PASTOR’S Words: “Focus, Flow and Pentecost Power”

On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. (Acts 2:1-4, NLT) There are two epic number one birthdays in the month of May, Pentecost and Dr. K! This is not a coincidence. And we as a family of faith are intentional when it comes to combining the two. Why? Because, both represent new beginnings!

With every new beginning comes a need to focus. Focus - “the center of interest or activity.” (Dict. Oxford Languages) My spin on the meaning, is to pay strict attention to someone or something. Those 120 women and men tarrying in that upper room 2021 years ago, {prayed} strict attention on the old testament promises, found in the prophetic book of Joel: “Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions. In those days I will pour out my Spirit even on servants—men and women alike. And I will cause wonders in the heavens and on the earth— blood and fire and columns of smoke The sun will become dark, and the moon will turn blood red before that great and terrible day of the Lord arrives. But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, (Joel 2:28-32a) while flowing in fellowship with one another. They were full of expectation, yet not knowing what to expect. Well that absolutely sounds like a birthday celebration. And some of that most memorable birthdays are the ones that exceed your expectations and over delivers! The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon all flesh was on purpose. It was done to release our divinely human ability to proclaim grace and truth, by thought, word and deed! Pentecost Power is the divine ability in you ( to the Overflow) to carry out the purposes of God on earth as it is in heaven! We this month are celebrating Dr. K’s Birthday and Thirty Years in Ministry as a Daughter of Thunder and as a overflowing vessel of the Holy Ghost! No wonder our 6:00 am Worship experience every Sunday is called “ The Outpouring with Dr. Kellie V Hayes”. However, be very clear that the two celebrations are a good excuse for God to make this miracle month be your new beginning, exceeding all of your expectations! Get ready to pray strict attention to what comes next in your life, and that next is YOU!!!! Agape

Let’s Pray a Hedge of Protection Around Our Pastor

Father, I extol Your name. You are the covenant keeping God. Marriage is a covenant that You have established to show the world Your intended plan for the church which is Your preparing bride. I lift up my pastor’s marriage unto You. I pray that my pastor loves his wife purely and sincerely with the agape love of God. I pray that they will take some time away from ministry to spend quality time with each other. May they always be each others closest friend and confidant. I thank You Father that they will always live their lives as an open book. Your Word declares that we are to be living epistles to be read of men. May integrity always guide their every decision and action. I pray that they will keep You first and each other as their next priority and responsibility. I pray that they always walk in forgiveness, forbearing one another in love, not rendering evil for evil. I pray that they will always have mutual respect and adoration for each other. Always having one another’s back as true partnership should. Bless them with many years of happiness, prosperity, and abundant joy. In Jesus Name, Amen. (PRAYER FROM DEBORAH L. GRANT’S “HAVE YOU PRAYED FOR YOUR PASTOR LATELY?”)

New Partner Care & Discipleship Ministry Moment: “Celebrate Wellness, Wholeness and Friendship”

By Rev. Kimberly Anne Giles

John 14:25-27 (MSG) states, “The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left-feeling abandoned, bereft.” As we celebrate Pentecost Sunday this month, I believe God wants us to remember and truly live a well and whole life! Wellness is the state or condition of being in good physical and mental health, and wholeness is an undivided or unbroken completeness or totality with nothing wanting. In other words, God has purposed and planned for us to be healthy from the top of our head to the very soles of our feet. God is also reminding us of the great friendship and companionship that is available with Him as the Holy Spirit lives in us. His presence in us makes us whole beings that lack no good thing! If you have difficulty celebrating this truth allow God to place a “spiritual jumper cable” on your mind, to help you remember! Affirm yourself and say out loud, “I am well! I am whole! I have a friend that will not leave me or forsake me!” Then give God a big handclap of praise for His wonderful parting gift to you as you celebrate your wellness, wholeness, and friendship!

Monthly Meditation: “Bring May Flowers” By Rev. Christian Belton “For lo, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone. 12 The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove. Is heard in our land. (Song of Solomon 2:11-12, NKJV) “The Sovereign Lord will show his justice to the nations of the world. Everyone will praise him! His righteousness will be like a garden in early spring, with plants springing up everywhere” (Isaiah 61:11, NLT). “April showers bring May flowers.” I cannot remember the first time that I heard this saying but more than likely you have heard this phrase before as well. It refers to how the month of April is usually full of rain showers and then the month of May begins a consistent season of warm weather and beautiful flowers. Oh how we can apply this saying to our lives. Sometimes we must endure a season of heavy rainstorms before we enjoy the blossoming of plants and flowers. I give thanks to the rain. The rain prepares the soil to bring forth a field full of beautiful flowers. Flowers represent growth, life, and beauty. We have endured many rainstorms and just when it looks like the sun is coming out, the clouds come out and down comes more rain. But allow me to encourage you today with these words “the sun will shine again.” And when it does you will see flowers - growth, beauty, life - springing up all around you. But let us not wait for the rains to subside in order to see the beauty in the midst of it all. Bring your own flowers into this month of May. What do I mean? Okay, I love flowers. And for the longest I have wanted these roses called Kaleidoscope Roses. They are so beautiful and colorful. One day in March I decided to treat myself to a bouquet of these roses. It wasn’t my birthday, a special holiday, or anything else. I brought my own flowers to remind myself that I don’t always have to wait for a reason, I am reason enough. And so are you. We have made it through a whole lot of showers. Take a moment to breathe and bring flowers into this month of May. Think of all of the flower moments that you can give God thanks for. Give God thanks for all of the Mothers that are still here with us. Give thanks for the Mothers that are now a part of the great cloud of witnesses watching over us. Give thanks for our families. Give thanks for our friends. Give thanks for our church family. Give thanks for you. Praise God for every good thing and may flowers begin to appear and the songs of hope begin to ring in your land.

HEALTHY, WEALTHY, & WISE: May Is National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month Since 1984, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) has declared May to be “National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.” It is a peak season for people with asthma and allergies, and a perfect time to educate patients, family, friends, co-workers, and others about these diseases. More than 60 million Americans overall have asthma and allergies. About 25 million Americans have asthma (19 million adults and 6.2 million children). About 32 million Americans have food allergies (26 million adults and 6 million children). About 21 million Americans have hay fever, rhinitis, or nasal allergies (20 million adults and 5.6 million children) These numbers paint a picture of how many people in the U.S. are managing asthma and allergies. But they do not paint a picture of the overall impact these diseases have on people and communities. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and the MedicAlert Foundation have teamed up to raise awareness about asthma and anaphylaxis. The goal of this partnership is to help you manage your conditions and prevent life-threatening medical emergencies. What Is Allergic Asthma? Allergic Asthma is caused by breathing in an allergen, which is a substance that can cause an allergic reaction. Airborne, year-round allergens, such as pet dander or dust mites are commonly called allergic triggers. Allergic asthma is the most common type of asthma. There are approximately 26.5 million people in the US with asthma. About 60% (6 out of 10) of people with asthma have allergic asthma. For school-age children, this number is closer to 80%. COVID-19. This is more important now more than ever in light of COVID-19 (the new coronavirus). With many health care providers stressed, the best thing you can do is to keep your asthma and allergies under control to avoid a trip to the emergency department. Always remember to stay touch with your physician team when any symptoms occur. Sources: www.aafa.org/asthma-and-allergy | Submitted by: Sister Denise Brown-Fryar
