Community Support Projects Following the Service Learning Approach
Two class projects were based on lesson plans following the service learning approach.
The first project was designed and implemented by Tl 3 students based on a theme in the History course: “Pollution of Seas and Oceans”. Students tackled the issue of pollution and recycling in Lebanon, more specifically on the school campus, and decided to deal with the recycling of plastic bottles in school. To that end, they designed and manufactured, with the help of the Physical Plants team, a recycle bin, displayed in front of the IC cafeteria to encourage the school community to recycle their water-plastic bottles. 1re 3 students joined the seniors with the efforts and worked on a video to explain the initiative and its objectives and to spread awareness on the topic of recycling. The second service learning project was conducted by 1re 5 students based on a lesson plan in “Education Morale et Civique” (EMC) on social inequality, more specifically the inequality between education in public schools and private schools. Students visited Laure Moghaizel Public School, met with students, and listened to the challenges and struggles they faced during this academic year. As a result, students wrote an article to highlight the inequalities between public and private schools. The article is a plea to call for immediate action to save education in public schools in Lebanon.
