Howe Mercantile celebrates anniversary with new dealers Howe Mercantile celebrated its one-year anniversary on April 23, 2016 with surprise discounts for every item purchased in the shop. This unique antique and gift shop has experienced an increase in sales each month, they say, due to the support of Howe customers and from the surrounding communities.
Lights dawn the top of the northeast corner of Haning and Denny Streets. The City of Howe purchases lights for the downtown area just before Christmas, however, they were not installed in time for the parade. But with Founder's Day looming, the city thought it was a good time to have the lights installed in time for the big weekend that started with Friday night's Hall of Honor celebration.
The bulbs are LED C9's which require very little electricity. They are tied to photocell devices which will light the downtown buildings from dusk to dawn. The plan is for the lights to stay on year-round as the renovation of downtown continues.
Four new sellers have joined Lyn, Marilyn, Georgia, and Brett offering special items that are hand-selected just for shoppers. An important feature of the shop is to offer local artisans a place to show their wares. Keely Lynch from Squirrel Creek Natural Products provides all-natural products for your best pooch friend. Chris East and Cathy Trewitt have stocked some of the most unusual and varied antiques and collectibles to be found anywhere. Debbie Lowery's incredibly soft scarves are sewn in every color and Jennifer McGovern creates beautiful and fanciful jewelry. Mama Suzy bakes scrumptious goodies each week for your munching pleasure. A backyard sale was held on Founder's Day right behind Howe Mercantile and Texas Home Emporium with bargains galore. A portion of each backyard sale was donated to the Save the Church project.
