City repairs playground at Memorial Park; ready for spring
The City of Howe spent Wednesday repairing the slides and playground equipment at Memorial Park at the corner of Kosse Street and Denny Street. The park was dedicated in 1992 and initially made in honor of Leisha McCarthy who lost her battle with a disease at a young age. After complaints from citizens that the playground was broken and in need of repair, City Administrator Joe Shephard sent the city
crew to make the necessary repairs as well as mow the park. Bert Dowlen, Blake Hamner and Mickey Phillips all worked on the park to get it ready for the spring. If there are concerns with city parks, please email khb@cityofhowe.org and describe the situation in detail. The City has been fortunate in recent years
with New Beginning Fellowship agreeing to maintain the park as far as mowing and beautifying. The Howe Fire Department has taken the responsibility of mowing the baseball and softball fields over the past several years. Howe youth baseball and softball parents have done an excellent job in upgrading and maintaining the facilities at all of the youth ballparks.
Wind damage leads to building repair High winds that swept through North Texas last week caused one downtown business to make unexpected building repairs. Don's Smokehouse owner Steve Davis of his building at 111 E. Haning St. noticed bigger problems after the winds blew down his sign that read, "Butcher Shop." A new sign is in the process of being ordered. Don's Smokehouse does online sales and tradeshow events and are not open the public.
