Enviromental Sustainability
Towards a Green School in Ain Aar - 3ème B / Grade 9 CPP
This interdisciplinary project aspires to transform the Ain Aar Campus into a green school. Through the different disciplines, students acquired knowledge and skills that demonstrated that they are environmentally responsible citizens who act towards improving the sustainability of their community. After welcoming two guest speakers who respectively explained to them the concepts and criteria of a Green School and the techniques of an “Energy Audit”, students implemented an energy audit and took room measurements in the different classes in order to identify the needed number of solar panels to install on the Ain Aar campus. Then, they drafted an action plan and a feasibility study for the installation of solar PV panels at Ain Aar. Students then pitched their project to Mr. Joel Peinado, IC President and to the Middle School Director, who supported their idea and will explore possible ways to make it a reality!
Oceans’ Acidification - 3ème A - Ras Beirut
In the frame of the 3ème A interdisciplinary project “Values and Ethics of a Responsible Citizen”, students worked in chemistry on oceans’ acidification in Lebanon, as part of their unit related to acids and bases. Students explored the causes and effects of oceans’ acidification in Lebanon. After welcoming Ms. Agness Nohra from the NGO “diaries of the Ocean”, who thoroughly explained to them the main causes underlying this environmental challenge, the chemical reactions leading to water acidification and the potential solutions to fight against this problem, our students conducted research, collected water samples from different seas in Lebanon, measured their acidity, and led interviews with key stakeholders engaged in preserving Lebanon’s marine resources. Then they created animations to communicate their findings to the community, in order to raise awareness about the gravity of this problem and on the importance of responsibly conserving our marine ecosystems.
