Chamber and KHB planning for Downtown Howe-lloween and chili-cookoff

Very few will be able to tell, but an issue with our third-party publishing company caused a great panic last week. Our publication had to be completely replicated at the last hour through another program and was finalized just hours before it was to be sent out at 8 am. This may have been a blessing in disguise as we think the new system is perhaps better than the old one. I guess we’ll find out. Michelle Carney, our photographer, was not able to make it to the game Friday night. Therefore, Jennifer Daniels filled her place. Daniels has a freshman son on the varsity team. Being on the sidelines, she got an up close look at the undefeated Pottsboro Cardinals which drew this response, “Some of their players were seven feet tall and tattoos everywhere. My boy doesn’t even have a learners permit to drive yet. Those were grown men out there.” If high schools and universities taught courses in World Corruption alongside World History, how many chapters and semesters would be dedicated to the Council on Foreign Relations? Perhaps this class could be administered by H.R. McMaster. His resume would make him the ideal candidate.

Pottsboro’s 42-3 win makes it nine-straight over Howe

Downtown Howe-lloween Festival 2018. The Howe Area Chamber of Commerce is preparing for their 3rd Annual Downtown Howe-lloween Festival. The date is set for Oct. 26 from 6 pm— 9pm on Haning Street. The idea of a downtown Trunk ‘R Treat type of event began in 2017 when members of FUMC (First United Methodist Church) approached the chamber about combining to make one big event downtown. The first year saw a great

number of people downtown, but last year’s crowd grew exponentially from the first year. “This event helps Howe by attracting people to our downtown area and letting people know that we are an active community,” said Robert Cannaday, president of the Howe Area (Continued on page 2)

The Howe Bulldogs (2-5; 1 -2) traveled to Pottsboro Friday night where Howe hasn’t had a victorious bus ride home from the land of red since 1988. Pottsboro (7-0; 3-0), who has dominated Howe since the middle of the last decade, picked up their ninthstraight win over Howe. Head Coach Matt Poe moved to 12-1 lifetime against Howe with the Dogs’ only win coming in 2010. On Friday night, the Cardinals continued their onslaught of teams on their schedule as they racked up a 42-3 win over Howe which was basically over at the half. Howe had a few opportunities to score and were in the thick of the game until midway through the second quarter when a drive stalled deep in Pottsboro territory and ended on a missed 33-yard field goal attempt. From that point forward, the Cardinals ran away. The game began with (Continued on page 3)
