Tri Kappa Flowers at Huntington Bank When the Circus Came to Town
The Danville Tri Kappa sorority will be having the annual Flower Sale this Saturday, May 8th. Thanks to the generosity of Huntington Bank, we will be in their parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until sold out. The beautiful hanging baskets, planters, and small pots of individual flowers are
ready to make your space colorful for the summer season. These make great gifts for all the special women in your life for Mother’s Day. Profits from these plants go towards community grants and high school scholarships for Danville seniors. Come pick up a plant and support the community at the same time.
Artist At Work and At Rest
Looking for some whimsy? Local artist Joanie Kisner has new series of artwork that bring out the feelings of wonder and excitement “When the Circus Came to Town.” “Inspiration came from photos I have taken of Hendricks County barns, finding circus posters with Danville on them, and adding animals to the fun,” she explained. The result is a world where zebras amble across the barnyard and balloons float above a family of giraffes next to a barn pasted with circus posters. There are five images in the series. You can see them (and buy them) at the Gallery on the Square, 51 S. Washington, Danville. Sizes range from 16x20 in. canvas to 5x7 in. greeting cards. There are five different scenes. Perfect for Mothers Day or to add a bit of fun to your home or office.
A Mother’s Request
When he was a lad in Kentucky and that’s a bit ago, Uncle John Kirkham went with his mother to the county seat. On a public corner they saw a colored woman, a slave, being whipped. Her cries could be heard from blocks away. Uncle John’s mother took him by the hand and led him out of sight and hearing. And then she said: “John, when you get to be a man I want you to vote against this awful thing of human slavery.” And John promised and he made his promise good by voting and fighting. It’s News To Us
There’s little rest for the artistic. Julie Vornholt spend a rainy Tuesday working on a mural for a new hair salon on North Indiana St. in Danville. Julie is the daughter of Jerry and Ginnie Vornholt of Danville and a 2011 graduate of Danville Community High School. She now lives in Madison,Wisconsin, with her hubby and two pupsters. She creates freehand murals, paintings and wearables. While working on the mural, Julie had some help from her Mom and encouragement from her Dad. We’ll have the finished mural in next week’s issue.
