contact Lucy at the school office on 92761769.

Enrolments are now being taken for siblings and new students wishing to commence Kindergarten at Infant Jesus School in 2023. Families with children eligible for Pre-Kindergarten in 2023 are required to fill out a Pre-Kindergarten Enrolment ApplicaSon Form.

At the end of this year Mrs Sue Bonomi will be reSring from her posiSon at Infant Jesus School. We are very grateful to Sue who has generously contributed to the development of our school for the last 25 years! Sue has worked in almost every year level in the teacher assistant role with most of her Sme being in early childhood. Sue is also very adaptable, and this year embraced a new role working in the Library. She will be conSnuing her work in the Library unSl the end of 2022. We will be recognising Sue at a later date and hope that she might stay connected with Infant Jesus School through relief work.

Ajendance Children who are three years of age can ajend this program. Program Full day program every Tuesday Half-day program each Thursday morning

Helping kids feel good by doing good Dr. JusSn Coulson - ParenSng Ideas We all want our kids to feel good. Ice cream, days at the beach and play dates may bring kids joy, but once they’re finished the good feelings oden disappear. These feel-good acSviSes give kids a rush of euphoria, but leave them craving for more. This can lead to an addicSve cycle known as ‘the hedonic treadmill’ where one cookie isn't enough. They'll need two. Maybe the next week, they’ll need three.

Good deeds Doing good, however, is the key to living a more meaningful and happier existence. The ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle knew it was true, and modern research bears out the fact altruisSc behaviours are associated with bejer wellbeing, health and longevity. In short, we feel good when we do good.

Every parent wants happy kids. The easiest way to help kids ajain happiness is to encourage them to be Manykind. studies show that our kids want to be kind. They know it makes them happy! Research shows that children from as young as fourteen months want to help others achieve individual goals and cooperate with others to achieve shared goals. This desire to help is something they’re born with – even that child of yours who doesn’t seem to want to help anyone!

• Make helping a family project. Get your kids involved when you take a meal to a family who have just had a new baby, or visit a sick friend in the hospital.

• Be a good neighbour. Help your kids learn to keep an eye on others, whether it is a neighbour, or a boy on their sports team. Teaching your kids to noSce what’s going on in the lives of people in their community promotes awareness and empathy.

• Encourage them to perform small acts of kindness. Being kind, giving a compliment, helping to Sdy upthese small acts are just as powerful and effecSve as larger tasks such as mowing the lawn for a neighbour.

• Be grateful. Expressing graStude is one of the best ways to do good. In fact, nothing can improve your life (and the life of others) like graStude. Doing good deeds is what makes us human. It lids burdens from others, and lids us by acSvaSng the joyful part of our brains. Teaching your kids to do good is the best way to help them have lasSng ‘feel good’ feelings. Of course, they should eat cake too. Even bejer, share it with a friend for

Here are 5 ways to do just that:

• Role model helpfulness and kindness. Children and teenagers learn to be helpful and kind by copying the significant adults in their lives.

Kind Kids

A recent landmark study showed even very young kids kind acts to be intrinsically rewarding. Two year olds showed greater happiness when they gave treats to others, compared to when they received treats themselves. Teaching Our Kids to Do Good If kids want to help because it helps them feel great, it’s our job to help fulfil this natural inclinaSon by guiding them to age-appropriate opportuniSes to do so.

Prayer As we celebrate First Eucharist on Saturday, we pray…. Loving Father You give each of us a special life and love in our families and Itcommunity.isthrough the experience of sharing and growing together that we deepen our experience of You. As we join with the children in this Sme of preparaSon before receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first Sme, We ask You to be with us in the power and gid of Your Spirit. We ask you to encourage all of us to be aware of the wonder of your sacramental gid and to deepen our union with You and with one another in the name of Jesus Your Son.

As you may be aware, our personalised 1-1 iPad Program will be moving into its eleventh year at Infant Jesus School. The children’s learning has been enhanced with the use of this technology. It has enabled the learning to occur in a variety of meaningful ways and it has empowered them to integrate tradiSonal learning with the use of technology to further improve their understandings.

We have planned a parent night on Wednesday 21 September at 6.00pm which will focus on digital ciSzenship and iPad use in the classroom.

• The grapheme wh for w/wh/u is most commonly used at the start of words (e.g. which, wheel).

Reminder: All students from Year 1 to Year 6 are able to log into Sound Waves with their class code. Class codes are available from classroom teachers.

Week 9 - oo/o oo is most commonly represented by the graphemes oo and u (e.g. good, push).

2. The Square Root of Two Is Called "Pythagoras' Constant. Surely, you remember the Pythagorean Theorem from your 10th grade geometry class, but have you ever heard of Pythagoras' Constant? Well, here's the lowdown: The square root of 2 (1.41) is known as Pythagoras' Constant. It's also the very first irraSonal number ever to be discovered. This all has to do with that Greek mathemaScian Pythagoras, and there is a fascinaSng history behind his famous theorem that they definitely did not teach you in high school—that Babylonian mathemaScians discovered his famous theory 1,000 years before he did!

The number 2 is also the smallest and first prime number (since every other even number is divisible by two).

• The grapheme u usually represents w/wh/u ader q or g (e.g. quit, square, penguin, language).

• W/wh/u is used at the start and in the middle of words, but never at the end of words (e.g. what, reward).

• The grapheme ve represents v/ve at the end of words (e.g. give, leave). Words in English do not end with the grapheme v, apart from a few slang words (e.g. rev).

Week 8 - v/ve and Week 9 -w/ wh/u

There are a total of zero zeros in Roman numerals. While the ancient Greeks were aware of zero as a concept, they didn't consider zero to be a number at all. For example, Aristotle decided zero wasn't a number because you couldn't divide by zero. Instead of a Roman numeral, the LaSn word "nulla" would have been used to represent the concept of zero. The reason no numeral existed for zero is because there was no need for a numeral to represent it. hjps://bestlifeonline.com/number-facts/

The Season of CreaSon is the annual ChrisSan celebraSon to listen and respond together to the cry of CreaSon: the ecumenical family around the world unites to pray and protect our common Thehome.Season “CelebraSon” begins 1 September, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of CreaSon, and ends 4 October, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology. During the Season of CreaSon, our common prayer and acSon can help us listen for the voices of those who are silenced. In prayer we lament the individuals, communiSes, species, and ecosystems who are lost, and those whose livelihoods are threatened by habitat loss and climate change. The burning bush is the Symbol for the Season of CreaSon 2022. In Kindergarten, we have been learning about people who help us and the buildings in our community. We have discussed and read books about different jobs that people have and the types of buildings they would work in. Ader looking at buildings in our community, the students chose a building to create using different mediums. They used the iPads, with assistance, to search for their chosen building. They then had a go at wriSng the name of their building, with assistance, and they created a popsSck version of themselves to join the community.
