GEHL AGRICULTURE NEW AGRICULTURAL EQUIPMENT WARRANTY GEHL AGRICULTURE DIVISION of the GEHL COMPANY, hereinafter referred to as Gehl, warrants new Gehl agricultural equipment, skid loaders, Gehlmax articulated loaders and attachments, to the Original Retail Purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of twelve (12) months from the Warranty Start Date, except as set forth below: The following parts are warranted for a period of ten (10) years from the Warranty Start Date for replacement only, labor and freight excluded, unless defect occurs during initial twelve (12) month warranty period: MANURE SPREADER sides on box spreaders or tank on Scavengerr spreaders against perforation (rust through) and Clad-Tuffr floor against delamination.

BU970 SELF-UNLOADING FORAGE BOX metal sides, end panels and roof against perforation (rust through) and platform against delamination.

GEHL AGRICULTURE WARRANTY SERVICE INCLUDES: Genuine Gehl parts and labor costs required to repair or replace equipment at the selling dealer’s business location.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Your decision to purchase this piece of Gehl equipment was a good one. We are sure that your decision was strongly considered and that you are looking forward to many years of work from this machine.

We, as a Company, have invested a great deal of time and effort in developing our lines of equipment. The equipment you have purchased is built with a great deal of pride and designed to give you long life, efficient operation, durability and dependability.

This manual was developed specifically for the machine you have purchased. The information within is for your assistance in preparing, adjusting, maintaining and servicing your machine. More importantly, this manual provides an operating plan for safe and proper use of your machine. Major points of safe operation are detailed in the SAFETY chapter of this manual. Refer to the Table of Contents for an outline (by chapters) of this manual. Use the Index, located at the back of this manual, for specific chapter and topic/page number references.

This GEHL equipment is provided with its own Operator’s Manual. If this machine is resold, Gehl Company recommends that this Manual be given to the new owner.

Modern machinery has become more sophisticated and, with that in mind, Gehl Company asks that you read and understand the contents of this manual COMPLETELY and become familiar with your new machine, BEFORE attempting to operate it.

CHAPTER 4

SAFETY The above Safety Alert Symbol means ATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! YOUR SAFETY IS INVOLVED! It stresses an attitude of ‘‘Heads Up for Safety’’ and can be found throughout this Operator’s Manual and on the machine itself.

BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO OPERATE THIS EQUIPMENT, READ AND STUDY THE FOLLOWING SAFETY INFORMATION. IN ADDITION, MAKE SURE THAT EVERY INDIVIDUAL WHO OPERATES OR WORKS WITH THIS EQUIPMENT, WHETHER FAMILY MEMBER OR EMPLOYEE, IS FAMILIAR WITH THESE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. Our Company ALWAYS takes the operator and his/her safety into consideration when designing its machinery and guards exposed moving parts for his/her protection.

However, some areas can NOT be guarded or shielded in order to assure proper operation. In addition, this Operator’s Manual and Decals, on the machine, warn of further danger and should be read and observed closely.

DANGER ‘‘DANGER’’ indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.

WARNING ‘‘WARNING’’ indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION ‘‘CAUTION’’ indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. May also alert against unsafe practices.

MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE BEFORE unclogging, cleaning, adjusting, lubricating or servicing the unit: 1.

For a Trailer unit, disengage the tractor PTO.

2a.

For a Trailer or Truck unit, shut off the tractor or truck engine, remove the starter key and take it with you.

2b. For a Stationary unit, shut off the electric motor(s) and LOCK-OUT THE ELECTRIC POWER SOURCE and take the key with you.

3.

Wait for all movement to stop.

4.

For a Trailer unit, remove the Telescoping Drive and ALL Power connections from the tractor.

ONLY when you have taken these precautions can you be sure it is safe to proceed. Failure to follow the above procedure, could lead to death or serious bodily injury.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY REMINDERS Some photographs, used in this manual, may show Doors, Guards or Shields open or removed for illustration purposes ONLY. BE SURE that all Doors, Guards or Shields are in their proper positions and securely attached BEFORE operating this unit.

On Trailer units, BE SURE the Hitchjack Locking Pin is completely engaged and that the machine is properly blocked and prevented from rolling BEFORE disconnecting the unit from the tractor.

ALWAYS wear Safety Glasses with Side Shields when striking metal against metal. In addition, it is recommended that a softer (non-chipable) material be used to cushion the blow. Failure to heed could result in serious injury to the eye(s) or other parts of the body.

SAFETY (Continued) NEVER use your hands to search for hydraulic fluid leaks, use a piece of paper or cardboard. Escaping fluid under pressure can be invisible and can penetrate the skin and cause a serious injury. If any fluid is injected into your skin, see a doctor at once. Injected fluid MUST be surgically removed by a doctor familiar with this type of injury or gangrene may result.

ALWAYS follow state and local regulations regarding use of a safety chain and transport lighting when towing farm equipment on public highways. Restrict highway towing speeds to 20 mph (32 kmh) maximum. BE SURE to check with local law enforcement agencies for your own particular regulations. Unless otherwise prohibited, use a Slow-moving Vehicle Emblem.

Only a safety chain (NOT an elastic or nylon/plastic tow strap) should be used to retain the connection between the towing and towed machines, in the event of separation of the primary attaching system.

Good safety practice dictates that you NEVER tow an implement (without brakes) unless the towing vehicle weighs at least one-and-one half (1-1/2) times the weight of the towed implement and its load. For any

public highway travel and to be in compliance with this rule, BE SURE that your tractor is heavy enough to counterbalance the weight of the Mixer Feeder.

To ensure continued safe operation, replace damaged or worn-out parts with genuine GEHL service parts, BEFORE attempting to operate this equipment.

Our Company does NOT sell replacement tires. In addition, tire mounting, service or inflation can be dangerous. Whenever possible, trained personnel should be called to service and/or mount tires, following the tire manufacturer’s instruction. If you do NOT have such instructions, contact your tire dealer or our Company. In any event, to avoid possible fatal or serious injury, follow the specific directive given in the Service chapter of this manual.

To avoid injury, stay out of the Mixer Feeder Box. If entrance into the Mixer Feeder Box is required, BE SURE to exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE BEFORE going in.

REMEMBER, it is the owner’s responsibility for communicating information on the safe use and proper maintenance of this machine.

CHAPTER 5 CONTROLS & SAFETY EQUIPMENT MF7000 Series Mixer Feeders are provided with numerous features for operator safety and convenience.

DISCHARGE CONVEYORS One-Piece Conveyor (Fig. 2)

CAUTION Become familiar with and know how to use ALL safety devices and controls on this machine BEFORE attempting to operate the unit.

Know how to stop machine operation BEFORE starting it.

Trailer or Truck-mounted GEHL Mixer Feeders are available with a One-piece Discharge Conveyor. When installed, the Conveyor can be attached in either a 30° or a 40° position. A Hydraulic Motor is used to directly drive the Conveyor Apron. Material is discharged whenever the Hydraulic Motor is operated with the tractor or truck remote-controlled hydraulics system.

The Discharge Conveyor Apron operates whenever the remote hydraulics control is activated.

The Mixer Feeder is provided with a Drain Plug in the bottom of both Auger Troughs at the front of the unit.

Two-Piece Conveyor (Fig. 3) Trailer or Truck-mounted GEHL Mixer Feeders are available with a Two-piece Discharge Conveyor. The Conveyor is designed to be pivoted from the ”transport” to the ”operating” position, and back to “transport”, by a remotely-controlled Hydraulic Cylinder. A Hydraulic

Motor is used to directly drive the Conveyor Apron.

When the Hydraulic Cylinder extends the Conveyor to the “operating” position, the Hydraulic Motor automatically starts to run the Conveyor Apron and discharge material. Hydraulic Motor operation is stopped whenever the hydraulic control lever is placed in neutral position or Hydraulic Cylinder is retracted to move the Discharge Conveyor to the “transport” position.

WARNING The Discharge Conveyor will automatically begin to operate after the Conveyor Control Cylinder reaches the end of its extension stroke, as long as the tractor remote hydraulics control lever is activated. Keep hands out. Do NOT step or climb over unit while machine is operating. The Rotating Conveyor can crush and dismember. Failure to heed could result in death or serious injury.

DISCHARGE DOOR CONTROL & INDICATOR (See Fig. 3) Trailer-Mounted and Truck-Mounted Mixer Feeders are furnished with a Hydraulic Cylinder and StationaryMounted Mixer Feeders are furnished with a 110 V A.C. voltage powered Linear Actuator to remotely regulate the position of the Discharge Door. A Position Indicator is provided for visual monitoring of the amount of Door opening.

