Since our founding in 1900, IBEW Local 103 has been the backbone of this city’s electrical infrastructure, ensuring fair wages, safer working conditions, and familysustaining careers for generations of electricians and technicians.
This milestone—125 years of strength, solidarity, and success—is more than a reflection of our history; it’s a testament to the power of our brotherhood and the impact of our work. From lighting Boston’s most iconic landmarks to leading the charge in cutting-edge infrastructure and major transit projects, Local 103 continues to shape the future of our city.
The demand for our expertise remains stronger than ever. Landmark projects like the modernization of South Station and MGH’s next-generation medical facility are proof that our skill and commitment keep Boston moving forward. Our mission isn’t just about today—it’s about the future we are building together, honoring the legacy of those who came before us while forging a path for the next generation.

For 125 years, IBEW Local 103 has thrived because of the strength and dedication of its members—our active workers, retirees, apprentices, and families. Beyond the job site, our partnerships with local sports teams allow us to give back in meaningful ways—providing unforgettable experiences and charitable contributions to local youth while showing them firsthand the power of teamwork and the promise of a career in the electrical trade. The challenges we face may evolve, but our commitment never wavers: we’ll keep pushing forward, advocating tirelessly, and collaborating with our signatory contractor partners to secure the best work opportunities for our membership.
Thank you for being part of this legacy. Here’s to making 2025 a year of pride, unity, and progress for IBEW Local 103!

Local 103 had the honor of hosting Governor Maura Healey as she signed Massachusetts’ groundbreaking Climate & Clean Energy Bill into law. This moment isn’t just a win for clean energy—it’s a win for union workers, IBEW families, and the future of our communities. By streamlining permits for wind, solar, and battery storage projects, Massachusetts is setting an example for how to build a greener future while creating real opportunities for workers.
But our union has been busy securing more than just clean energy jobs. We’ve also secured a major win for unions with game-changing Project Labor Agreement (PLA) legislation. The Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate passed language authorizing PLAs on public projects as part of the larger Economic Development bill, which will protect workers’ rights, ensuring fair wages, benefits, and safe working conditions. This win was made possible by the thousands of union members who made their voices heard, from the job sites to the State House steps.
Adding to this momentum, Governor Healey just signed an Executive Order to promote the use of PLAs on large public works projects. Announced at the Massachusetts Building Trades 106th Annual Convention, the order directs state agencies to evaluate PLAs for public projects over $35 million. This ensures
that construction projects are completed on time, within budget, and create good-paying jobs for all workers.
Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, we rallied to defeat a corporate-backed “Right to Work” (RTW) bill that threatened union strength across the region. Our collective efforts resulted in a big victory: the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted 200-180 to indefinitely block RTW legislation, preventing it from resurfacing for at least two years.
If passed, RTW would have made New Hampshire the first right-to-work state in New England, setting a dangerous precedent. We know the real goal of these laws: to cut off union resources, weaken workers’ bargaining power, and tip the scales in favor of corporations. In RTW states, workers earn about $10,000 less per year than those in strong union states like Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
IBEW Local 103 will always stand on the side of unions and working families. Whether it’s securing victories for clean energy jobs, ensuring fair contracts on public projects, or stopping corporate-backed attacks on labor, we will never back down. Together, we’re building a stronger future for all workers.

This past holiday season, IBEW 103 came together to give back, making a meaningful impact on families in need across Greater Boston.
For the 11 th consecutive year, we hosted our Holiday Toy & Clothing Drive, collecting an incredible 10,000 toys and clothing items for local children and families. Thanks to the generosity of our members and contractors, these donations were swiftly packed and delivered to nearly a dozen local organizations and shelters,
providing warmth and holiday cheer to more than 6,000 individuals experiencing homelessness.
Giving back is at the heart of who we are. When a child needs a gift, 103 makes it happen.
Together, we’re strengthening our communities and bringing joy where it’s needed most.

The program is designed to prepare those between the ages of 18 and 24 for consideration into the IBEW 103 apprenticeship program and successful careers in clean energy. The program is aimed at addressing the demand for clean energy solutions and the need for a skilled workforce to install, maintain, and upgrade clean energy systems well into the future.
