UR STRONG COMMUNITY NEWS

From the Principal

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for this Year of Jubilee, a 8me of renewal and restora8on. May Your grace and mercy flow abundantly in our lives. Help us to forgive and be forgiven, to release and be released, and to find joy in Your presence. Guide us to live in harmony and peace, reflec8ng Your love in all we do. Amen.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

A very warm welcome to our first newsleCer for the year.

This year marks a special Jubilee Year for the Catholic Church, a significant event that occurs every 25 years. In his announcement, Pope Francis encourages us to "fan the flame of hope that has been given to us, and help everyone to gain new strength and certainty by looking to the future with an open spirit, a trusMng heart and far-sighted vision." Inspired by the message of Pope Francis, may we work together in insMlling hope in our students, empowering them with the resilience and spirit needed to face life's challenges and embrace its many blessings.

Staff have been busy working on updaMng our behaviour guidelines. Each year level has constructed a class purpose statement together and they have also looked at helpful and unhelpful behaviours in their classroom. Working together with our CEWA behaviour consultant, staff are finalising the class documents so that it can be included in our school guidelines. Once these have been completed, informaMon will be sent out to parents.

As part of our Incident Management Plan, regular drills occur throughout the year so that staff and students know what to do in case of an emergency. Our EvacuaMon Drill will occur on 26 February at 10am. If you are on school grounds at that Mme, you will also take part in the drill.

Our Year Six students will be parMcipaMng in their Leadership retreat on Wednesday 19 February. We look forward to presenMng them with their badges on Thursday 27 February at 9am.

Please note that our professional development day for staff this term is on Friday 28 February. There is no school for students on this day and on the Labour Day public holiday on Monday 3 March.

Enjoy the rest of the week

Any child remaining at school acer this Mme will be required to report to the school office and stay there unMl they are collected. All children are required to be picked up by 3:30pm at the latest. Parents are required to sign them out of the office. Thank you for your co-operaZon in this ma`er.

Staff are unavailable for meeMngs on Tuesday acernoons due to a whole school Staff MeeMng and Wednesday morning as they aCend morning prayer.

Update Contact Details

Please ensure that family details are up to date. At Mmes, office staff need to contact parents or carers urgently; however, they are unable to as phone numbers listed have changed.

A`endance

Staying away from school is only acceptable for legiMmate illness and extreme family circumstances. As a school we are legally responsible to report via an electronic program, all absence, every day, including conMnual lateness to school. Please make sure you are compliant with this legislaMon and assist by contacMng the school by 9.00am on the day of absence. Please also send a note upon return even if you have contacted by phone from the school. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Visitor Sign In

Schools have a ‘duty of care’ to students, staff, parents and visitors on site. To fulfil our ‘duty of care’ to everyone on the school site, all visitors to the school are required to sign in at the front office. This includes parent helpers.

This procedure ensures that the school can account for all individuals in the event of an emergency and it assists us to increase our ability to protect any student, staff or parent on site. The iPad is situated in the front office.

Parking and Drive Through Areas

Parking, especially at the beginning of the year, is very much at premium. Please be paMent with the parking situaMon. It will ease as the term progresses and more parents use the drive through to pick up and drop off children. We also ask parents to be considerate of otherS to ensure that traffic flows smoothly.

We need to be courteous to our neighbours and follow the No Standing street signs at all Mmes to avoid being issued with fines.

Drive Through

This is for parents who wish to drop off or pick up their child/ren without parking. Students will be supervised by a staff member to ensure they are collected safely by the child’s parents, or someone who has parental permission, at the end of the school day. Parents are reminded to be extra vigilant in their cars at this Mme as children depart the school grounds.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Parents are reminded of the Drop Off and Pick Up procedures for the school day. following these procedures greatly assist with the safely of all the children.