Accessory Discharge Conveyor Magnet (Fig. 4) As a safeguard for livestock, a Magnet can be installed into the end of either the One-Piece or the Two-Piece Discharge Conveyor. The Magnet will extract harmful metal debris before it drops into the feeder bunk.

All Mixer Feeder models are furnished with Electronic Weigh Scales as standard equipment, to facilitate accurate weight measurement for feed rationing. The 7210, 7285 and 7335 Trailer-Mounted models use a 3-point Weighbar system and the 7435 and 7500 Trailer models use a 4-point Weighbar system. All Mixer Feeder models use a 4-point Weighbar system for Truck-Mounted or Stationary applications. The MF7210 is available as a Stationary unit but NOT for Truck Mounting. For additional details, refer to information packaged with the Weigh Scale system.

GUARDS & SHIELDS (Figs. 6 & 7 & see Fig. 1) Whenever possible and without affecting machine operation, Guards and Shields have been used on this equipment to protect potentially hazardous areas. In specific places, Decals are also provided to warn of potential dangers as well as to display special operating procedures. The drive components of the Mixer Feeder are protected by a large Rear Shield which is attached by two alignment Studs at the bottom and Bolts in the upper corners. On Trailer units, the Drive Input connection is covered by two separate bolted-on Shields and the Telescoping PTO Drive connection to the tractor is equipped with rotating Shields. Stationary units are provided with Drive Belt and Discharge opening Guards. In addition, the top of the Stationary Mixer Feeder Tank is furnished with a repositionable Steel Bar Grate.

HITCHJACK (See Fig. 1)

WARNING BE SURE the Locking Pin is properly seated into the holes thru the Jack Tube and the Hub on the Mixer Feeder Drawbar BEFORE the tractor is disconnected.

A Hitchjack is furnished with a Trailer-type Mixer Feeder to support the machine when the tractor is disconnected as well as to facilitate aligning the Hitch Clevis with the tractor drawbar for hookup.

When the Jack is NOT being used to support the Mixer Feeder, it can be relocated to the ”storage” Hub provided on the front of the unit.

HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS GEHL Mixer Feeders are available with appropriate hydraulic systems to match the requirements of the Discharge Conveyor installed, the type of mountings (Truck or Trailer) and (for Trailer Units only), the available remote hydraulic control circuit(s) of the tractor.

Standard Hydraulics Package The Standard Hydraulics packages are designed to be used to operate Trailer-type Mixer Feeders with tractors having two separate remote hydraulics circuits. All of the packages, which essentially differ by their Hose and Tubing lengths to fit the different size units,provide Hoses, Tubes and Fittings to interconnect the Door

Control Cylinder to one pair of remote tractor outlets.

The Conveyor Apron Drive Motor (for a One-Piece Discharge Conveyor) or the Conveyor Apron Drive Motor and the parallel-connected Conveyor Control Cylinder (for a Two-Piece Discharge Conveyor) are likewise interconnected to a second pair of remote tractor outlets.

Single Valve Conversion Package The Standard Hydraulics packages, described under the previous subtopic, are designed for operation by a tractor with two separate remote hydraulic circuits. The Single Valve Conversion package is designed to adapt the Mixer Feeder Control Cylinder(s) and the Conveyor Drive Motor for operation by a tractor with only one remote hydraulic circuit.

Self-contained Hydraulics Systems The Self-contained Hydraulics Systems are designed for Truck-mounted (and optional Trailer-type) applications. The systems consist of a Hydraulic Pump, Reservoir, Filter, Directional Flow Control Valves and appropriate Hoses, Tubes and Fittings to adapt to the various model Mixer Feeders (except the 7210 model).

1000 RPM (FIELD) CONVERSION KIT All Trailer-type Mixer Feeders (except the 7210 model) can be field-converted for operation by a 1000 PTO RPM tractor. Conversion involves exchange of the Telescoping PTO Drive and Sprocket changes, inside the Chain Case.

SAFETY CHAINS & TRANSPORT LIGHTING (Fig. 8) As required or when desired, the Trailer-type Mixer Feeder should be equipped with the appropriate-sized Safety Chain and Transport Lighting for transporting the unit on a public highway. The Chain should be routed as shown in the illustration. Refer to the Optional Features & Accessories chapter of this manual for additional ordering information

CAUTION ALWAYS follow state and local regulations regarding a safety chain and auxiliary lighting when towing farm equipment on a public highway. BE SURE to check with local law enforcement agencies for your own particular regulations. Only a safety chain (NOT an elastic or nylon/plastic tow strap) should be used to retain the connection between the towing and towed machines, in the event of separation of the primary attaching system.

TELESCOPING PTO DRIVE (See Fig. 1)

WARNING On Trailer-type Feeders, BE SURE that the Telescoping Drive Rotates freely inside the Drive Shields Tubes at all times.

The Telescoping PTO Drive is designed to rotate freely inside the Drive Shield Tubes. The Telescoping PTO Drive is provided with a Spring-loaded Locking Device

on one end to positively lock the Drive connection onto the tractor PTO shaft. Depress the Locking Device, against the Spring tension, and slide the Yoke onto the tractor PTO Shaft. Release the Locking Device and move the Yoke ahead or back until the Lock engages into the groove of the tractor PTO Shaft.

DANGER Death can result from entanglement. Keep people and clothing well clear. Do NOT operate a Trailer-type Mixer Feeder without: Drive Line Guards, Input Shaft Guards, Tractor Master Shield, and U-Joint locked to tractor and implement shafts.

STATIONARY MIXER FEEDERS (Fig. 9) All GEHL Mixer Feeders are available for Stationary applications. Normally, these units are installed inside a building with electrically-powered conveyor systems to bring material into and carry mixed material away from the unit. Stationary units are equipped with an electric motor-powered Drive and electric Linear Actuator-controlled Discharge Door.

NOTE:

For special design, application, installation and operation details, refer to the separate GEHL Stationary Mixer Feeder Supplement, Form No. 907061; ordered separately.

WARNING Stationary Mixer Feeder unit installations MUST comply with all rules and guidelines set forth in ASAE Standard S354.2. Of major importance, BE SURE to install and wire all electrically powered devices in accordance with ALL applicable national, state and local codes regarding shielding, overload protection and positive electric power source lockouts.

TRUCK-MOUNTED MIXER FEEDERS (Fig. 10) All GEHL Mixer Feeders (with the exception of the 7210 model) are available for Truck-mounted applications. Normally, these units are adapted to an appropriately-sized truck frame on a 4-point Weigh Scale mounting arrangement. The Mixer Feeder Drive Line is powered from a (manufacturer provided) truck Power Take-off (PTO).

NOTE:

CHAPTER 6 OPERATION GENERAL INFORMATION GEHL MF7000 Series Mixer Feeders are designed to completely mix, blend and feed livestock rations.

Trailer-type and Truck-mounted models are also designed for transporting livestock rations and discharging them directly into a bunk-feeder.

CAUTION BE SURE to use a locking hitchpin to make the Mixer Feeder connection to the tractor drawbar.

WARNING BEFORE operating the Mixer Feeder, review and comply with ALL applicable recommendations set forth in the SAFETY chapter of this manual.

NOTE: The following information applies specifically to Trailer-type units, unless otherwise noted. Most of this information also applies to Truck-mounted units and some information will also be applicable to Stationary units.

Emergency Shut-down In an emergency or in case a foreign object becomes lodged in the Discharge Conveyor, Door or Conveyor Augers, STOP Mixer Feeder operation IMMEDIATELY by disengaging the tractor or truck PTO or by shutting-off the electric motor on Stationary units. BE SURE to exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8) BEFORE proceeding to correct the problem.

PTO Connection

Proper operation requires a tractor with sufficient horsepower to run the PTO and size to counterbalance the weight of a loaded Mixer Feeder. Refer to the Specifications chapter for loaded weights and horsepower requirements.

NOTE: This GEHL Mixer Feeder is designed for standard 540 RPM PTO operation or field-converted 1000 RPM PTO operation; Do NOT attempt to operate unit at higher than the respective rated speeds.

NOTE:

It is very important that a measurement of 14” for 540 RPM units (or 16” for 1000 RPM field-converted units) is established and maintained from the end of the tractor PTO shaft to center of the tractor drawbar pin hole.

By design, this Mixer Feeder can only be properly hooked-up to a tractor which has PTO and hitch dimensions conforming to ASAE Standard S203.

WARNING BE SURE that the Telescoping PTO Coupler is properly secured to the tractor PTO shaft.

Likewise, BE SURE that the Rotating Shields turn freely BEFORE starting the tractor engine.

Telescoping PTO Drive (All Models) NOTE: Do NOT attempt to use a hammer to aid in attaching the Drive Coupler to the tractor PTO shaft.

With the correct distance established, slide back the Coupler Lock and attach the PTO Drive to the tractor PTO shaft. Make sure that the Coupler locks onto the PTO shaft; slide it back and forth until it locks. The Telescoping PTO Drive Shaft is designed to only be operated with the Mixer Feeder and tractor in a straight line (or less than 15° from a straight line). Disengage the PTO before maneuvering greater angles.

NOTE: To prevent damage to the Telescoping Drive, NEVER allow the tractor’s rear tires to make contact with the Telescoping Drive while making sharp turns. Be especially careful when pulling the Mixer Feeder with a tractor equipped with a 3-point hitch.

HYDRAULICS SYSTEM CONTROLS The hydraulic controls for operating the Mixer Feeder are different as described under the following subtopics.

Standard Hydraulics Package (Fig. 12) The Standard Hydraulics package is designed to be used to operate a Trailer-type Mixer Feeder by a tractor having two separate remote hydraulics circuits, as shown in the Schematic Diagram provided. Operate the one tractor remote hydraulics control lever to run the Conveyor Apron Drive Motor (for a One-Piece Discharge Conveyor) or the Conveyor Apron Drive Motor and the parallel-connected Conveyor Control Cylinder (for a Two-Piece Discharge Conveyor). Operate the second tractor remote hydraulics control lever to extend or retract the Door Control Cylinder.

Single Valve Conversion Package (Fig. 13) The Standard Hydraulics package, described under the previous subtopic, is designed to operate the Trailertype Mixer with a tractor with two separate remote hydraulic circuits. The Single Valve Conversion package, when properly field-installed, converts the standard hydraulics system so that the Trailer-type Mixer Feeder can be operated by a tractor with only one remote hydraulic circuit, as shown in the Schematic Diagram provided. Two valves; one 3-Position, Spring-Centered, Directional Control Valve and a second 3-Position, with detent, Direction Control Valve, are furnished with the Conversion package. This enables operation of the each hydraulic Cylinder and/or Motor circuit separately.

Self-contained Hydraulics Systems The Self-contained Hydraulics System is designed for Truck-Mounted (and optional Trailer-type) applications. The systems consist of a Hydraulic Pump, Reservoir, Filter, Directional Flow Control Valves and appropriate Hoses, Tubes and Fittings. One Valve controls the flow to extend or retract the Door Control Cylinder. The other Valve controls the flow to run the Conveyor Apron Drive Motor (for a One-Piece Discharge Conveyor) or the Conveyor Apron Drive Motor

and the parallel-connected Conveyor Control Cylinder (for a Two-Piece Discharge Conveyor).

NOTE:

For specific details, refer to the separate GEHL Truck-Mounted Mixer Feeder Instruction Manual, Form No. 907062; ordered separately.

LOADING MIXER FEEDER

WARNING Do NOT load the Mixer Feeder without having the Trailer–type unit hooked-up to the tractor.

The Hitchjack will NOT support the Mixer Feeder during loading.

GEHL Mixer Feeders are designed and built to mix a wide variety of materials. Some materials, when mixed, demand high torque requirements. Always load lighter, more free-flowing materials first as these are less likely to compact. If the Mixer Feeder is loaded fast (within 5 minutes), run the unit while it is being loaded. If the Mixer Feeder is loaded slowly, run the unit intermittently to level the load, evenly blend and distribute the materials in the Box and reduce stress on the Drive Line components. Depending on the type of material and the speed of mixing, it may take from 3 to 5 minutes to 23

completely blend and mix the materials; avoid overmixing. Running the Mixer Feeder longer than 5 minutes will only increase wear but NOT greatly improve the resultant blend of materials, except with baled hay.

Brewer’s grain tends to become gummy, especially when mixed with drier commodities and thus causes the feed to wad-up. When this happens, extra stress is put on the Augers, the Mixer Feeder side walls, Bearings, Sprockets, chains and other drive components. Therefore, when mixing brewer’s grain, cut-back on the load volume.

When mixing brewer’s grain, load the brewer’s grain into the Mixer Feeder only after the other feed ingredients have been loaded. Do NOT mix brewer’s grain for any longer than 1-1/2 minutes maximum.

Many potential problems can be avoided if the following guidelines (as applicable) are established and met:

NOTE:

To prevent damage to the Drive Line, Mixing Augers, Discharge Conveyor and Door, foreign objects, such as stones, heavy timber or metal, should NEVER be placed into the Mixer Feeder.

In addition, to avoid potential damage to the Drive Line components, NEVER allow the loaded Mixer Feeder to stand overnight. Material will settle and thus pack against the Augers causing unnecessary stress on the Drive Line, upon start-up.

BE SURE there is NO water standing in the Auger Troughs; remove water through the Drain Plug holes provided.

2.

Engage the PTO and test operation before starting to load the Mixer Feeder. Always load in the center of the Mixer Feeder.

3.

In winter or freezing temperatures, make sure the Discharge Conveyor and Augers are free (NOT frozen) before loading the Mixer Feeder and applying PTO power. Test-run unit before loading it.

Bulk Feeds Bulk feed materials, used as a filler, have a tendency to wedge and compact. When using bulk materials, the maximum load capacities of the following materials require special attention:

Green Chop Green chop should be cut so the material does NOT exceed 1” (25 mm) in length. Care should also be used when mixing this material to prevent it from ”ballingup”. This is most likely to occur when a ration, containing green chop, is overmixed.

Chopped Hay

Feed Supplements

Chopped hay should be cut so the material does NOT exceed 1” (25 mm) in length. Use care when mixing this material and do NOT exceed load capacity. If the feed material bridges against either end wall and does NOT move to the bottom Augers, cut-back on the load volume.

NOTE:

Square-Baled Hay

FEED SUPPLEMENTS & MATERIALS

ALWAYS mix feed at full rated PTO

speed.

If feed supplements, minerals and/or other additives are to be used, first fill the Mixer Feeder with the main ingredients. Then, sprinkle the feed supplements, minerals and/or other additives over the center of the load.

Do NOT lump these in one place as it will take longer to mix with the rest of the feed materials.

Brewer’s Grain The following considerations are important to help to minimize additional wear and reduce maintenance when mixing brewer’s grain: 1.

Brewer’s grain is a heavy feed item with from 65 to 90% moisture and a high acid level. The acid level of brewer’s grain tends to corrode the Mixer Feeder more than other materials.

NOTE: ALWAYS add square bales of hay at the end of the load after all other ingredients have been loaded into the Mixer.

Small square bales of Hay can be added into the top of the Mixer Feeder. Too much hay may result in poor mixing and plugging.

WEIGH SCALE OPERATION Refer to the information provided in the separate manual included with the Electronic Scale system.

UNLOADING After the Mixer Feeder is loaded, maneuver it into position along side the bunk feeder and activate the tractor remote hydraulics control lever to start the Discharge Conveyor Motor.

NOTE:

If the Discharge Conveyor Motor and/or Door Control Cylinder do NOT operate or otherwise operate improperly, reverse the Hose connections at the back of the tractor.

WARNING The Two-Piece Discharge Conveyor will automatically begin to operate after the Conveyor Control Cylinder reaches the end of its extension stroke, as long as the tractor remote hydraulics control lever is activated. Keep hands out! Do NOT step or climb over unit while machine is operating! The Rotating Conveyor can crush and dismember. Failure to heed could result in death or serious injury!

NOTE:

In freezing temperatures, BE SURE the Mixer Feeder is completely empty before stopping operation.

OVERLOAD PROTECTION Shear Bolts are used on all Mixer Feeder models to provide Drive Line overload protection.

NOTE:

BE SURE to exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8) and stop all Mixer Feeder operation IMMEDIATELY when Shear Bolt failure is detected.

MF7210 Shear Bolts (Fig. 14) One Grade 5, 1/4x1 Shear Bolt and Locknut is provided in the tractor connection end of the Telescoping PTO Drive on the MF7210 model Mixer Feeder.

With the tractor at low idle RPM, engage the PTO to run the Mixing Augers. Then, bring the RPM up the desired operating speed and open the Discharge Door to begin depositing material into the bunk feeder.

Drive down the length of the bunk feeder while observing that material is smoothly feeding into the bunk.

The One-Piece Discharge Conveyor Motor operates whenever the tractor remote control lever is activated.

NOTE: To avoid plugging, overloading and damaging the Drive Line components, only open the Discharge Door after the PTO is engaged and after the Augers are running at the rated speed.

The rate of discharge is affected by the distance the Door is opened, which can be visually monitored by the position of the Indicator, the RPM (oil flow rate) of the Discharge Conveyor Apron Drive Motor and the type of material being discharged.

After the Mixer Feeder is emptied, close the Discharge Door before stopping the Discharge Conveyor Motor.

Replacement 1/4 x 1, Grade 5 Bolts and Locknuts can be obtained in packaged quantities of eight Bolts and Locknuts by GEHL part number 902447.

MF7285 or MF7335 Shear Bolt (Fig. 15) One Grade 8, 1/4 x 2 Shear Bolt and Locknut is provided in the Shaft Shear Flange Coupling to the Chain Case assembly on the MF7285 and MF7335 model Mixer Feeders.

Replacement 1/4 x 2, Grade 8 Shear Bolts and Locknuts can be obtained in packaged quantities of eight Bolts and Locknuts by GEHL part number 904413.

When a 1000 RPM Conversion Kit is installed on an MF7285, 7335, 7435 or 7500 trailertype Mixer Feeder, the PTO Shear Bolt changes to a 1/4 x 2 Grade 5 Bolt. MF7435 or MF7500 Shear Bolt (Fig. 6-5) One Grade 8, 1/4 x 2 Shear Bolt and Locknut is provided in the Implement connection end of the Constant Velocity Telescoping PTO Drive on the MF7435 and MF7500 model Mixer Feeders.

Replacement 1/4 x 2, Grade 8 Bolts and Locknuts can be obtained in packaged quantities of eight Bolts and Locknuts by GEHL part number 904413.

CAUTION Hydraulically-driven units, when plugged, appear to be OFF since the oil is bypassing over the relief valve. When the plug is removed, the unit will suddenly spring back to life and can cause serious injury. BEFORE attempting to unplug machine, exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8).

If the Mixer Feeder becomes plugged, material will probably begin to bridge in the area of the Discharge Conveyor Door. Exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8), remove the bridging material and as applicable, replace any Shear Bolts which may have sheared, BEFORE attempting to resume operation.

When any part of the Mixer Feeder becomes plugged, stop the unit IMMEDIATELY. On Trailer-type or Truck-mounted units, NEVER leave the tractor or truck seat to unplug the Mixer Feeder NOR attempt to climb into the Mixer Feeder without first exercising the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8). On Stationary units, shut off ALL electric power to the unit and positively lock it out, BEFORE attempting to unplug the unit.

CHAPTER 7 ADJUSTMENTS NOTE:

In freezing temperatures, BE SURE to keep the Conveyor Floor and Apron Chain Slats clean. Operate the machine empty (before loading) to make sure nothing is frozen tight.

Discharge Conveyor Apron Chain tension should be checked after every 50 hours of operation. Apron Chain tension is important because too much slack will cause the Chain to ride off the Sprockets and, too much tension will cause premature wear and early failure of the Chain and/or Sprockets. Adjust the Take-up Bolts, on the front and rear sides of the Conveyor assembly, evenly until a Chain Slat can be raised approximately 1” (25 mm) away from the Conveyor Floor at about the middle of the Conveyor. After the desired Apron tension is obtained, retighten all attaching and adjustment hardware.

Spring-loaded Idler Sprockets are provided to maintain proper operating tension at all times. Tension should be checked after every 50 hours of operation but it should remain properly adjusted throughout the life of the Chain and require NO further readjustment. Make sure that the Idler Pivots do NOT bind and are kept properly lubricated.

CAUTION BE SURE to exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8), BEFORE getting into the Mixer Feeder to place the 3/8 Plain Washers under the Lower Auger Flighting.

The positions of the Lower Augers can be vertically adjusted by repositioning the Bearings in the front of the unit. In the rear of the unit, the positions of the Auger can be adjusted with the top and bottom Adjustment Nuts and Take-up Bolts on each side of the Chaincase.

When properly adjusted, the Augers should be approximately 1/16” (1.6 mm) away from the Troughs, along their entire lengths.

The correct measurement of this distance can be obtained by placing 3/8 Plain Washers under the Auger Flighting in the middle and on each end of both Lower Augers and tightening the Bearings and Adjusting Nuts with the Augers resting on the 3/8 Plain Washers.

PLANETARY GEARCASE DRIVE CHAINS (Fig. 22) The two Planetary Gearcase Drive Chains are provided with Chain Idlers for maintaining proper operating tension. Chain tension should be checked and readjusted, if necessary, after every 50 hours of operation. To readjust Chain tension, slightly loosen the appropriate Idler Sprocket Mounting bolt, so that the Idler can just be moved by tapping on the Idler Sprocket with a rubber mallet or lead hammer. Proper tension is achieved when the Chain can be deflected 1/2” (13 mm) on the strand of Chain between the Idler and Drive Sprocket. After the desired tension is adjusted, retighten the Idler mounting bolt.

CHAPTER 8 LUBRICATION

WARNING NEVER attempt to lubricate the machine when any part of the unit is in motion. ALWAYS BE SURE to exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8) BEFORE proceeding to lubricate this machine.

It is well to remember that a sufficient amount of oil or grease will prevent excessive part wear and early failure.

CHAIN CASE Maintain the proper Chain Case oil level with SAE 10W40 oil, or equivalent, at all times. All Chaincases should be maintained with an oil level at about the center of the lower Drive Shaft. The oil level can be checked or oil can be added by unlatching and opening the Chain Case Cover. The oil should be removed and new oil installed, after every 500 hours of operation, or annually. BE SURE to replace and tightly secure the Drain Plug before installing new oil.

GREASING Wipe dirt from the Fittings before greasing to prevent any dirt from being forced into the Bearings or pivots.

Replace any missing Fittings, when noted. To minimize dirt build-up, avoid excessive greasing.

NOTE:

In addition to the Fittings, inspect and repack the Trailer-Mounted unit Wheel Bearings yearly.

OILING Lubricate all Drive Chains every 50 hours of operation using a good grade of foaming aerosol lubricant. The recommended method is to spray the entire length of Chain on the center of the Rollers. It is better to lubricate Chains when they are warm (after use, rather than before).

In addition to the Roller Chains, apply oil or foaming aerosol lubricant to the Telescoping PTO Drive Guard.

PLANETARY GEARCASE The two Planetary Gearcases are filled from the factory with 80W90 oil. The oil level should be checked after every 50 hours of operation (or monthly) and maintained to a level just below the Fill Plug opening on each Gearcase.

CHAPTER 9 SERVICE GENERAL INFORMATION

CAUTION BEFORE proceeding to perform all Service routines on this unit, exercise the MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8).

NOTE: The following information is also referred to in the Troubleshooting chapter of this manual. It should be understood that all services, detailed in this chapter, are Owner-Operator responsibilities. Where indicated, certain service routines should only be carried-out by (or under the direction of) an authorized GEHL equipment dealer.

RELUBEABLE BALL BEARING REPLACEMENT (Fig. 24) Relubeable Ball Bearings are used on various Shafts, around the unit. This type of Bearing is generally retained, in place, with a Self-locking Eccentric Collar.

The Lock Collar has a counterbored recess, which is eccentric with the Collar bore. This eccentric recess engages or mates with an eccentric end of the Bearing inner ring, when the Bearing is assembled on the Shaft.

The Bearing is engaged, on the inner ring cam, by the Collar. This assembly grips the Shaft tightly with a positive binding action that increases with use. The Collar Set Screw provides supplementary locking.

CLEANOUT DOOR (Fig. 23)

A Cleanout Door is provided on units with a Discharge Conveyor to enable removal of debris in the area of the lower Apron Sprockets. This area should be inspected on a routine basis after every 50 hours of operation.

The Bearing can be removed from the Shaft by loosening the Set Screw and tapping on a punch which is placed in the drift pin hole, to loosen the Collar. Install Bearings with self-locking Collars in the following manner: Fig. 23:Cleanout Door on Two-piece Discharge Conveyor

Place the Bearing and Collar on the Shaft with the cam surfaces next to each other. Tighten the bolts on the Bearing Retainers.

2.

Mate the cam of the Lock Collar with the cam of the Bearing inner ring.

3.

Press the Locking Collar against the Bearing wide inner ring and turn it, in the direction of Shaft rotation, until it tightly engages. Tighten the Collar further, by tapping on a punch inserted in the drift pin hole.

NOTE:

Avoid damaging the Collar by overtigh-

tening it.

TIRES & WHEELS Check the Mixer Feeder Tire pressure after every 50 hours of operation. Tires should be inflated to the appropriate pressure listed in the Table. Wheel Lug torque should be checked after every 50 hours of operation and tightened with 90 ft-lb (120 Nm) torque for 8-Bolt Wheels or 220 ft-lb (300 Nm) torque for the 10-Bolt Wheels.

WARNING The GEHL Company does NOT sell replacement Tires. In addition, Tire mounting, repair and replacements should ONLY be attempted by a qualified tire manufacturer’s representative or by properly trained personnel following the tire manufacturer’s instruction. If you do NOT have such instructions, contact your tire dealer or the GEHL Company. In addition, inflating or servicing tires can be dangerous. Whenever possible, trained personnel should be called to service and/or mount tires. In addition, do NOT place fingers on tire bead during inflation; serious injury or amputation could result! In any event, to avoid possible fatal or serious injury, follow the safety precautions below: • BE SURE the Rim is clean and free of rust.

Lubricate both the tire beads and rim flanges with a soap solution. Do NOT use oil or grease. Do NOT weld, braze, or otherwise attempt to repair and use a damaged rim.

• Use a clip-on tire chuck with a remote hose and gauge which allows you to stand clear of the tire while inflating it.

• NEVER inflate beyond 35 PSI (240 kPa) to seat the beads. If beads have NOT seated by the time the pressure reaches 35 PSI, deflate the assembly, reposition the tire on the rim, relubricate both parts and re-inflate it. Inflation pressure beyond 35 PSI with unseated beads may break the bead or rim with explosive force sufficient to cause fatal or serious injury.

• After seating the beads, adjust the inflation pressure to the recommended operating pressure listed.

CHAPTER 10 PREPARING FOR FIELD OPERATION All Mixer Feeder models are “direct drive” machines which operate IMMEDIATELY after the PTO is engaged. Drive disengagement is strictly by shuttingoff the tractor PTO. For this reason, it is most important that “shock-loading” be avoided by making sure that the PTO is engaged at low tractor RPM. Shear Bolt overload protection is provided in either the PTO Drive

(MF7210, MF7435 and MF7500 models) or the Chain Case Coupling (MF7285 and MF7335 models). To facilitate proper operation and help prevent Shear Bolt failure, establish and maintain the proper Driveline alignment and tractor hookup. Refer to the Operation chapter and the Transporting chapter for additional field operation guidelines and recommendations.

CHAPTER 11 TRANSPORTING SAFETY CHAIN (Fig. 25) NOTE:

Refer to the Optional Features & Accessories chapter for the Safety Chain and Transport Lighting Kit ordering information.

CAUTION ALWAYS follow state and local regulation regarding use of a safety chain and transport lighting when towing farm equipment on public highways. ONLY a safety chain (NOT an elastic or nylon/plastic tow strap) should be used to retain the connection between the towing and towed machines, in the event of separation of the primary attaching system.

BE SURE to check with local law enforcement agencies for your own particular regulations.

Unless otherwise prohibited, use a Slowmoving Vehicle Emblem.

Accessories chapter for ordering information. The Safety Chain should be attached to the tractor and Mixer Feeder as shown. When attached in this manner, the safety chain should have the following characteristics: 1.

Chain is sufficiently slack to allow turns and movements of either the tractor or the farm implement, without placing tension on chain.

2.

Chain is of sufficient strength to hold the decoupled implement (and its load) and tow it to the shoulder.

SMV EMBLEM & REFLECTORS (Figs. 26 & 27) The GEHL MF7000 Series Trailer-type Mixer Feeders are provided with a Slow-moving Vehicle Emblem on the back of the Box. Red Reflector Strips are also provided on the back corners of both Fenders and the rear corner of the Discharge Conveyor. An Amber Reflector Strip is provided on the front corner of the Discharge Conveyor.

WARNING 1

Good safety practice dictates that you NEVER tow an implement (without brakes) unless the towing vehicle weighs at least one-and-one half (1-1/2) times the weight of the towed implement and its load. For any public highway travel and to be in compliance with this rule, BE SURE that your tractor is heavy enough to counterbalance the weight of the Mixer Feeder.

TRANSPORT LIGHTING NOTE:

TOWING ON HIGHWAY To view beyond the back of the larger trailer-mounted Mixer Feeders when transporting the unit on a public highway, consider obtaining and installing a rear view mirror on your tractor with a wide load mounting bracket.

If the Mixer Feeder is going to be transported on a public highway, a Transport Lighting Kit should be obtained and installed per details provided with the Kit. An accessory Highway Transport Lighting Kit is available for all Mixer Feeder trailer-type models. The Kit includes Lights, Wiring Harness and installation instructions.

CHAPTER 12 STORAGE Because a Mixer Feeder is year–round implement, it should be in ready–to–operate condition at all times.

Several provisions have been designed into the Mixer Feeder to enable it to be used in cold, moderate and warm outside temperatures. The most important factor for continuous proper operation is lubrication. Routine lubrication should be repeated more frequently in both temperature extremes. If the trailer-type unit is stored

outside, BE SURE to remove the Drain Plugs and adjust the Hitchjack to angle the unit to be lower in front, when the unit is NOT being used.

NOTE:

When operating the Mixer Feeder in freezing temperatures, the unit should be stored inside, if possible.

CHAPTER 13 TROUBLESHOOTING NOTE: This Troubleshooting guide presents problems, causes and suggested remedies beyond the extent of loose, worn or missing parts and it was developed with the understanding that the machine is in otherwise good operating condition. CHAPTER 14 SET-UP & ASSEMBLY GENERAL INFORMATION MF7000 Series Trailer-type Mixer Feeders are shipped in varying stages of disassembly, as well as with the optional One-Piece or Two-piece Discharge Conveyor NOT installed. This Set-up & Assembly chapter is divided into two sections; Standard Components and Accessory Components. The following procedures should be performed inside an enclosed workshop which is equipped with the proper tools and an overhead hoist. Although the procedures imply a single set-up person, two people can and will be able to assemble the components to the machine more quickly and easily.

Unless otherwise noted, the standard fastening procedure is to secure two parts with a CS, L and N. A part with a mounting slot should be secured with a P against the slotted surfaces. LN’s are sometimes used to prevent two parts from separating but still to allow one part to move or rotate next to the other. Attaching hardware, which will require installation in the path of material flow should always be installed with the head of the screw on the same side of part which will be in contact with the material.

Telescoping PTO Drive Connect the Telescoping PTO Drive to the Mixer Feeder Drive Shaft making sure that the Shaft is clean and lightly greased before installing the Drive Yoke. Slide the Yoke all the way onto the Shaft and secure it with the Key and Set Screw and the CS and LN.

One-piece Discharge Conveyor (Fig. 28) NOTE: If Mixer Feeder is going to be set-up with an accessory Single Valve Conversion package, those components should be installed first.

The One-piece Discharge Conveyor is shipped in three component subassemblies; the One-piece Conveyor subassembly, the hydraulic Hoses and the completing parts package. Assemble the components of the Onepiece Conveyor to the Mixer Feeder, in the following manner: 1. Using an overhead hoist or other appropriate safe means of raising and supporting the Conveyor assembly, proceed to position and install the Conveyor assembly to the Discharge Door opening.

When properly positioned, the top flange of the Conveyor assembly should be below the flange at the bottom of the Discharge Door opening and the Side Panels of the Conveyor should be to the inside of the Mounting Plate on each side of the Discharge Door. Attach the Conveyor Side Panels to the Mounting Plates with (3 each side) 3/8 x 1 CS, N and L. A pair of upper mounting holes are provided in each Mounting Plate to enable attaching the Conveyor assembly in either a 30° or a 40° position. BE SURE that the Conveyor is attached in the same upper mounting hole on both sides. If the 30° position is used, the middle holes will need to be reamed-out to pass a Cap Screw through them. Tightly secure the attaching hardware after all six Cap Screws are installed.

2. Install 90° Elbow Fittings into each of the Motor ports. Install the Check Valve into the Elbow Fitting in the right Motor port (as viewed from the Shaft end). Position both Elbow Fittings so they point away from the shaft of the Motor.

Properly position and install the Orbital Motor to the bottom Shaft of the Conveyor with the Shaft Coupler, a 1/4 x 1 Woodruff Key and (2) 5/16 x 5/16 SHSS. When properly positioned, the hydraulic Fittings on the Motor should be next to the Mixer Feeder Frame. Secure the Motor to the Motor Mount Bracket with (4 each) 3/8 x 1 CS & L. Then, tightly secure the (2) SHSS to secure the Motor to the Conveyor Shaft.

Route the Hydraulic Hoses as follows:

For setting-up a unit for a standard hydraulics hookup, pass one end of each of the hydraulic Hoses through the Access Hole in the top of the Front Bearing Stand, over the Drawbar and through Hose Holder at the front lower left corner of Mixer Feeder Tank.

b.

For setting-up a unit for operation in conjunction with a Single Valve Conversion package, route each of the Hoses coming from the 3-Position Valve with Detent (on left side) over the Drawbar and through the Hose Holder at the front lower left corner of the Mixer Feeder Tank.

Connect one Hose to Elbow Fitting on the upper Motor port and connect the other Hose to the Check Valve on the lower Motor port. Install quick-disconnect couplers (purchased locally) to the tractor connection ends of the Hoses. Properly tighten all Hose and Fitting connections before test-running the unit.

Using an overhead hoist or other appropriate safe means of raising and supporting the Conveyor subassembly, proceed to position and install the Lower Half Conveyor subassembly to the Discharge Door opening. When properly positioned, the top flange on the Lower Half Conveyor subassembly should be below the flange at the bottom of the Discharge Door opening. Attach the bottom two holes of the Lower Half Conveyor to the aligning slots in the Conveyor Mount with (2 each side) 3/8 x 1 CS, N, L and a P against all slotted hole surfaces. BE SURE to install the Bolts from the bottom up so that the heads of the Bolts will end up against the bottom. Do NOT tightly secure the attaching hardware at this time.

Properly position and loosely attach a Chain Guide on the underside of the Lower Half Conveyor flange at the top two hole positions on each side with (2 each side) 3/8 x 1-1/4 CS, N, L and a P against all slotted hole surfaces. BE SURE to install the Bolts from the bottom up so that the heads of the Bolts will end up against the bottom.

Position the lower half approximately in the center of the slots and tightly secure all of the attaching hardware at this time.

5.

Properly position and attach the rod end of the Conveyor Lift Cylinder to the Cylinder Lift Bracket with the Cylinder Hinge Pin and (2) 3/16 x 1-3/4 Cotter Pins.

6.

Using an overhead hoist or other appropriate safe means of raising and supporting the Upper Half Conveyor subassembly, proceed to position and install the Upper Half Conveyor subassembly onto the Pivot Tube of the Lower Half Conveyor subassembly. Secure the two subassemblies together with a 1/2 x 3-1/4 CS and LN and Spacer on each side. Tighten the LN enough to prevent the CS from falling-out but to allow the Upper Half to pivot freely.

NOTE: If Mixer Feeder is going to be set-up with a Single Valve Conversion package, those components should be installed first.

The Two-piece Discharge Conveyor is shipped in five component subassemblies: the Lower Half Conveyor subassembly, the Upper Half Conveyor subassembly, the Apron Chain, the hydraulic Hoses and the completing parts package. Assemble the components of the Two-piece Conveyor to the Mixer Feeder, in the following manner:

From inside the Mixer Feeder, install the Conveyor Cylinder Backing Plate with (4) 3/8 x 1-1/4 CS through the holes provided. Then, properly position and install the Cylinder Lift Bracket over the (4) CS and attach the Bracket with (4 each) 3/8 P, L and N. Tightly secure the attaching hardware.

On the insides of the right and left Conveyor Mounts on each side of the Discharge Door opening, properly position and attach the respective Right and Left Mounting Plates with (2 each) 3/8 x 1 CS, L and N. Tightly secure attaching hardware.

Raise the top end of the Upper Half Conveyor to align the end of the Anchor Stud with Clevis on the end of the Cylinder. Place one end of the Clevis onto the Stud, install the Bushing and slide the Clevis all the way onto the Stud. Install a 5/16 x 1 CS, L and N through the Bushing and Stud to secure the assembly. As long as there are NO Hose connections to the Cylinder ports and the shipping plugs have been removed, the Conveyor can be pulled-down.

Connect the Shaft Coupler to the Orbital Motor Shaft with the 1/4 x 1 Woodruff Key and tighten the 5/16 x 5/16 SHSS. Properly position (with port facing “up”) and install the Orbital Motor and Shaft Coupler to the Upper Half Conveyor Shaft and secure the Motor to the Motor Mount Bracket with (4 each) 3/8 x 1 CS and L. Then, secure the Shaft Coupler to the Conveyor Shaft with the other 5/16 x 5/16 SHSS. Looking opposite the Shaft end of the Orbital Motor, install a Tee Fitting into the right Motor port, the Check Valve into the left Motor port and the other Tee Fitting into the Check Valve. osition the Fittings so that the Tee connections are parallel to the Motor Shaft.

With the Conveyor in the completely lowered position, properly position and place the Conveyor Apron onto the Conveyor. Slide the Apron down the Conveyor and route it around the Sprocket on the Lower Half Conveyor Shaft.

Then, pass two pieces of wire between the Conveyor Slide and the bottom of the Conveyor and, working through the Cleanout Door opening, attach a wire to each Conveyor Chain. With equal pressure, draw both ends of the Apron Chain to the top end of the Upper Half Conveyor so that the two ends of each Apron Chain can be coupled together. After the ends of the Apron have been properly coupled together, refer to the Adjustments chapter for Apron Chain tension adjustment details. As necessary, remove the appropriate number of Links from each side of the Chain to facilitate adjustment.

Install a 90° Elbow Fitting into each Cylinder port and position the Fittings so that the Elbows face each other. Then, attach one short Hose between the rod end Elbow on the Cylinder and leg of the Tee into the Check Valve which is facing away from the Conveyor. Similarly, attach the other short Hose between the anchor end Elbow on the Cylinder and the leg of the other Tee in the Orbital Motor which is facing away from the Conveyor.

12.

Route the Hydraulic Hoses as follows: a.

For setting-up a unit for a standard hydraulics hookup, pass one end of each of the hydraulic Hoses through the Access Hole in the top of the Front Bearing Stand and route the ends of the Hoses along the same path as the Door Cylinder Hoses.

b.

For setting-up a unit for operation in conjunction with a Single Valve Conversion package, route each of the Hoses coming from the 3-Position Valve with Detent (on left side), through the Access Hole in the front base of the Mixer Feeder Tank and along the same path as the Door Cylinder Hoses.

13.

Once through the Access Hole in the left Frame member, route the Hoses along the side of the Discharge Conveyor and connect one Hose to the open leg of each Tee Fitting on the Orbital Motor.

For a standard hydraulics hookup, install quickdisconnect couplers (purchased locally) to the tractor connection ends of the Hoses. After the connections have been made to the Tee Fittings, anchor both Hoses to the side of the Upper Half Conveyor with the two Tube Clips and attach both Clips with a 1/4 x 1-1/4 CS, (2) P, L and N. Make sure all hardware and Fitting connections are tight before test-running the unit.

14.

Raise the Conveyor all the way up and install the Cleanout Door in the direction shown in Fig. 31.

The Weigh Scale Indicator is shipped separate of the Mixer Feeder and MUST be installed in a convenient location on the unit. Typically, the Indicator is installed using an Extended-view Indicator Mounting package.

This package enables mounting the Indicator out from the front of the Mixer Feeder so that it can be conveniently pivoted for viewing from the front or side of the Mixer Feeder. BE SURE to select the appropriate position for attaching the Indicator Support to avoid covering up the Danger Decal, 091442. Locate the Support in the middle of the Tank (or slightly to the left of center) and just above the ledge, as shown. Refer to the exploded-view drawing and associated parts list and assemble the components as shown. Use the Indicator Support as a template for marking and drilling the four (4) 13/32″ diameter mounting holes in the front of the Tank. Mount the Indicator Support to the Tank with (4 each) 3/8 x 3/4 CS, L and N. Attach the Indicator Bracket to the Indicator Support with the 1/2 x 3 CS, 3 P, Compression Spring and NILN, as shown in Fig. 33.

Then, attach the Indicator Mounting Bracket to the Indicator Bracket with (4 each) 1/4 x 1/2 CS, N and L.

The Accessory Battery Mount is designed to enable operating the Trailer-type or Truck-mounted Mixer Feeder Weigh Scale system with a 12 volt D.C. wet cell battery independently of the tractor or truck electrical system. The Battery Mount consists of the Mount Case, a Case Cover and attaching hardware. A photograph of a typical installation is provided. The four 13/32″ diameter holes, for attaching the Mount Case, will have to be drilled through the front of the Mixer Feeder, using the Case as a template. The 12 volt battery is to be purchased locally.

Route the Power Cord through the side of the Battery Case and attach the black and white Power Leads of the Tractor Plug (shown in Figs. 34, 35 & 36) to the Battery, using the appropriate Terminal connectors.

Explosive gas is produced while a Battery is in use or being charged. Keep flames or sparks away from the Battery area. Make sure Battery is charged in a well-ventilated area.

NEVER lay a metal object on top of a Battery as a short circuit can result.

Battery acid is harmful on contact with skin or fabrics.

If acid spills, follow these first aid tips: 1.

Immediately remove any clothing on which acid spills.

2.

If acid contacts the skin, rinse the affected area with running water for 10 to 15 minutes.

3.

If acid comes in contact with the eyes, flood the eyes with running water for 10 to 15 minutes. See a doctor at once. NEVER use any medication or eye drops unless prescribed by the doctor.

4.

To neutralize acid spilled on the floor, use one of the following mixtures: a.

1 pound (0.5 kg) of baking soda in 1 U.S. Gallon (4 liters) of water

b.

1 Pint (0.4 liters) of household ammonia in 1 U.S. Gallon (4 liters) of water 47

The Accessory Discharge Conveyor Magnet assembly can be installed on the end of either the One-piece or the Two-piece Discharge Conveyor. To install the Magnet assembly on either Conveyor, first remove the Belt Deflector, Deflector Strap and the attaching hardware.

Then, properly position and install the Magnet assembly with (4 each of the original) 1/4 x 3/4 CS, L and N, on the bottom flange.Then, using the Magnet as a template, locate and drill two (2) 13/32″ diameter holes for the top corners. Then secure the Magnet with a 3/8 x 1 CS, (2) P and LN, in each top corner.

Single Valve Conversion Package (Figs. 13-12 & 13-13) The Single Valve Conversion package is designed to be installed on a Trailer-type Mixer Feeder that will be operated by a tractor with only one remote hydraulics circuit. Proceed as follows:

NOTE: These instructions are developed in consideration of the Mixer Feeder being adapted with the Single Valve Conversion package before the One-piece or Two-piece Conveyor is installed.

Hose connections between the Door Cylinder and the Conveyor Lift Cylinder and/or Orbital Motor MUST be made to the Single Valve Conversion Valves before they are attached to their respective Cylinder(s) and Motor Fittings.

1.

Begin by selecting the desired mounting position in the middle of the flange on the front of the Mixer Feeder. Using the Valve Mount as a template, locate and drill (2) 13/32″ diameter mounting holes in the flange.

2.

Properly position and attach the Valve Mount to the flange with (2 each) 3/8 x 1 CS, L and N.

3.

Couple the output port of the Valve with 3-Position Detent to the input port of the Valve (without Detent) with the 1/2″ Close Nipple. Screw the Valves together onto the Close Nipple until both Valves are facing the same direction.

4.

Using (3 each) 3/8 x 1-3/4 CS, P, L and N, secure both Valves to the Valve Mount in the position and direction shown.

Install a 90° Elbow Fitting into the input port of the Valve with 3-Position Detent and into the output port of the Valve (without Detent). position the Fittings so that the Elbows face away from the Valve Mount.

Properly position and loosely attach the Brace to the hole in the Valve Mount Pipe with a 3/8 x 2 CS, L and N. Then, level the Valve Mount and align the other end of the Brace to mark the hole location in the front of the Mixer Feeder for securing the Brace. With the hole marked, drill a 13/32″ diameter hole through the front of the Mixer Feeder and secure the Brace with a 3/8 x 1 CS, L and N. Properly position and install the Hanger over the end of the Valve Mount Pipe and temporarily secure it with the CS. Pass a Console Handle through each hole in the Hanger and slide a Valve Handle into each Console Handle. Link a Valve Handle to each Valve Lever Knob by installing a 1/8 x 1 Cotter Pin through the hole in each Valve Handle.

With both Valves in their “neutral” positions, tighten the Lock Screws on each Console Handle.

Install the long Hose onto each Elbow Fitting.

Pass the Hoses through the Access Hole in the top of the Front Bearing Stand. Install quick-disconnect couplers (purchased locally) to the tractor connection ends of the long Hoses.

9.

Temporarily detach the Hose Clips that anchor the existing Hoses routed to the Relief Valve on the Door Cylinder and disconnect these Hoses from the Relief Valve so that the ends of the Hoses will pivot freely. Take the Hoses for the Door Cylinder out of the Access Hole in the Front Bearing Stand and connect the ends of the Hoses to the two ports of the Valve (without Detent) on the right side. After the connections are made to the Valve, the Relief Valve connections can be restored and the Hose Clips can be re-anchored.

10.

In a similar manner, make the Hose connections to the 3-Position Valve with Detent, on the left side, and route these Hoses per details given under the One-piece or Two-piece Discharge Conveyor topics.

11.

Because the Single Valve Conversion assembly and interconnection Hoses cover-up the factory installed DANGER Decal 091442 and WARNING Decal 093653, each Decal is provided in the Kit of parts and should be attached to the front of the Mixer Feeder in the position indicated. Refer to Chapter 16, Decal Locations, for new Decal application information.

Pump & Drive Chain (Fig. 43)

Loosen the two Lock Collars on the lower Input Shaft of the Chaincase.

4.

Slide the lower Input Shaft backwards until it is approximately half way out of the Chaincase. BE CAREFUL so as NOT to damage the Oil Seals .

5.

Place Sprocket and Key onto lower Input Shaft.

6.

Carefully slide the lower Input Shaft back into its original position.

7.

Tighten the two Lock Collars on the lower Input Shaft.

8.

Install the Fittings into Hydraulic Pump. The 1-5/16 to 3/4 Fitting goes into the Inlet Port of the Pump, while the 1-5/16 to 1/2 Fitting goes into the Outlet Port. The 3/4 Elbow then goes into the 3/4 Fitting. When installed, the Elbow should face away from the Shaft of the Pump and will be turned to its final position later.

9.

Apply silicon (or other sealing compound) on the face of the Pump and install it from the front side of the Chaincase into the hole, where the Gear Pump Cover Plate was installed, so that Pump Shaft extends into Chaincase. The Elbow Fitting should be facing up. Use the 1/2 x 1-3/4 CS, L and N, to attach the Pump.

10.

Install the Sprocket and Key onto the Shaft of the Pump.

11.

Put the Chain over the Sprocket on the Input Shaft and the Sprocket on the Pump.

12.

Install the Idler Sprocket onto the Idler Guide using the 5/8 x 2-1/4 Cap Screw, Nut and Shim Washers, as required.

13.

Align the Sprocket on the Pump with the Sprocket on the Input Shaft and tighten the Set Screws in the Sprockets.

14.

Tighten the Roller Chain.

Install the Oil Filter Head assembly onto the side of the Oil Reservoir. Install the Elbow into the other side of the Filter Head assembly.

Mount the Oil Reservoir onto the left rear side of the box by drilling 3/8 holes in the box. The top of the Oil Reservoir should be even with the bend line in the Side Sheet. Use 3/8 x 1 Cap Screws, L & N to attach the Reservoir.

Attach the 3/4 x 60” Hydraulic Hose to the bottom of the Oil Reservoir. Attach the other end of this Hose to the Elbow on top of the Hydraulic Pump on the Chaincase. Route the Hose through the hole in the End Panel.

Attach the 1/2 x 276” Hydraulic Hose to the bottom port on the Hydraulic Pump. Route the other end of this Hose along the frame rail of the Mixer Feeder up to the area where the control components will be installed per the following information.

Then, level the Valve Mount and align the other end of the Brace to mark the hole location in the front of the Mixer Feeder for securing the Brace. With the hole marked, drill a 13/32″ diameter hole through the front of the Mixer Feeder and secure the Brace with a 3/8 x 1 CS, L and N.

26.

Properly position and install the Hanger over the end of the Valve Mount Pipe and temporarily secure it with the CS. Pass a Console Handle through each hole in the Hanger and slide a Valve Handle into each Console Handle. Link a Valve Handle to each Valve Lever Knob by installing a 1/8 x 1 Cotter Pin through the hole in each Valve Handle.

With both Valves in their “neutral” positions, tighten the Lock Screws on each Console Handle.

27.

Temporarily detach the Hose Clips that anchor the existing Hoses routed to the Relief Valve on the Door Cylinder and disconnect these Hoses from the Relief Valve so that the ends of the Hoses will pivot freely. Take the Hoses for the Door Cylinder out of the Access Hole in the Front Bearing Stand and connect the ends of the Hoses to the two ports of the Valve (without Detent) on the right side. After the connections are made to the Valve, the Relief Valve connections can be restored and the Hose Clips can be re-anchored.

In a similar manner, make the Hose connections to the 3-Position Valve with Detent, on the left side, and route these Hoses per details given under the One-piece or Two-piece Discharge Conveyor topics.

The Hydraulic Hose which comes from the Hydraulic Pump in the Chaincase is connected to the Input Port of the Valve with 3-Position Detent.

The Hydraulic Hose which comes from the Oil Filter on the Oil Reservoir is connected to the Output Port of the Valve without 3-Position Detent.

Replace and retention the Upper Auger Drive Chains and replace and resecure the large Rear Shield.

1000 RPM Conversion Kits (Fig. 45) This Instruction provides illustrated details for installation of the 1000 RPM PTO Conversion Kits 092694 and 092780 onto any MF7000 Series trailer-type Mixer Feeder (except the MF7210 model). Installation involves replacement of the (2 each) original 21T and 27T Sprockets with respective 30T and 21T Sprockets, adding Offset Links to both Drive Chains, replacing the original Chaincase Input Drive Shear Bolt, and, replacing the Telescoping PTO Drive assembly.

NOTE:

Observe the Chain routing around the various Sprockets so that the original routing can be restored after the appropriate Sprockets are changed.

4.

Move each of the Planetary Gearbox Drive Shafts rearward so that the original 21T Sprocket can be slid off the Shaft and replaced with a 30T Sprocket. Then, reposition each Shaft so that it properly engages its Planetary Gearbox.

5.

Move the Input Shaft rearward so that the two original 27T Sprockets can be slid off the Shaft and replaced with the two 21T Sprockets. Then, reposition the Input Shaft so that it properly engages the Coupler.

WARNING BEFORE proceeding, exercise the following MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE: 1. Disengage the tractor PTO. 2. Shut off the tractor engine, remove the starter key and take it with you.

3. Wait for all movement to stop.

4. Remove the Telescoping PTO Drive and ALL power connections from the tractor.

Proceed as follows: 1. Place an oil catch pan under the Chaincase, remove the Drain Plug and drain the oil out of the Chaincase.

2. Loosen (but do NOT remove) the (4 each) Cap Screws that secure the four Bearing Housings.

Loosen and remove all Bearing Lock Collars.

3. Loosen (but do NOT remove) the Cap Screw that secures each Chain Idler and move each Idler to loosen Chain tension. Locate and detach the Chain Couplers, split both Chains and remove them.

a.

For 7285 or 7335 units with Slide Lock Coupler, replace Grade 8 Shearbolt with the Grade 5 Shear Bolt furnished in the Kit.

b.

For 7435 or 7500 units, secure the Star Coupler to the Input Shaft with the original Bolt.

6.

After all of the new Sprockets have been installed, retighten the attaching hardware on all four Bearing Housings. Then, replace and retighten the Lock Collars.

7.

Reinstall and re-couple the two Drive Chains by adding the Offset Links to obtain the necessary additional lengths required. Then, restore proper Drive Chain tension by adjusting the Idler positions and tightly secure the Idler attaching hardware.

8.

Loosen the Set Screw and remove the Cap Screw to detach the 540 RPM Telescoping PTO Drive Shaft from the Line Shaft. Properly orient and install the 1000 RPM Telescoping PTO Drive Shaft furnished with the Kit.

CHAPTER 15 OPTIONAL FEATURES & ACCESSORIESS Most of the optional features & accessories, listed in this chapter, are covered by information listed in the Set-up & Assembly chapter. Some accessories are shipped with separate instructions to install. Refer to your Gehl “Farm Equipment Suggested List Prices” for stock numbers and ordering information.

SCALE POWER BATTERY BOX ACCESSORY An accessory Battery Box is available. Installation details are provided in the Set–up & Assembly chapter.

DISCHARGE CONVEYOR OPTIONS The Trailer-type or Truck-mounted Mixer Feeder Discharge Conveyor MUST be ordered separately and dealer installed.

One–Piece Conveyor Trailer-type and Truck-mounted Mixer Feeders can be equipped with a One–Piece, Two–Position (fixed 30° or 40°) Discharge Conveyor. Installation instructions are provided in the Set–up & Assembly chapter.

Two–Piece Conveyor Trailer-type and Truck-mounted Mixer Feeders can be equipped with a two–Piece, hydraulic raise–lower–type Discharge Conveyor. Installation instructions are provided in the Set–up & Assembly chapter.

DISCHARGE CONVEYOR MAGNET ACCESSORY An accessory Magnet Assembly can be obtained for field installation onto the end of either the One–Piece or the Two–Piece Discharge Conveyor assembly. Installation details are provided in the Set–up & Assembly chapter.

SAFETY CHAIN ACCESSORIES If the Mixer Feeder is going to be transported on a public highway, a Safety Chain package should be obtained and installed per details in the Transporting chapter.

Depending on the size Mixer Feeder, two different Safety Chain packages are available.

SCALES & ACCESSORIES All Mixer Feeders are provided with Weigh Scale Systems. Weighbars are factory installed and the customer can order any one of the three model Scale Indicators for field mounting per details in the Set-up & Assembly chapter information. Accessory Audible and Visual Alarms are also available.

SHEAR BOLT SERVICE ACCESSORIES Shear Bolts are used on specific parts of the various model Mixer Feeders. Replacement Shear Bolts and Locknuts are available in packaged quantities of (8) Bolts and Locknuts per package. Part numbers for the various Shear Bolt packages are provided in the Operation chapter.

SELF-CONTAINED HYDRAULICS ACCESSORY An accessory Self-contained Hydraulics package is available for installation onto a Trailer-type Mixer Feeder (except MF7210) which is going to be operated by a tractor with NO (or otherwise an inadequate) remote hydraulic output. Installation details are provided in the Set–up & Assembly chapter.

SINGLE VALVE CONVERSION ACCESSORY An accessory Single Valve Conversion package is available for installation onto a Trailer-type Mixer Feeder which is going to be operated by a tractor with only one remote hydraulics output. Installation details are provided in the Set–up & Assembly chapter.

1000 RPM CONVERSION ACCESSORY An accessory 1000 RPM Conversion Kit is available for installation onto a Trailer-type Mixer Feeder (except MF7210) which is going to be operated by a tractor with a 1000 RPM PTO. Installation details are provided in the Set–up & Assembly chapter.

WHEEL & TIRE OPTIONS As desired or required, some model Mixer Feeders are available with different selectable Wheel and Tire options.

CHAPTER 16 DECAL LOCATIONS GENERAL INFORMATION Decal Location information is provided to assist in the proper selection and application of new decals, in the event the original decal(s) become(s) damaged or the machine is repainted. Refer to the listing for the illustration reference number, part number, description and quantity of each decal provided in the Kit. Refer to the appropriate illustration(s) for replacement location(s).

NOTE:

Refer to the SAFETY Chapter of the Operator’s Manual for the specific information provided on all of the various Safety Decals furnished in the Decal Kit(s).

To ensure proper selection for correct replacement decal(s), compare all of the various close-up location photographs to your machine BEFORE starting to refinish the unit. Then, circle each pictured decal (applicable to your machine) while checking-off its part number in the listing. After you have verified all the decals needed for replacement, set aside unneeded decals for disposal.

NEW DECAL APPLICATION Surfaces MUST be free from dirt, dust, grease and other foreign material before applying the new decal. To apply a solid-formed decal, remove the smaller portion of the decal backing paper and apply this part of the exposed adhesive backing to the clean surface while maintaining proper position and alignment. Slowly peel off the other portion of the backing paper while applying hand pressure to smooth-out the decal surface.

CAUTION ALWAYS observe Safety Rules shown on Decals. If Decals become damaged, or if the unit is repainted, replace the Decals. If repainting, BE SURE that ALL Decals from the Kit(s) which apply to your machine, are affixed to your unit.

The Decal Set Number for the MF7210 is 113349, for the MF7285 is 113350, for the MF7335 is 113351, for 58

the MF7435 is 113352 and. for the MF7500 is 113353.
