Howe ISD wins $15,000 grant with community collaboration The Howe ISD will be receiving a $15,000 grant thanks to a community effort that pushed a vote total to nearly 10,000. Howe entered into a contest through Collaboration Nation and made a video to showcase the district’s finest example of ed-tech collaboration and its measurable impact on learning and teaching. Howe ISD was second in the online voting for most of the April 1-15 daily voting period, however, in the last week pulled out the win by collaborating the entire community as well as getting media attention from local newspapers, radio and tv stations. "I thought our video displayed one of the best examples of collaboration between educators, students, parents and our community that I could ever imagine, but in the last 15 days, I have witnessed a new level of collaboration among my constituents that has truly been amazing." Howe's local food pantry officially cut the ribbon on Sunday. Since opening in late 2015, Feed My Sheep food pantry has served numerous families in need of food assistance. To receive services, a picture ID and two (2) proofs of residencey are required. The name on the proofs of residency must match the ID. Feed My Sheep's service area includes all of the Howe Independent School District. The pantry is open on the first and third Saturday each month from 9 am until noon. Clients can visit the pantry once per month.
Keep Howe Beautiful picks up 28 bags of trash
Keep Howe Beautiful had 39 total volunteers to help pick up trash throughout the city. The group collected 28 trash bags full of garbage. The frequent flyer in the littering category went to two groups of people - smokers and drinkers as the majority of trash seen on Highway 5 was cigarette cartons and beer cans. That indicates that our younger generation is much better a Keeping Howe Beautiful than the older generation.