• Parents may drive from Peter’s Place into the school ‘drive through’ and drop children off by the entrance to the Hall

• Parents then need to drive out into Smith Street

• Please note this is ‘One Way’ only. This is also ‘Staff Parking Only’ to ensure that there are no moving vehicles during drop off and pick up

• At the school ‘drive through’ there is NO pedestrian traffic

Parking

• Church Carpark – this is the general carpark for our parents

• The Parent Carpark is designated as the parking zone for Three Year Old Kindy, Kindergarten and Pre-Primary parents. The Parent Carpark is a ‘One Way’ area – parents drive in from Russell Street and out into Lovegrove Way. Permit passes have been given to these parents as they need to park their car to drop off and pick up their children from the classroom.

As this area only accommodates less than 40 parking spaces, Pre-Kindy, Kindergarten and PrePrimary parents should sZll park at the Church Carpark or at Peter’s Place.

AdministraZon Carpark

This Car Park cannot be used to drop children off in the morning or pick them up during the acernoon as it is very dangerous with cars pulling

in and out at all Mmes. Parents may use this Car Park only for office business during the day between 9.30am and 2.00pm.

Supervision

It is very important that parents ensure that their children arrive at school no later than 8.30am so that they can unpack and get organised in order to start school promptly at 8.40am. Morning supervision is from 8.00am and children are not encouraged to arrive at school before this Mme. Class teachers (except Kindergarten) will have their classes open for the children from 8.30am.

Medical CondiZons

If your child has a medical condiMon, e.g. anaphylaxis or asthma, the required paperwork should have been completed and given to the School Office.

Students in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Pre-Primary will have medicaMons stored in the classroom; however, the School Office will sMll need to be noMfied of your child’s medical condiMon.

School Photos 2025

Monday, 17th February and Tuesday 18th February are School Photo Days! Every student will have their photo taken regardless of if they are purchasing photos or not. Your child should have brought home a unique online ordering key with their own shoot key. If your child has not brought one home please contact the front office.

Online ordering for photos closes on 13 March 2025. Any orders received by MSP acer this date will incur a $30.00 archive fee. If you wish to pay by cash, envelopes are available from the office. If you would like family photos taken, please obtain an envelope from the front office. Family photos can not be paid for online. Family photos for families with the youngest child in Kindy and above will take place on Monday. If your child is having a family photo please send them to school in their full school summer uniform. All family photos will be taken during the school day. Once school has received photos, family photos will remain at recepMon for parents to collect.

Year Three

A Busy Start to the New Year

The beginning of the year is always an important Mme for everyone to get back into the swing of things. One of the highlights so far has been the eagerness of our students to borrow books from the Library! It’s fantasMc to see how enthusiasMc everyone is about reading, and we’ve already seen many children excitedly choose new books to take home. We’ve been talking about the importance of reading regularly, and it’s clear that the students are enjoying exploring new stories and topics!

We’ve also spent Mme learning about staying safe online. This has been a key focus in our early lessons, as we want to make sure all our Year 3 students are responsible technology users. Our students have been engaged in these conversaMons, and we’re confident they are developing the skills to navigate the digital world safely.

It’s been a fantasMc start to the year, and we’re looking forward to all the learning, growth, and fun ahead. Stay tuned for more updates as we conMnue our Year Three journey!

Year Two

Our Class Purpose Statement

In Year 2, we have kicked off the school year by exploring the concept of family, both at home and in our classroom Through meaningful discussions, we have agreed that our class is a place where everyone belongs, supports each other, and has fun while learning. To celebrate our class family, we created handprints, symbolising the unique contribuMons we each make to our shared space. We have also shared ideas on how we can show kindness and care for one another. Together, we are building a classroom full of love and growth!

Year Two

The Magical Yet

In Year Two, we explored The Magical Yet, a heartwarming story about perseverance and the power of "yet." The story taught us that even when we can't do something yet, with determinaMon and a liCle magic, we can achieve our goals. Inspired by this message, the children reflected on something they haven’t mastered yet—whether it was riding a bike, tying their shoelaces, or solving tricky maths problems. With the help of their own Magical Yet, they wrote about something they want to achieve this year.

