Late Leonard surge downs Howe
a
Mason Riggs. Michelle Carney/Howe Enterprise The Bulldogs (7-4, 3-3) came up short in another nail-biting district game. On Friday night, Howe and Leonard traded leads several times before the Tigers finally came out on top with a 5-3 win. Mason Riggs started the game for Howe before being relieved by Dyson Dillard and Peyton Reagan. Riggs pitched under stress for most of the game as Leonard left 10 runners stranded in the first five innings. The Dogs tied the game in the fifth inning when Cade Courtney reached base on an error that left the door open for a two out rally. Courtney scored on a wild throw
from a grounder by Spencer Akins. Kyler Anderson then singled home Akins. Garret Johnson tied the game in the sixth inning at 3-3 with a grounder followed by a Riggs triple to center. The Tigers scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning with a walk, a single, and a double. Howe's Parker Blount opened the final inning with a pinch-hit single up the middle and was sacrificed to second. But a strikeout and a pop fly to right ended Howe's chance for another comeback walk-off.
