HEADERPARTNER PROUD OF THE MASSBTC RECOVERY COALITION On September 30, IBEW Local 103 was proud to join U.S. Secretary of Labor, Martin J. Walsh, Massachusetts Building Trades recovery leaders and allies at the kickoff event for MassBTC’s Recovery Coalition. The Massachusetts Building Trades Council (MassBTC) launched the new coalition for MA construction workers struggling with substance abuse and addiction. It creates a free-of-charge network of support and resources designed to aid in long term recovery. The coalition also aims to break the stigma that surrounds addiction and often bars those who need it from seeking help.

In honor of National Recovery Month (September), the event featured a forum discussion about the challenges of recovery. It also highlighted the proven-effective, peer-to-peer recovery model that the Recovery Coalition will offer participants, and announced a statewide public education campaign. The public education campaign will promote a wide range of resources — including counseling and treatment, weekly peer-to-peer support meetings at union halls, and personal facilitation and advocacy by union recovery leaders and coordinators.