Safe School Framework

As a Catholic school within the Catholic EducaMon System of Western Australia we are commiCed to be a child safe organisaMon. We believe our children and young people have the right to be safe, feel safe and to be able to flourish in their learning and development.

At Infant Jesus School, the safety and well-being of our students is a highest priority and is of utmost importance. We are commiCed to child safety and ensuring that we have a child safe culture at our school. To do this, we apply the iniMaMve of the Catholic EducaMon Western Australia (CEWA) Child Safe Framework which comprises of nine elements that together help our students and children to be and feel safe. These elements are based on the latest research and recognised best pracMces. The nine elements combine to support a child safe culture founded on healthy and respecsul relaMonships.

At Infant Jesus School, we are using the nine elements of the Framework to idenMfy what we believe ‘best pracMce’ is and will conMnue to look like at our school. Our aim is to ensure that we have and conMnue to develop posiMve relaMonships and a child safe environment in our school. The explicit development of this at our school was idenMfied in the school’s annual improvement plan.

The Child Safe Framework applies to all Catholic Schools and care centres in Western Australia, and also to the staff, parents, volunteers and school communiMes. The Framework sets out best pracMce to develop the knowledge, mindsets, pracMce and behaviours that enable and sustain a child safe culture and wellbeing for all students in Catholic EducaMon WA.

• Parents to aCend InformaMon Nights – classroom based, presented by social worker, curriculum, etc.

• Parents to aCend Parent/Teacher meeMngs as requested by the teacher.

The nine elements of the Child Safe Framework are:

• Support and Healing

• The Voice of the Child

• Culture

• Governance and Leadership

• Policies and Procedures

• Human Resource PracMces

• InvesMgaMng and ReporMng

• Risk Management

• Quality Assurance

All staff at Infant Jesus School have been trained in Mandatory Repor M ng and have Police Clearances and Working with Children accreditaMon. Mandatory ReporMng training is updated each year, and Working With Children clearance needs to be updated every three years.

Creating a kinder world by empowering kids with friendship skills.

URSTRONG’s whole-school friendship strategy has improved the social climate in schools around the world, connecting over a million kids, parents, and teachers with a common language of friendship.

URSTRONG teaches kids what’s normal in a friendship and the diference between healthy and unhealthy friendships. In short, we teach kids how to become Friendship Ninjas.

Friendship Ninjas know how to put out common Friendship Fires® and how to combat Mean-on-Purpose behaviour by using their Quick Comebacks. Friendship Ninjas can get their friendships back into the Green Zone by taking steps to Talk-it-Out and they also understand that friendships can change and that’s okay too.

There’s a Friendship Ninja in all of us and URSTRONG helps kids discover theirs!

Discover everything URSTRONG has to ofer and sign up to your included Parent Membership at urstrong.com

psst! get that glossary on your fridge, then you can use our language of friendship too!

URStrong - Challenging Friendships

In the most challenging friendships, kids will someMmes have a hard Mme lisMng any examples of when the friendship works. However, we can ALWAYS find something. For example, maybe the only posiMve interacMon they feel okay with is being in the same room/ building as the other person. URSTRONG Schools teach children that, although kids do not have to be friends with everyone, they need to be kind to everyone. So, help your child find ways they can sMll show kindness – while honouring their boundaries.

InstrucZons

1. Watch the video with your child. hCps:// urstrong.com/resource/challenging-friendships/

2. Explain to them that it’s very normal that kids do not always click with everyone in their class or school. Share a story of a tricky friendship in your life.

3. Ask them, “Can you think of a challenging friendship?”

4. Empathise and remind them they are strong and there will be Mmes throughout their whole lives where they will be in situaMons where personaliMes clash. Say, “This is an opportunity for you to start pracMsing how to make the best of these tricky relaMonships!”
