L’Oréal - Arc en ciel Waste Sorting Competition

In partnership with Arc en Ciel, L’Oréal-Garnier Liban launched a plastic sorting competition among different schools across Lebanon. IC’s grade 10 students took part in this competition whose objective is to raise youth’s awareness on the importance of fighting plastic pollution through correct sorting and recycling and to motivate them to take a step forward towards a greener Lebanon and a more sustainable planet. After one month of plastic collection, our seconde D students were able to collect the biggest amount of plastic and, in return, were rewarded by L’Oréal-Garnier with goodie bags including products from Garnier. Congrats!
Grade 11 Environmental Interdisciplinary and Service Learning Projects
As part of their interdisciplinary and service learning projects, three groups from grade 11 tackled environmental topics. Students of the different groups worked on installing energy efficient products (LED lights and sensor faucets) in the School of Blind and Deaf; collecting recyclable waste from different small markets through bins placed by the students and collected by “A7la Fawda” in exchange for food provision boxes given by the NGO to underprivileged families; implementing a sustainable waste sorting system in a public school in Abediah (in collaboration with Green Mount Recycling); and creating an active filtering straw to provide clean potable water for underprivileged families.

Students implemented an aquaponic model as part of their service learning project, to raise the community’s awareness on this sustainable agricultural technique.
