Youth football roundup Sub-varsity roundup The Howe 5th and 6th grade Bulldogs (3-5) upset the number two seed S&S (6-2) in Trenton Saturday. After the Howe defense shut down the Rams on the opening drive, Garrett Rodgers ran behind his offensive line gaining nine to 10 yards at a time dragging S&S defenders with him. On a called pass play Beaudy Kuykendall tucked it and scrambled into the endzone from 15 yards out. Howe kicked it back and held S&S to one first down when Charles “Furball” Fuhr intercepted an S&S pass. The Dogs took a 6-0 lead into the half. S&S broke it open for a touchdown on their first offensive play of the half. The Howe boys didn't quit however as on thefirst offensive play, Zach Ganow went right up the middle for 25 yards setting up a second big run by Rodgers to the endzone. Gavin Rodgers converted the PAT to give Howe a 13 -8 lead. Mariska Hathorn ended the ensuing S&S drive when she picked off her first interception for Howe. The defense held S&S for the remainder of the game and Howe came up with the upset win and will now advance to play Leonard (6-2) in the second round next Saturday. The Howe K-2nd grade Bulldogs (7-1) advanced over the Bells Panthers (1-6) who forfeited.

They will advance to play Blue Ridge next week at Collinsville’s high school field at 10:30 am. The Howe 3rd and 4th grade Bulldogs were eliminated this week by Blue Ridge in a 6-0 contest.

Pottsboro is not only good at the varsity level, but they displayed their system on Thursday as well. Against the seventh grade, the Cardinals scored with 1:32 left in the first to take a 6-0 lead. A Howe fumble set up another score with 6:35 left in the second to make the score 14-0. Another Howe fumble set up another touchdown to make it 22-0 at the half. Another red score took place on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it 30-0 for the final score.

However, the Bulldogs would fight back with a 54-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Campbell to Jones which made the score 2214. Jones again scored on a 55yard run to tie the game at 22-22. The Cardinals answered right back to make it 28-22 and eventually added a late touchdown to bring the final score to 34-22.
