Mitigating Forest Fires - CE2 / Grade 3

As part of their unit of inquiry “How We Organize Ourselves”, CE2 and Grade 3 learners in Ain Aar inquired into how human activities transform systems in Nature. Students visited the Bentael Nature Reserve - oldest nature reserve in Lebanon. They explored the ecosystem and learned that the forest was very threatened by human-induced forest fires. Then, they welcomed two guest speakers from the NGO “Lebanon Reforestation initiative” (LRI) who raised their awareness about the causes and consequences of forest fires in Lebanon, and the means to prevent them. After reflecting on how human actions can have harmful impacts on natural systems and on their responsibility in preserving natural ecosystems, they decided to act by creating awareness material about forest fires in Lebanon and ways to mitigate them.
