Thanks to a new partnership with the renowned Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT), Local 103 members can now apply both field experience and course work toward the completion of an Associate’s Degree of Science. Participants will receive 36 credits towards the BFIT Engineering Technology and Renewable Energy Technology degree, about 50% of the credits required for the degree. This is an incredible opportunity to further your career while receiving credit for the training you’ve already completed. Participants can complete the remaining degree requirements over a two-year period at a 40% discount, taking as little as one course at a time. The majority of courses will be online, and required labs will be fulfilled at the IBEW Local 103 campus in Dorchester. This new partnership will allow IBEW Local 103 members to further hone their craft, to gain a unique and more robust understanding of an increasingly critical facet of our trade (renewable energy), and earn college credentials that will expand career opportunities.
As the US works towards renewable energy and sustainability, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 105% employment growth for solar energy (photovoltaic) installations and 96% growth for wind turbine technicians by 2026. IBEW Local 103 and the Boston JATC are proud to already be leading the way in green technology training, and this partnership will further ensure that our union is ready to meet the workforce needs of the future.
