EDITORIAL LETTER

HOTEP,

This edition is dedicated to the Level Up! We are more than we know or can think of. We are eternal beings taking part in a temporary existence, act accordingly - ASE

Awakening the Higher Self: A focus on the art of self elevation.

W

hat does man believe to be true? What does man know of his true self? Well, those questions are left up to you and your understanding. Most divine understandings speak of meditation and stillness to hear the everlasting spirit man also known as the inner man. Through the ages the Higher Self has been

given numerous names: the internal identity, soul, Christ-consciousness, Buddha of Enlightenment, Soul and true self. The greater part of all, our Higher Selves have been thought of as the most profound, most perfect essence lying within us. Yet, in spite of these names a large number of us still struggle to understand the Higher Self and its role in our lives. However, how might we transform this

topic from an intellectual concept into a feeling that we experience? We are all like the lakes in this story. We believe that we are separate, isolated and cut off because of the ego. But something within us (the Inner-man or god) continuously pushes us closer to the divine truth through the voice of intuition, instinct and gnosis. Consequently, in life we have an

illuminating moment of self-realization or remembrance: that we are rivers which are connected to the Great Ocean. The waterways represent the Higher Self. The Great Ocean represents Spirit, Source or Oneness. Learn to love yourself (the Higher Self). Peace and Black Love

THE FINAL CALL

UNDER PRESSURE When someone decides to threaten, stalk, harass or abuse his or her partner, what might that victim do? Some contend that Black women specifically are more reluctant to disclose domestic violence than other ethnicities for several different reasons, one of which is entrenched in Black culture.

few years back I was in a situation where I needed to make a life altering judgement call that would free me from self-inflicted harm and further emotional setbacks. Sometimes in life we attempt to pursue our own life plan. However, we are not fully capable of doing that because there is someone or something higher than us that guides those decisions and has a destiny for our life that will yield great rewards.Through our fleshly thinking we end up with delayed outcomes and continuous failures. As time goes by these negative patterns become entrenched in your very being. That reminds me of a past relationship where I was in love with my partner James for 3 years until our lives started to change. James became harmful to himself through recreational drug usage. In particularly, his choice of drug was cocaine and pills with the addition of alcohol.

AS HIS ADDICTIONS GREW, IT STARTED TO PROMPT VIOLENT BEHAVIOR PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY IN OUR RELATIONSHIP.

Something, which we will say is the “higher-self” told me that it is time to choose another path instead of this abusive relationship. All of us at one point in our lives have had a gut feeling or an instinct that

agittarius is the ninth of the 12 signs of the zodiac, which begins its cycle late fall every year during Sagittarius season—which falls around November 22-December 21. Whether or not you have Sagittarius planetary placements in your chart, it’s important to understand the energy of this sign, as various planets

HALF-MAN, HALF AMAZING

Truth-seekers to their core, Sagittarians are always on the search for answers and questioning others to get an end result. They love the search and find

themselves being pulled in many different directions but this is what fuels their broad-minded approach to life. Their internal quest is aided with keen interest in philosophy and religion. What is True Religion? True Religion implies that science and religion are one and therefore the Brotherhood of Light Spiritual Text on this sign states that “True Religion

is the Discernment of the Divine Plan and a Conscious Cooperation in its Fulfillment.” Another way this thought is expressed in The Sacred Tarot: “Remember, then, son of earth, that the empire of the world belongs to them who possess the sovereignty of spirit, that is to say, the light which makes clear the mysteries of life. In the end, the Sagittarius wants most to know the meaning of life, and to accomplish this while being free as a bird uncaged and untamed. Literal Substance Editorial

n WHY BLACK WOMEN STRUGGLE MORE WITH DOMESTIC VIOLENCE The reasons Black women suffer disproportionately from abuse are complex. Racism and sexism are two of the biggest obstacles that Black women in America face. But because many Black women and men believe racism is a bigger issue than sexism, Black women tend to feel obligated to put racial issues ahead of sex-based issues.

Continued from Page 4 gave you the guidance to make the right choice and my choice became real once I saw the news. It turns out as I was watching the news, they stated that a fugitive black man was on the run and had been charged with attempted murder. The authorities gave instructions that if you have seen him please notify the cops immediately. Once they showed the photo, my heart dropped into my stomach with a sense of joy and despair. James’s addiction became evident to the public as he was the man being charged of attempted murder. It was a site to see as I noticed the tyranny unfolding on the hit show “COPS”.

BAD BOYS, BAD BOYS, WHAT YOU

8

GONNA DO…WHAT YOU GONNA DO WHEN THEY COME FOR YOU He was on the run and now it was up to me to make that judgement call of staying silent or to speak out. There is an old saying that I heard growing up, “Pressure busts pipes”. I made the call to the authorities so that James could atone for

his sins and that I may live a peaceful life with him off the streets. All I could feel was a weight being lifted because I listened to the higher-self and I am no longer Under Pressure! To all those women out there involved in a similar situation, listen to your higher-self and the pressures of life will be lifted going forward. - Peace. Written By:
