Council OKs Traffic Study

Whither goes the traffic in Danville? How many vehicles are reaching their destination and how many are passing through? The answer may be forthcoming with the approval for an origin-destination traffic study by the Danville Town Council at the December 1, 2021 meeting. The proposal was brought by Will Lacey, Assistant Town Manager and member of the Traffic Committee and be undertaken by Traffic Engineering, Inc. The study would cost $8,850 and would be used to determine the ultimate destination of traffic entering Danville from each direction. The study would answer questions such as the percentage of traffic entering Danville from the east is through traffic whose destination is west (or north or south) of the town. The information would be used in rating the effectiveness of roadway improvements and the corresponding level of relief to downtown traffic. Banning Engineering would provide limited professional services during the study for an additional $3,750. Lacy reminded the Council that D.R. Horton had agreed to furnish up to $50,000 part of the agreement for the development of the Miles farm at the west edge of town. The study is expected to take 3-4 weeks.
